The SM7B and GoXLR combo is a pretty common setup on twitch and the live streaming space in general..
Both are fantastic pieces of equipment for streaming and aren't stupidly expensive compared to some more professional or high end setups..
In this video i'll be showing you how to Setup the Shure SM7B & the GoXLR for live streaming including the best Microphone settings.

Glad you enjoyed the video though and it was helpful 🔥

@ajsarsfield

There's loads of different options these days BUT I'd go 1 of two ways... More expensive one is a Rodecaster Duo, Has 2 USB-C Outputs 1 for each PC... brandstore.rode.com/products/white-rodecaster-duo-b-cable?sca_ref=4597939.DjxTL3OI0Y Amazon link - amzn.to/3Ui1LuY Or the Elgato Wave XLR which had an update recently so it can easily send Mic audio over the HDMI capture card you're using, Slightly less Features but it's like £300 cheaper elgato.sjv.io/Owl-XLR (Can get 5% off the Elgato store with my partner code ZZ- NIGHTOWL) or from amazon - amzn.to/3vTZCfw Wave XLR How to guide - help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/23241648272525-Elgato-Wave-Link-Output-Stream-Mix-to-hardware-device

@@ajsarsfield would you not recommend or would you recommend the go xlr or go xlr mini over those 2 options you mentioned ? At the moment I’m using a rodecaster pro with the elgato capture card but it’s a bit hard to get it to work on dual pc setup more with the audio. I can’t hear my gameplay from my pc . I use a steelseries nova pro which has 2 usb , 1 connected on each of but it can only change to one usb so I have it on the streaming pc but it is confusing and doesn’t pick the audio up and have it recorded or in the stream as well I’m not sure if I’m suppose to have the headphone plugged in the rodecaster pro but it has its own amplifier What would you advise ?

Thank you, your video was really informative and helpful. I actually put all my settings the same as the ones you use (I figured why not give it a go lol), and I'm looking forward to testing it. I am actually in radio and often do my show from home, so I am already set up for that. My son and I are getting back into streaming together (from separate locations) after a long hiatus. This time, I want to use my work setup (Shure SM7b/ GoXLR) for our streams (it's agony for me to listen to our audio when I have to use my gaming headset mic). I am actually looking for more specific help with adding my game console audio to the mix. My son's computer is the host for the stream, so I don't use OBS on my end, which changes my specific help needs. Do you have any content that might help?
@ajsarsfield
@ajsarsfield 6 ай бұрын
I don't specifically have any content about that.. (yet) BUT if you're using the GoXLR to capture audio (depends on the console you're playing) but you could connect the console to the GoXLR as an input either via optical in or Line in etc. That way you should be able to still hear the game through your headphone monitoring + because the GoXLR has a "broadcast" mix.. you should be able to send your microphone + game sound out to your son at the same time . it just gets a bit more difficult if you want to send them to a different location as 2 separate audio streams, but I'm sure someone on KZfaq would have a solution for that lol

Pretty much everything should be the same BUT the EQ might be slightly different... For a higher pitched or Female voice then the bass frequencies need adjusting, as well as maybe the high end not being pushed up as much It'd take some trial/error on your specific voice BUT Id go for something like 100hz - -5db (removes Hums and rumbles lower than your voice) 250hz - +2db (slightly boosts the bass in your voice) 500hz - -3db ( cuts out "boxy" noises sounds flat if left in) 2000hz - 0db 3500hz - +1 (Clarity helps cut through BG music/game etc) 8000hz - -3db (avoids Harsh S and T sounds "Siblance") 12000hz - +3db (Airy sounds) 18000hz- +1db ( also Air its almost high enough we cant hear it BUT these frequencies can add a nice "Sparkle" to voices) Obviously this is all generalisations and SHOULD be tweaked for YOUR voice..

This kind of stuff is super hard for me for a few different reasons. I chose to invest in a RE20, and there aren't many videos covering those that are like this. I have a GOXLR mini, so i don't have as many options, and i just don't understand how to really discover my ideal settings for my voice. I think you did a great job describing everything, but i don't know what to switch and how high/low i should make specific settings to match my voice. It doesn't really help i don't have much sound proofing either, so everything sounds pretty bad to begin with. TLDR it's a struggle
@ajsarsfield
@ajsarsfield Жыл бұрын
As far as i know the RE20 (great mic) has less of a proximity effect.. ( less bass emphasis) SO you probably don't have to remove bass or add much Top end to the EQ as i have done to the SM7B.. I think i replied to someone else here for the "mini" settings I'd use for the SM7b So for the RE20 I'd probably go for something like this; (RE20 switch Flat) 65hz +2 ( sub bass) 125hz +4 (Bass) 0.5hz 0 (Mids) 1Khz 0 4Khz +2 (Treble) 8Khz +4 This is kinda guess work as i don't have an RE20 to test but i know it has less bass and more Treble than the SM7b as well as a built in "mid" cut so. these settings should be a decent baseline that you can hopefully tweak to fit YOUR voice.
@ajsarsfield
@ajsarsfield Жыл бұрын
obviously audio is kinda subkective.. and what i like might be different towhat YOU like... BUT The best way to see what Frequencies do, is to put ALL the EQ to 0 and then listen as you Raise each band individually, so you can hear what its doing to your voice... Then you can kinda figure out whether to add or take away those sounds from YOUR voice. ( by how much specifically might be a bit of trial n error)

@ajsarsfield Жыл бұрын
Assuming you haven't bought an interface or Mixer for it it yet?? If you can afford it buy an elgato wave XLR and a streamdeck +.. That's what I'm doing soon, it'll replace pretty much everything that the GoXLR can do Including have physical dials for controlling volume etc.. If you cant afford both then the Wave XLR will be fine for now.. you just won't have the physical controls n stuff so you'll have to do everything via software on the PC You'll still be able to do all the same effects n stuff in my tutorial just on different software.. (I'll be making an updated video when I switch over!)

Nah... They can help a BIT but the GoXLR has like 70db of Gain available and the SM7B only needs aboit 50-55db to be loud enough, so for online distribution you don't really need one.. If you're doing HIGH end audio stuff.. Voice actor Musician Audio only podcast etc then maybe its worth it but for live streams or YT vids it's not

OMG I completely forgot that the mini gets less bands... No not at all!! The GoXLR is basically an interface & a mixer all rolled into one.. So all you need is the GOXLR & SM7B technically ( the preamps are good enough to power it) I've used it both with and without cloudlifters and barely noticed a difference for online work like KZfaq or Live streaming etc Especially when its mixed with music and gameplay...

The full size and the mini both have the same Pre amps built in, so you don't "need" one for it to sound good.. A cloud lifter Might marginally improve audio quality (you'd drop input gain from 50db to 30db ish) but if you're only streaming on twitch and its being mixed with game audio, music etc 99% of people wont notice, so it wont be worth the purchase anyway

Sadly there's no updates on the software yet... (just the github Linux stuff) However thankfully our GoXLR's will still work for a while as they are.. as long as Windows or some other company doesn't randomly update software that stops it... I've been advising people to eventually get a Streamdeck+ when they can 'Cause that comes with elgatos wavelink software.. And that means you can use the GoXLR as JUST a XLR microphone interface.. but control all your audio with elgatos software (which is arguably better anyway) Obviously it's an extra expense but it's something to look into when you can afford it.. (That's what I'll be doing) I spoke to Elgatos GM and their support team and they confirmed all of this should work together.
