Learn something new about Industry icon Powell Peralta!
It all begin with George in his garage, making homemade skateboards for his son in the 70's. George, an aeronautics engineer, had a knack for innovation, and loved tinkering with new ideas for making everyday things better. It wasn't long before he connected with Stacy Peralta, a pro skateboarder who had a special talent for marketing. The match was made in heaven, and the brand began growing in popularity, recruiting a team of underdogs and misfits, who would become the infamous bones brigade; tony hawk, steve caballero, mike mcgill, lance mountain, rodney mullen, and tommy gurreuro. The team topped the competition podiums for years, and released a number of industry-leading skateboard films which have now become timeless icons of skateboarding culture.
However, great success can have a dark side, as Stacy and George began to argue about the future of the company; Stacy wanted to see the team disperse to start new small companies, whereas George saw this as foolish. Eventually parting ways and bringing the company temporarily to a close, Bones Brigade members parted ways to make many of the iconic brands of today: Lance started the firm, Tony started Birdhouse, Tommy started Real, and Rodney started world industries with Mike Vallely and Steve Rocco.
Today, Powell Peralta continues to be an industry leader, pioneering new technologies within skateboarding; particularly with the creation of the flight deck, and Bones Swiss Bearings. To learn more, head to shop.shredzshop.com/

You forgot about Frankie Hill. His part in Ban This changed street skating. Everyone was blowing out how big he was going on the street back in 89 it was revolutionary. Then his ollie down that gap in Propaganda again changed what could be done on a skateboard. 100% pioneer of going big on the streets

Watching these videos just brings me back .. I miss it so much .. me and my 46 year old self.. I went through so many boards .. I was usually a P&P loyalist .. BUT.. each board was their own art piece .. Rob Roscop was one of the best I had .. the arm coming through the target .. each year it would change a little more .. ripped skin off the arm .. cyborg arm.. I also loved Steve Stedham when he was with POWEL .. but got his board when he left .. the skeleton flying on the bomber plane with the Bomb in hand .. Christian Hosoi was one of my absolute fav boards and skaters .. my ultimate fav was the Steve Caballero.. UGH! So bad ass .. wasn’t a huge Hawk fan.. preferred Hosoi .. doing his Christ air with that bad ass board ! Also.. how many of u got a board from a family member that didn’t understand what was acceptable lol.. mine got me a NASH VIOLATOR .. nothing better on a kids self esteem being called “POSER” lol.. when they FINALLY GOT IT.. took me to the skate shop.. and we had them BUILD me a bad ass Caballero.. had the new RAT BONES put on .. loved those .. but I actually dug SLIME BALL WHEELS MORE .. they grabbed better .. I miss my Hosoi Hammerhead ..

My favorite brand when I started skating back in 1990, in fact, it was a Powell Peralta deck that got me into skating, I went to a buddy`s house after school and he had just got a Ray Barbee Rag Doll in Teal Green/Blue with Gull Wings and T-Bones on it, he gave me a go and I was hooked! I went home, pleaded with my parents for a board, they bought me a Variflex XPS Tony Hallam Street model for my birthday in May on the condition that if I stuck with it that they would upgrade me to a proper pro model that Christmas...by Christmas the XPS was worn down to a toothpick, they kept their promise and I got a Tony Hawk Medallion Mini (I was a short kid) with Tracker Agro`s and Rat Bones for Christmas, I tried out Santa Cruz after the Hawk but snapped it in less than 4 months so went back to Powell Peralta, owned so many over the years that i`ve lost track...

Sweet video.. I am a Norwegian who lived in Canada for a year. Skating and Snowboarding over there. I think you should think about doing a very detailed video on Mark Gonzales and also Mullen. The Gonz will forever be underrated in my view.. He is always fun to watch. I also think Frankie Hill is very important if we are going into street skating. It is worth remembering that street skaters voted him into the Powell team. On the powell team I think Hill and Valelly influenced me the most.

Those first 8 years were INSANE. I was what 11-19yo in the SFBA, watching Cab ride ramps, Gonz ride street - and completely wearing my BBrigade tapes out in the dark of night. Can't pick a favorite skater - even loved Rodney Mullen (freakshow). Magic years - hats off to everyone who was gutting that era out in vans, surfing couches across the world - and fueling that fire.

Do one on the early smaller independent companies like Schimit Stix, Skull, Skates, Santa Monica Airlines or Madrid. Or maybe when the decks started to be shaped different like Hosoi did w/Alva 1st, and later the Hammer Head (made by Skull?). Those indy brands and the difference in board shape changed the game in the early/mid 80s. Just a thought? Good video. I wanna cry when I think about all the shit my Mother boxed a did God knows what with? I had a different Sk8 shirt for every day of the MONTH and then some back then & lotta of equipment/ decks. Tony Hawk. I wish I had all the boards I've owned. My first skate was a general issue with trackers, it was 1980. I've had many so powell boards through the 80s growing up. I wish I still had them, I think I thought they would always be available. Then I lost interest in skating from 92 till 2002. I did buy a Tony Hawk later on on ebay. I still have it but the set up is all wrong. I wish it had trackers, it has ventures. Maybe they're worth something too, because they must have been first edition. Anyway, Thanks for the video.

FYI that pic at 1:58 is Mark Gonzales, not Alan Gelfand. Gonz ollied the gap at the '89 Hawaii NSA Finals. He never rode for Powell.

Fs ollie on the mini-ramp at the beginning of the video? That's the Gonz, not Alan Gelfand.
