Your video convinced me to buy the MV-7 and it has really improved the quality of my channel audio. The flexibility of the connections, the software and the tonal quality are well worth the $250. I credit your time and effort here to convincing me this was the right move. I've always enjoyed Shure products and was sad when they left the phono cartridge market years ago. Thanks again :)

There are dozens of videos on this mic but this is literally the only video that I would consider to be The Best. It's all the sound you're hoping to hear, all the technical information you need, the pros, the cons, and no flashy "KZfaqr" vibe that makes me thumbs-down a video right away. This is excellence. I really hope other video reviewers follow your lead and record theirs in a fashion similar to this. It's Really quite pleasant.

Firstly, thanks so much for these reviews! I've just discovered your channel and it's fantastic. Really appreciate the detailed, clear, no-nonsense approach. Quick question for this mic - I sing and play guitar, relying entirely on my Zoom H4n's built-in mics for both (recorded sperately). My main complaint with this is my acoustic guitar can sound very boxy/mudddy. Would investing in a mic like this offer me better results? I'm guessing it would be good for vocals, but what about an acoustic? Sorry for the long question.
@MusicRepo
@MusicRepo 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comments. It would be worth you listening to the Shure Podcast, where Jack Drury talks about using the MV7 for acoustic guitar - if you follow this link it will take you right to that point soundcloud.com/shureinc/talking-sm7b-history-and-the-mv7-future#t=20:41. Also @Podcastage did a good review of this mic, and he demos it with acoustic guitar right here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtKEY9xztNfMho0.html personally cannot comment about acoustic guitar, as I haven't tried it myself yet. And also my acoustic guitar playing is super bad, and with lockdown not really able to ask anyone around to help me test it. But hope those two links help :)

@@MusicRepo how do these USB mics compare to your Zoom portable recorder? Thanks!
@MusicRepo
@MusicRepo 3 жыл бұрын
@@REX4340 this Shure MV7 is great for recording voice bif you get up close to it - the Zoom tends to pick up more background noise but I can position it further away, so I often use it to record my voice while making videos. And it records in stereo. The other beauty of the Zoom is you just record onto the recorder, don't need to have the computer on to record. With a USB mic you are constrained by having to record direct onto computer or mobile device. Although this MV7 is dual format, so it can be used with a portable digital recorder via XLR.

Hey i'm thinking of getting a budget home studio, and would need a mic for singing and guitar recording, around 50-100$. For audio interface i'm thinking the Focusrite solo (even though it might be a little overkill for what i'm doing) or possibly even native instruments komplete 2(same applies) but the quality of it should be a A+. I have been taking a peek at behringer b-1, Audio-techinca's AT2020 and other similarly priced mics, but what would u recommend. Kind a darkish voice between baritone and tenor. Thanks!!!

Great review! Very upsetting that they didn’t add compatibility for the USB C iPads. Hopefully it’s something that can be added through a software update later on. Especially since it works with your android usb c device. I decided to keep it as a backup mic to be used between myself an my fiancé when we both have calls at the same time and one of us needs to go into a separate room for privacy and quiet. I think the mic performs better connected via usb. When I connected to my rodecaster pro via xlr I honestly wasn’t too impressed. I use a Lewitt 240pro as my main mic.

The MICRO-USB implementation is a bit baffling in 2020, but serviceable. What I find tremendously disappointing is Shure's complete lack of attention to the glaring problem of plosive control. Plosive control could have been completely mitigated by creating a pop foam filter that was only 1 inch longer. Because the foam actually makes contact with the capsule-grill, it becomes completely useless for plosive control. However, I noticed that if I simply pull the foam off the grill about 1 inch, plosives are almost eliminated. So... If you buy this mic... BUY either a larger foam, pop filter ring, or pick up an sm7b foam filter to put on it.

@MusicRepo
@MusicRepo 3 жыл бұрын
It's different .... if you want to do purely voiceovers, and vocals, then this one is easier to use, due to it being a dynamic mic, no worries about room treatment etc, and you can adjust the settings to your voice. However, the MV51 could be put to a wider range of uses, especially with the choice of settings on the mic. You can audition the full resolution of both of them here to compare: soundcloud.com/musicrepo

I really liked this product when looking for a USB mic but a micro USB port on the mic itself really was a no for me. I've got bad experience with micro-USB plugs breaking, they're just to fragile. USB-c is quite a bit sturdier and that's where the world is going to in any case. Or even a USB-b port which is quite sturdy with an cable to USB-a or USB-c would have been better.

I recently purchased the Blue Yeti Pro XLR/USB combo mic for many of the same reasons you share in this video. However, the Yeti Pro is a large diaphragm condenser and the MV7 is dynamic. I teach middle school band (from home) so I go back and forth between speaking near my mic and then picking up an acoustic instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone) and I have a difficult time balancing the gain I need for speaking compared to when I play a wind instrument. Currently I use the Yeti Pro as an XLR going into a Yamaha MG10XU mixer/USB interface and using Google Meet for class. Any suggestions?

It does work with lightning iPhone/iOS, just not USB-C iPads. I tested it on lightning iPad, worked fine www.shure.com/en-US/motiv-compatibility

How do you set GAIN for singing? Cuz obviously they say to make it go MAX ( when singing loudest note 10db and when normal singing 18db.... is that exactly right or no? how is that possible because you can’t exactly sing always making it stay in between them sooo...... Should I sing loudest note and set it by that OR sing my normal loudness and set it by that I have the mv7 and it’s so quiet. Although I heard this is normal for professional mics because it’s my first real microphone and it needs editing after

Best dynamic microphone ever from Shure is SM5B, no MV7 or SM7B.

My opinion it's overpriced for the value @ $250 dollars. Should be marked to the $150 range. It's no SM7B so comparing should be a mute point. It's still in the comparison to other USB combo xlr dynamics like the Q2u or ATusb

Thanks for your comment. I think this mic is in a different league to the Q2U. However, I have never tried the Audio Technica combo mic. I personally did love this mic though ...
