Something different. It was raining, so I chose my top ten locations in Shrewsbury while I was up this way and cobbled a video together. Not my greatest work, but useful for travellers coming to Shropshire's county town.
What are your top ten sights where you live?

Thanks for this lovely video which brings back a lot of happy memories to me! I used to study at Shrewsbury Technical College from 1972 to 1975 before I went to university in Manchester. As a student, I worked in the weekends and summers at The Criterion (Berni Inns) in High Street. Shrewsbury is a very beautiful town with friendly people. I enjoyed visiting the Flower Show held at the Quarry every summer. I will surely travel from Hong Kong to revisit Shrewsbury in the future as my sister chose to settle down in Shrewsbury after she finished university. 😊

For me back in the 80's, Shrewsbury was simply the finest historic market town in England. They even filmed "A Christmas Carol" there back in 1984 because of its townscape. Visiting a few years ago, it seemed much the same in that respect, but I can't say I like some of the more recent developments and would be concerned that those in authority don't share in my appreciation that the preservation of its character should always take precedent over considerations of growth and future development opportunities. Fortunately though, still a great place to visit with much to see and many fine buildings.

While seeing these wonderful and sometime simply magnificent Castles, Churches, Railway stations built 400-500 years ago I can not stop asking myself: who and how have built them? Why there are nothing like that are being build now? We now, apparently, have got much advanced technology and machinery. But look how ugly and poor modern build looks comparing with old structures. Where are all those architects and builders now? Sometimes I really feel the humanity is not developing but degrading, to be honest. Thank you, Richard, for video.

Go watch the town one weekend and call them Shrowsbury town in the stands, you'll be the only one who does. Go to any of the housing estates in Shrewsbury (where actual Salopians live) and tell them it's Shrowsbury, you'll be corrected. Go out to the surrounding countryside and tell the local farmers it's Shrowsbury, they'll tell you that you're a rum mon but secretly think you're an ignorant sod. It's as bloody ridiculous as insisting Chester is actually pronounced Chister, or Telford is actually pronounced Talford. The way you incorrectly pronounce the town's name is nothing more than a way of trying to distinguish yourself as upper or upper middle class.
