I am from Bengal and I loved Chennai. If you try to blend in, everything works. Just don't behave like someone who is trying hard not to blend in. This is true about any city in the world, let alone Indian city.

As a person who lived in both North India and South India I can say that It will be difficult for a South Indian to stay in North India because of the Innocence of South Indian (My personal opinion). I have seen many North Indians having double standards and I have been scammed many many times. They will force you to speak in Hindi even though they can understand English and they make fun of your language (For sometime its fine but it sure gonna hit you in a personal way). They may take advantage of your politeness (not everyone). They act like they are superior to you. I have friends in North India too don't get me wrong but I got those friends only after I act like them. Whatever maybe the case we all are brothers and sisters and we all love our mother INDIA.

I'm currently working in Infosys in Mahindra World City. Having stayed in Chennai for almost a decade (since I did my engg. here), I can say that Chennai is livable for people who can deal with staying alone. I, for instance, am habituated with enjoying my own company and have no problems in Chennai. As a matter of fact , I love my time in Chennai. However, those that seek company and cannot stay alone and tend to feel lonely may have a really hard time dealing with South Indians (Tamilians). Many North Indians even face discrimination and are usually deliberately isolated by South Indians. I have seen many such examples. The only way is to try to mingle in with the others. This is something that I despise doing and I'd rather stay alone than try to get into a group where I feel I'm not welcomed in the first place. If a North Indian can deal with this, everything else in Chennai is fine. I love my spa sessions in Chennai and consider it my second home (after Kolkata). :)

I am from assam. Once i went chennai, most people understand the basic english words but problem arises some people specifically the street vendors don't even know the basic english words so i had to deal with body language to explain them what i was asking for. An experience i never had before. In many shops i didn't had any problem because in them many salesmans were the migrant workers from my state. When they overheard me speaking Assamese with my friends ,later on i was conversing with them in my mother tongue.

As you conclude, where ever we go we have to enjoy that place, i am from Coimbatore, when i worked in Bangalore i search for best Bangalore foods, in Hydrabad for their best biriyani and now in Saudi i am enjoying the best Grills, Shewarma, Arabic rice dishes etc, if i search for best Idly dosa in Saudi, i will be disappointed, i try to learn some basic Arabic and hang out with Arabic friends, i go with them and try to learn and appreciate the culture.... Any place you are going enjoy the native Festival, Culture, Launguage and foods.

I am Telugu ..... I worked in Chennai for almost 6 years without learning Tamil. I used only basic Tamil to speak maid and vegetable market. Auto guys also understand English well. The weather and food were not an issue for me. Because my place is the same. I worked in Mumbai (1 year) and Pune (2 years). I learned Hindi under pressure. Software talks in Hindi too. I went to Chennai because of this Hindi pressure. Tamil and the South are more collaborative. Mumbai and Pune mostly occupied by North and Hindi. Marathi only on electricity bill and Bus names. You know, Electricity bill and Bus names are in English (global language) in Chennai. No language pressure. "Worthy South- Nasty North"

Actually the biasness started only due to the Hindi push in south India, way back in 1967 during Lal Bahadur Shastri's period who wanted to push Hindi in Tamil Nad and there was Anti Hindi Agitation throughout Tamil Nad. For instance, I am from Tamil Nad and my hometown is Coimbatore however, I have spent major part of my life in Delhi (South Delhi) Greater Kailash. I did my schooling and college in Delhi and also started my service in Delhi. Even my father served in public sector companies and posted in Delhi for about 40 years. I find no difference whether I live in Delhi or Chennai. I know better Tamil than people living in Chennai, so do I can speak fluent Hindi. But my favouate language to communicate is one and only English.

But the worst thing, guys please, trust me on this, don't ever go to Tamil Nadu for study. Your life would turn into a nightmare... seriously, a nightmare.. Our college started at 9 am and closed at 5:30 pm. Is this what college is supposed to be like. You would never be able to do anything else than just to study. There would be no such thing as personal life, free time, personal devslopment, studying books outside the topics... because if you do these things, who's gonna do your homework, that you would have to show the next day. Even at holiday, we were asked to come for extra class, and that too was made compulsory.... I never understood, why the hack, then we had those holidays for???

I was in Karnataka Andhra Tamilnadu Telangana for 6 years(Not live in Kerala most..) I wanna say one thing Karnataka people are most welcoming people than other states..But food wise other south states are good.. 1--South Indian people are very well educated men and women both.. 2--Culture wise they follow traditions very seriously even you will find they do Rangoli in front of their houses everyday.. 3--Mostly south indians think we north indians are very loud ..And as North Indian I can say they are right .. Mostly South Indian are very simple (You can understand this only when you will visit south) 4-- You will not find DJ in their weddings and No dance during barat.. 😂😂 Weddings happens timewise not like in our weddings where Barat comes lately ...And another thing I like is first everyone takes photo with groom and bride then only they eat food... 5-- When girls get first period then they do some rituals and they give party... 6-- The one thing I don't like they do cousin marriage in hindu traditions also..But now a days this thing is decreasing but it exists only in some communities... 7-- The best city in South india is Bangalore..I bet you if you ever lived there for 1 year you don't wanna come back ever.. 8-- Apart from Karnataka other south states people expect from you to communicate with their own language ..Then only they feel comfortable and got mingle with you.. But in North we never except from anyone to learn our language.. All these are my opinions ...Yours can be different

Great video. Although except having visited some relatives in T-Nagar and Adayar, during my early boyhood days, I have no experience with Madras. We used to board a local train to go to Tambaram. We don't have much local train network in Hyderabad, so it was exillierating. BTW, Chennai is a wet city, those areas are extremely drenching in summer. Within half an hour of going out you get drenched in your own sweat, because the humidityin the air won't absorb your sweat. That's good for health. It keeps you cool. In Hyderabad you don't get drenched in sweat because the body water gets evaporated into the dry air around and you get exhausted without even realizing unless you are supplementing it with electrolyte salts every now and then.

People talking about North India and south India as they are two separate nations. Please don’t do this. We sing our national anthem in bangla even none of understand that language but we still sing it with pride. Please stop division on geographical basis.

It's very difficult to learn south Indian languages..they have no similarity to other languages unfortunately..it's easy to pick up marathi etc.

You are right. They are Dravidian. The closest Dravidian language in the North is Brahui spoken in Balochistan, Pakistan. Start with greetings, simple phrases, questions (Who, What, Why, When, Where, How, How Much), and you will eventually get the hang of it. Many of the words are Sanskrit or even English based, so put together your own easy vocabulary based on such words as a good start,
