Thanks, Great informative review. I bought this a week ago for DCS multiplayer with a nice XLR mic and pretty good headphones. Plug and play. With modest yet adequate control for my purpose. It's great for what it is.

phantom power is only useful for condenser mics. The SM7B is dynamic. Phantom power won't make a difference to that mic.

when a dynamic mic (shure sm58)is used, how do you turn off phantom power in garageband on a macbook please?
@Dealcasters4 ай бұрын
You can turn off phantom power on your MVX2U by using the Shure PlusMOTIV app. Your Mac will detect your MVX2U interface, and there is a slider you can un-check to turn off phantom power. Garageband or any recording software doesn't control the phantom power on your interface. I hope this helps you!

Thank you for your video! What tool are you using to record your audio and monitor your dB? I have the ShurePlus MOTIV app but it doesn’t have an option for me to record or view the dB (like the screen on the left of your video). Thanks!
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
Hey there! Great question and thank you for watching. I used Logic Pro X on my Mac to show the db level, but if you don't have that on Mac you can use Garageband, or if either Mac or Windows you can download a free db meter that we also love! youlean.co/online-loudness-meter/ - please let us know if that helps you!
@loveincrediblerecipes2 ай бұрын
@@Dealcasters thank you so much, this is really helpful! I will try using GarageBand. What recording input level of microphone do you recommend using in sound settings for a Mac? (I've seen some say 2/3rds and others 100%)... also do you also recommend any tools for noise reduction (or to remove clicks)? Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
@@loveincrediblerecipes as long as most of your audio is in the range from -6db to -12db on a loudness meter you're good. If you mean mouth clicks, I use Izotope's RX Mouth De-Click as a plug in on my podcasts to remove those. Thanks again for watching!
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
@loveincrediblerecipes the meter in that range usually is yellow. Green is a bit too quiet, and you never want your audio to go into the red (it will clip & distort)

How do you plug this into an iPhone?
@DealcastersАй бұрын
Officially, the MVX2U is designed for use with laptops and desktop computers. We've heard that some have been able to connect an XLR mic with this and an iPhone 15, but you won't be able to use the Motiv software for it. Thanks for watching!
@ddbear87866 ай бұрын
Does the MVX2U remember its settings indefinitely after configuring with the MOTIV app? I will be using it in the field with the USB cord only providing power, and using the headphone jack to output sound to the camera. Sometimes it will be without power, and I would imagine that the settings are saved to non-volatile memory so the user adjusted settings are always recalled at power-on?
@Dealcasters6 ай бұрын
You can save a preset really easily in the MOTIV app! Thanks for watching and let us know if this helps you!
@ddbear87866 ай бұрын
Even if it is not saved as a preset, it still recalls the last configured settings every time it is powered up again, correct?@@Dealcasters
@Dealcasters6 ай бұрын
@@ddbear8786 ahhhhh - now I understand what you are trying to do. Short answer: YES. I didn't know, but just tested it now. I'll probably do a video showing this, because I can see other people having this question. I plugged in the MVX2U with the MOTIV app, set the right sound in the app, then powered down. I powered back up, plugged the same mic into the MVX2U, no MOTIV app - and monitored the sound with headphones plugged into the MVX2U. It was the very same sound that I had set before powering down. Does this help you?

Yes you can! The MVX2U is an interface - so you would use an XLR cable (or plug the MVX2U right into your XLR input on the MV7 and the included USB cable in the MVX2U would go into your computer via USB. We've found that using the XLR output makes the MV7 sound better as well. Does that help you?
