Hello from Romania! I did not have weird sales but i just hit a big milestone for me as a number: 10.000 sales on a photo on Shutterstock!! it is online since 2012... Hey Olly, congratulations on your contract and consistent sales on SS. I recall commenting on one of your earlier videos in August saying I had made $66 on SS. I was actually quite happy with it at the time as it was a very slow start with getting sales, beginning in Feb 2019. Fast forward to yesterday when I made it to the second earnings tier! I completely agree with your comment about the value of video. In my experience, while videos represent a bit less than 12 percent of my total portfolio on SS, they account for almost 44 percent of total income on this agency. Much bigger payouts with video footage than images.

@@gusmcewan I still do, but it’s not a big earner - I do a lot more freelance video work, just because it pays so much more for much less work.

I think that photography sells better for me on Shutterstock, but I find that my illustrations sell better on Adobe Stock.

My weirdest sale was actually a top view shot my Girlfriend standing in front of a Japanese manhole... at it was sold for 14 USD on Istock ☺️ Great advice from you concerning the free shoots 👍

Marlon Trottmann haha that’s an interesting one for sure! I don’t think I’ll be able to recreate it. Free shoots seem to be a good way to break in to everything!

Most of my photos are commercial, but the ones with logos, or recognizable people get the editorial designation. I try to balance having a little bit of both.

Olly, great video as always! How often do you upload? I try to upload 3 times per week. Generally it's mainly during Sunday so it gets approved on Monday, ready for sale as the work week begins and then I upload on Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday. Basically, I found out it doesn't make much sence to upload on Friday and Saturday because it appears on newly content, if approved immediately or with some delay, on times with less frequency of visitors. Also, I get better results if I upload in morning in Europe, so it gets apporved around the lunch time. That way it still meets business hours in Europe and also the business hours in US are about to begin. Do you have similar experience?

That's great information to hear! You have a good and methodical approach to this! In general I will try to upload at about the same rate as you, but I plan to set it up so I can upload at least once per day. I think as long as you upload once a week your work will continue to show up on the fresh and new page. Thanks for the insight!

It is not a good idea to do that, it makes them less searchable and inhibits people being able to find them

Malisha Banks no you don’t need to watermark the photos (they will reject them if you do), because you are only licensing them to people. You still own the photo at the end of the day.

Your photos will be visible by all countries, it is sometime helpful for customers to know where a photo was taken, so hopefully it helps you sell more pictures.

Olly i have seen people with selling from 60 images in portfolio while taking pics with mobile. Why not i am i have now 70 quality dslr pics but i have not sell anything yet but also am a professional photographer
