As a podcast producer, I’m acutely aware of how crucial it is to have a reliable and high-quality microphone. As an avid user of microphones for over 15 years, first as a musician in the studio, and now in podcasting, I feel it’s my duty to give you some guidance and stop you from buying trashy equipment
In this review, I will walk you through my experience with the Shure MV7, touching on its build quality, sound performance, and overall suitability for different recording scenarios.

This mic is definitely a broadcast mic - very warm and on the wrong voice, makes it sound very compressed and hot. I have the wrong voice lol Works for many people, though! James Cridland of PodNews uses an MV7, I believe. Perhaps post-production is the answer to this mic, but with the PodMic and other formidable USB/XLR mics out there now it needs a bit of a redesign. And you're right, Brianna - its definitely a plosive machine lol

Yeah it actually sounds much better once you do some post production on it, and the clients we have that use this microphone - they sound great with it due to the post-production we do there. So definitely not a bad microphone at all, but a bit of a redesign will give it the edge it's lacking for sure. Yes! So many plosives. It took me quite a lot to get it to a position that wasn't so poppy! We can always swap out the pop-filter though to get a better result. Love your comments as always!

I love this microphone! but I also think the pop filter is not the best. What i did was to purchase a $15 shure RK345 Windscreen, which is the one Shure includes in the SM7B and fits perfect and works great! it's thicker and longer, allowing the wind to diffuse better before reaching the capsule.

I absolutely agree! I've got a SM7B which I took the pop filter off and tried on the MV7 and it works really well. Shure would benefit from shipping the MV7 with a higher quality foam pop filter, and then this mic would be fabulous.

Just stumbled on you rpage looking for reviews of the Rod Podmic and Shure MV7. I have to say, listening to the Shure with your voice made me like the Rode more. But listening to the Rode with others made me like the bass sound of the Shure. Sounds weird, but I guess I'm gonna have to just buy both and test them with my voice in the end. Is it just me though that thinks the Rode sounds much clearer across the board?

The Rode PodMic has a much crisper sound than the MV7 for sure. The MV7 definitely has more bass presence which is nice because it's easier to reduce the bass in post than add bass in post. If you're planning on using them with the USB input, both microphones have their companion desktop apps so that you can tune the mic to your voice more with some different EQ and compression settings which will really help you get the sound that you feel best with for your voice. The MV7 version "ShurePlus Motiv" isn't as good for customisation than the Rode Unify app. I personally don't use them in the USB format very much at all, and for that reason the PodMic wins for me as I like a crisper sound. Especially when I know that for podcasters specifically, there's a lot of listening in cars and a lot of the time the bass makes the voices too muffled/heavy in car speakers. I'm also reviewing some new SE microphones over the next month as I've been a huge fan of SE for a long time, and I know their build quality is fantastic.

I really like how the mv7 sounds ! I was wondering how did you setup your mic to make it sound like this. Did you change some settings or do you recommend changing something. I have the goXLR Mini

Hey! For this video in the XLR format (which you would use with the GOXLR Mini), I didn't change any of the settings/fiddle with the eq or compression so that it was a completely clean review of the mic as it is. In the GO XLR Mini software, you can change the EQ and Compression settings to suit your voice though. If you're unsure about how to work with EQ, you might get value out of this video I did. It shows you in Descript - but you can apply the same settings/principles to the EQ settings within the GOXLR Mini software. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNd5jbSdyMeqpKs.html

Nice video, i just want to ask because the podmic usb is bit cheaper than the shure mv7 one, And i am gonna need a new mic for my job which is shoutcaster, What do you recommend? i also need the mic that can keep with high pitch voice ( The mic will capture my voice really good even when i'm on the high pitch)

Hey! Would love to answer this question for you! Can you tell me what kind of recording environment you're likely to be in? Will you be in a loud environment, or more controlled environment?

Okay perfect. The PodMic is going to be much better than the Shure MV7. Podmic is a dynamic microphone with clearer tonality than the Shure MV7 and also has a better pop filter (which will be necessary for your shoutcasting). You can also control more settings within the PodMic via their "Unify" software - meaning that you can further tune the mic to your voice, which will be really useful for shoutcasting. I'd recommend that. I'm going to shoot a video for the PodMic unify setup - so you'll be able to see how to set that up nicely. Stay tuned for that. PodMic will be the winner for you. Podmic here: amzn.to/3RfWv9G I'd also recommend putting it on a boom arm like I have in this video, that way (especially for shoutcasting) you can position it further away from your face, but still have it close enough. Decent savings on the boom arms at the moment due to Black Friday sales: amzn.to/46B1QMV

@@bambymediathank you very much for the informatiom details ! Yeah i am planning to buy the boom arm also, so the conclusion is rode podmic usb better with the unify app. Also can't wait for your set up on the app !

But its expensive. I'd rather prefer recording my voice through mobile and give it to Zarific to ensure mic quality audio and save money
