#1 Paul Rodriguez has been known for his partnerships with AT&T, Mountain Dew, Target and more. Most recently, we caught him doing a sponsored post for Uber Eats and the world renown Mcdonalds Mcrib.
#2 Ryan Sheckler gained celebrity status for his show Life of Ryan, and his eternal pursuit of a chill girl. Then, he helped out Axe Body spray in their famous double pits to chesty campaign.
#3 Leticia Bufoni has a random bag of sponsors to say the least. Beats by Dre, maybe even Tech Deck, Oi Mobile, PetroBraz, Red Bull, Toyota, GoPro, and more.
#4 Power Balance bracelets. Not a person we know, but a brand that amassed a pretty crazy team before being sued to death. Kelly Hart, Brandon Beibel, and even Shaquille Oneill and Lindsey Lohan repped the brand, before it was found that the BRACELETS DID NOTHING...
#5 Greg Lutzka where do we even start? Fedoras. Harley Davidson, Saddlemen Seats, Tender Belly bacon. We've said enough. Let those 270 lip slides speak for themselves!
#4 Cheese head man, the world renown Andy Macdonald. Known for riding for brands like red vines and Sobe back in the day, Andy's now moved on to Amazon, among others.
#3 Shawn White. Scooters and walmart-quality skateboards? Let's see someone try to get a 900 on one of those.
#2 Nyjah Huston, we're grateful you got a good chest piece to cover up that nip-slip tattoo of your mom. Besides riding for brands like Monster Energy and even a cracker company called Lance Bolds, he's telling young risk takers to jump aboard with America's Navy.
#1 Tony Hawk, who else could we end this great list with?? Bagel Bites, Kohls, Jeep, Mcdonalds, Doritos, Sony, and many more.

As someone who's been skating for 35 years I'm not sure I agree with the term "selling out". Skaters have fought for years to have skateboarding considered a "real" sport. To be considered an athlete instead of just some punk on a board. Even at 46 years old I get looked down upon when I bomb by, not that I care, but my kids see it and that I do care about. No one cares if a basketball, baseball or hockey player is pushing some car company, why should it be any different for someone riding a board ? Skateboarding is one of the most technical and dangerous sports to ever exist. When skating at such a high level, why shouldn't people be paid for their years of sweat and dedication? I know so many talented people who had to give up on something they loved because financially it just wasn't feasible. Everyone starts to ride for the love, but love don't pay the bills. If your motive for skating is to get paid, and your good enough to do it, then by all means get paid. It takes a certain type of person to throw themselves down a flight of stairs over and over, regardless of why you're doing it. Who cares why you skate, you still skate.

At this point, both Leticia and Paul are no longer skaters. They're NASCAR drivers. You can actually picture them in those racing suits and car, all decked out in sponsor logos. But, as for Leticia, as a fellow 3rd world country latino skater, I am very proud of her. I would actually sell my soul to have Toyota and a Petrol company as sponsors, without being a racer. That's quite the achievement, when you think of it. Also, isn't it funny how both Paul and Leticia are not only latinos, but also Plan B alumni?

Can you explain how tony hawk was a sell out. Sure he took those corporate sponsors but he also said a requirement for these companies to sponsor him was donating to the tony hawk foundation... you know the foundation that contributed to 100s of skateparks being built. Is it really selling out if skateboarding profited tremendously from those unconventional sponsorships?

The entire job of a pro skater is to be a salesman/woman.... They are hired to push brands... Skate teams exist to sell the products the company they ride for sell. Most don't think of it like that, but it's the truth. But to a certain degree everything in the job world is about pushing a product, no matter what job you have... I think if you can make a living doing something as great as skating, more power to you, as long as you don't compromise yourself in pushing stuff you think is bad. (I guess)

I have a funny story about greg lutzka. In 2007 at the Portland Dew Tour he got drunk and cocky, he started challenging everyone to a game of skate. I took him up on the game of skate not knowing who he was (I’m a bmx rider), I saw he was hammered so I thought I had a chance. I told him he had to skate switch because I was a bmx rider and he agreed to do so. After I received S-K, I heard someone mention who he was and I felt stupid for it realizing it, admitted I didn’t realize who he was and finished the game with out getting him any letters. I was determined to give him a letter so we continued adding letting until I had “SKATERS” while he still had no letters. He was fun to skate with, a bit of a shit talker and he bragged about his win but it was all in good fun. A little while later he wanted to go back to his hotel so we grabbed a cab and let him ride along with us. We stopped at a McDonald’s at his request, he ordered $27 worth of food and then informed me he didn’t have his wallet so I payed for his meal and his ride home.

Man, I support skaters getting sponsors, but I respect skaters laughing at sponsors. Take the dough if you can take your fans pointing and laughing, that's always been skate culture and it's why I'm still with it. never for the dosh, that's just an added bonus if you're all that good - but get sponsored by companies that care about skate, or about literally anything other than money. Then you won't get laughed at.

20 years ago I would have agreed 100% with calling out everyone on this list, but at this point I've had enough of my friends age out of the industry and be left with nothing that I say get that bag while you can. Use that money, and start a company and try to set yourself up for the next chapter

I remember when PRod left ES and then joined Nike SB and how disappointing it was to see that change starting to occur in Skateboarding culture and now it's become the norm. Letícia is sponsored by PetroBras because it's part of their corporate responsibility initiative to help athletes and the majority is owned by the Brazilian government. Out of the list I liked how you mentioned Tony Hawk and thanks to him he's been able to use some of the money he makes to invest in skateparks throughout the U.S. One honorable mention who didn't make the list is Bob Burquist. If you do a little digging around you'll find out that he ended up getting kicked off Anti-Hero because he was becoming too corporate.

@@ShredzShop, a bit of clarification as I needed to do a little more digging. Essentially the Brazilian government has a law that translates to the Sports Incentive law that allows companies to invest into sports as a tax write off.

Growing up seeing skaters on tv commercials, they'd always be playing a character of some kind. Tony on the other hand always included skateboarding in nearly every commercial that aired in American tv; I can respect that.

P-Rod doesn’t count because his dad is a Hollywood celebrity. If he didn’t skate he’d likely still would be famous for something and doing those commercials anyway.

Wasn't that the one with the DC them? I hated when the corporate shift and the limelight was blasted on skateboarding. It happened right after Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 really took off and corporate brands discovered skateboarding as "marketable" Before that, skateboarding was our little inside thing.

On an unrelated note; if you wanted to part ways with a certain CCS form 99 with JAMIE THOMAS doing a frontside feeble on the cover I'd be happy to take it off your hands. It was the first one I ever got, the one where I got my first board and discovered skateboarding.
