As a guitar player, I feel like it’s because it takes much more time and dedication to get your chops up to be considered a good drummer, vs a good guitar player.

Alexis actually created drum beats and patterns that enhanced the guitar riffs and gave feeling to each separate section of the song. It wasn't all crazy fills through out but it's not supposed to be. Alexis had a better structure and actually sounded like a song not just someone playing drums over someone else's track. Not saying Vito was bad but I'd rather listen to Alexis play or have him play drums on any song I was writing.

I agree 100% but to be fair Vito's playing really did command a lot more attention. The point Chris Adler made about never repeating but still locked in with the heartbeat of the song was a big one. I'd definitely rather have Alexis jam on a track I made, but I think what Vito pulled off was a better showcase of pure skill.

Yeah, I was the same. Alexis showed off a lot of stuff, but to me, he still made it feel like a song. He still matched the style of the backing track and still made it feel cohesive.

Yup. I think Alexis serviced the song - which is an incredible (RARE) skill to have as a drummer - but it was still a "play-off" between two drummers, and that's probably why the judges went with Vito's evolving showcase.

I much preferred Alexis I thought his groove and his interpretation of the track was much more entertaining to my ear. That said i'm not a musician and there is something I may have on the technical side but as a life long metal fan I enjoyed Alexis more

Yeah i agree.. vito overdid the kick drum in my opinion. Dont get me wrong i love the kick drum but vito lacked the flavor you had. Silence is a voice. Without silence the other voices arent as powerful. Each voice (cymbols, toms and such) was placed extremely well. Sadly im disagreeing with adler, i LOOOVE lamb of god, but i think alexis shoildve won!!!

Alexis killed it! He let the guitarist shine at the right moments and his groove was so on point. Alexis wrote a drum track while Vito just showed all his chops without really gel’ing with the song.

As a drummer I wanted to hate everything about alexis: the gimmicky mask, the "look at me" cymbal setup, and the overcompensator's kit... BUT he killed that shit. Vito hit every beat flawlessly whereas alexis did the same and accentuated the track. You can hear his personality in his playing. Wrong choice

Being a musician and more importantly a drummer, I liked Vito for sure, he's good. I would have picked Alexis though I just thought he had more groove, technicality and pricision.

I'm also a drummer and I thought Vito's playing was sloppy and rushed, he squeezed about 5 minutes of playing into 3 minutes, he drowned out every ounce of the guitar track. nd the outcome suffered as a result (IMO) Alexis' composition and playing were measured, thoughtful and matched DK's playing 100%.

its kind of hard, the track i would listen to if it were a song would probably be alexis'. but at the same time this is a drumming competition, somehow i guess the showoffery is an integral part. and at the same time its not like vitos part was unbearable, i personally still found it quite awesome.

You have to remember the song has different elements to it. Vito adapted to it and treated every element of metal like its own. Alexis played it like one song.

@@tcarpenterc That's true but honestly their was a djent sounding section to that guitar track that I didn't even realize was their until Alexis played. So even if Vito adapted to every part of the song I don't think his drumming actually benefited the groove of the guitar riffs where Alexis left space and actually made a more powerful piece of music. It almost sounded like Vito was competing against the track whereas Alexis actually created a better song. I get its a drum competition but this specific challenge is supposed to be set to the guitar track so it shouldn't just be about crazy technical playing and showing off.

I'm totally on board with Vito moving on. His set was amazing, so many details and accents and always in justice of the song. Alexis is a beast as well and a bit more unique for sure, but I was blown away by Vito. Great job man!

Vito the 1st min I was saying this fucker might win whole thing The breakdown Alexis did was good I just think Vito hit and was on time with the track he just added way more all did but with Vito he added more ...and then more unpredictable and Adler said best was never repetitive but in every beat and fill accents etc he still maintained the heart of the guitar track

Alexis gave more air to the music so i could feel and hear the whole track while Vito was playing like a playthrough over recorded music, too loud. That would have given the win to Alexis if not for the content and execution. Vito just played a better set. I wanted Alexis to the final but i felt that in this round he couldn't step up the game.

I couldn't agree more with your analysis, Alexis played like part of a band while Vito channeled Gene Friggin' Hoaglan and just dominated the music. Alexis had my favorite first-round solo and was much more enjoyable to watch, but even before he was done I knew it was going to Vito.

