I created a small Go Bag for my Mighty UV5R that can double as a SHTF bag or POTA base. I thought that I was so clever that I thought you might appreciate it. So here it is, submitted for your review. Thanks, and have fun!

Great job putting together a basic radio bob! I know what I will be doing this weekend.

Let me know how it works out. I got a tip from another comment - if you put the electrical tape in the kit be sure to put it into a bag or wrap it in paper. Otherwise, over time the adhesive will get on everything.

“Bob Ross” - alright, I’ll take that as a compliment and in my next video I’ll try to remember to mention, “happy little repeaters”. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Since you’re new to the hobby, do you have and questions that I might be able to help with? I’d be happy for the content ideas. - Billo

Thanks! I might have a spare Ned pouch sitting around. I also have a 3d printer but never thought of making a cage like that. Maybe I will have to find a CAD model to print one. I have an Abree 36” ribbon type antenna but might look for a cable and base to extend it outside the pouch? Not sure yet. I like how this setup can move your comms easily from one backpack, or armor carrier, or vehicle quick and easily.

@@cobannie I have another ammo can Go Box that holds two Uv5rs as well as an antenna adapter. I can put the antenna on the box, or use another adapter to connect to an external antenna and a mag mount for the car. I’ll need to do another video on that. Thanks for the ideas. - Billo

"erm, need stealth velco for SHTF ;) " Sharpies are good but biro allows you to get more on the page - especially if you have a smaller size note book. Although I probably wouldn't worry about it down here in the Southern hemisphere (other than possible huge CME radiation issues), wonder if wrapping the electronics in a faraday bag might be worth doing (at the moment)?
@thebillo313
@thebillo313 6 ай бұрын
I had to look up biro. We call it a ball point, and I think that you are right. I’m going to make that change. I’m getting good suggestions. I think of this go bag for civil emergencies, if my prep is going to need a faraday cage, then I think I’ll put the whole bag in one. Another good to I got was to wrap the tape in something so that it doesn’t leak sticky stuff over time. Thanks again for your comments and suggestions. I will need to revisit this idea in the future. I was under the impression that the TID Programmer needs to be connected to work? That's why I've not got one yet. Can anyone confirm this, please?
@thebillo313
@thebillo313 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I hope I didn’t mislead. The programmer needs to be plugged into the radio, the same place as your external microphone or normal wired programmer would be plugged in. But it doesn’t need to be plugged into your phone or into a computer, that’s the advantage. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Thoughts would a roll up jpole be a good idea with that Paracord and about 15-20 ft of rg8x you can really extend the range of the uv-5r
@thebillo313
@thebillo313 6 ай бұрын
Hi @travisdrake2940 I think that you are absolutely correct. Ultimately I want to include a roll up j-pole but for the purpose of this video, and the fact that I haven’t made one yet, I thought to just include the paracord. Have you make one? I’m thinking of making that another video. Thanks for your comment. - Billo

This is a question for all you preppers out there. Is it just me questioning this, why is our best choice of communications made by China? Are there any really good American radios out there? Maybe we could buy to where? Maybe Johnny can't just switch them off somewhere
@thebillo313
@thebillo313 6 ай бұрын
You know, I've thought the same thing. I would love it if there were an American made radio if it were within the same price range. When I did a google search the only radio I can find is the Kenwood TH-D74A which retails for about $600. And you touched on another good point - the US Government has mandated that starting in 2026 all cars must have a kill switch that can be remotely triggered. Who is to say that China hasn't already built one into the cheap radios that they sell here? Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Stay Well my friend. - Billo