It sounded like he took the Joey Jordison approach of "overplay the fuck out of everything" and it worked pretty well. But Alexis definately played more for the song

Tough call. Alexis still my favorite. He could do more bass drumming (16ths) on the ''doom'' parts. It's all about shredding. He ''played for the song''. Great drummer, full of textures and colors.

Tough one to call. I thought Vito did too much in some parts and Alexis didn’t do enough In Some parts. Vito made the faster death and black parts cook and sound like a bombast of war metal but he also got a little fill heavy for me In the open parts. Alexis was more tasteful in the open parts but it didn’t have enough drive for me in the fast parts

I completely disagree. I would have voted for Alexis. I think his was more tasteful and not like a drum solo set to a riff. He had groove and power. I played drums for 15 years prior to giving it up. My style would have been more like Alexis and I guess that's why I liked his better. Congrats to Vito, however.

I think Vito's was more impressive, but Alexis' was more of a complete song. It just fit so well - and I agree with "tasteful." But like maap said, if you're evaluating "Shredders of Metal" and you're looking for something to blow you away, I can't fault them for going with Vito.

First episode that I'm going to have to strongly disagree with the judges on. I think Alexis gave much more room for the guitar to breathe and just had grooves that seemed to fit better, not to mention him putting way more enthusiasm into his performance. I'm shocked but I also must respect the judges, I am a nobody in the world of metal after all.

They wear both so amazing. I would have voted for Alexis because I felt like he unified all those crazy riffs and made it into a killer song. You could have just added vocals to it, done. Vito's was more technical. Somehow it felt like each riff was a little drum solo. Still it was crazy sick playing and the popping sticks had me on the edge of my couch.

Mannnn Alexis really did get robbed, Vito to me felt like a long fill, Alexis made the song alive and full! I guess in the competition it doesn't matter, but if I don't groove, I don't dig it personally.

Alexis did 2 things. Made the guitarist stand out where need be and made his own playing stand out by not overplaying. This guy knows balance and im sad he didnt win. Vito is great too.

I call BS BangerTV! I respect their opinions but I was really excited to see more of Alexis. Vito is also very cool, but Alexis came off as more natural and organic without losing any technicality.

I'm a bass player and I totally disagree with the judges,Vito's awesome but I think he didn't allow the parts to breathe and I felt he did too much were Alexis had better groove and yes he coulda did a little bit more on some parts,but that's were a bass player can shine,lol

Vito plays like in a circus 🎪 band drum solo from the 80s, very standard play through, while Alexis played it more creatively, Alexis should've won.

I agree. It's like he done everything just to do everything, except for make it feel like a song like Alexis did. I enjoyed Vito's performance, but Alexis felt much more solid and like an actual song while still adapting to the changes of the backing track.

How the hell do you pick between these two?!?! Seriously, these guys got the chops! Alexis' performance was consistent throughout the whole 3 minutes - he made that song his own. Vito, on the other hand, played each section of the track as a separate entity to perfection. I wouldn't be disappointed if the judges went with Alexis, nor am I disappointed that they chose Vito. These guys are just so much fun to watch, listen to, and most importantly, headbang to!

Both Alexis and Vito are fucking phenomenal! I felt like the decision was tough because they both did well, but both took a different approach. Vito was more of drum clinic, highlighting everything he could do. Yes it was busy, but by design to show as much ability as possible. Alexis' stuff was more suited to the parts as if he was going for how it would actually sound on a track, left more openness when it called for it. I think the perfect performance would be an amalgamation of both their performances. Either one should never have an issue being in a band. Great work. Love this season of Shredders of Metal!

As much as I was rooting for Alexis, I won't lie that Vito made a more fitting set for the track they where given. If anything, I couldn't find much if any of that Latin influence he brought in the first round and in fairness the track given might not have worked for it either, so he might have been handicaped there. Vito's just felt more like it belonged as the background of the song and elevated it, Alexis's felt like it fit but in a more standard way, which sucks cause I'm a sucker for Symbol use from drums and I love how he uses his. So many good musicians damn it.

Been on lead vox for 20 years and I love and appreciate my skill. However, I've always been infatuated with drummers. THEY are the true stars of every band, especially Metal. That's why we, as a band, decided to have our drummer up front on stage! They deserve it, despite tradition. Vito, you fucking killed it brother! 🤘

Aw.. I loved alexis' playing. I was rooting for him. Vito really did do a phenomenal job. I get why he moved on but for me the stick thing was something he should have known to avoid after doing it the previous round and was a negative because of that.
