I decided to test this theory by listening to the “music” from this clip over and over again. Even after watching it like fifteen times, after a few minutes I still can’t remember the lyrics or the beat. Meanwhile, I haven’t seen the original Lady and the Tramp in fifteen years plus change, and I still remember the beat and lyrics to the “We are Siamese if you please” song.

Unnecessary race and gender flip, I have a Siamese and he acts exactly how they do in the original scene. They could have used the original just change the accent used to an upper class accent, from a fake oriental accent.

This version is not as iconic as the original. "We are Siamese if you please~" Peggy Lee give her all on the original when creating and portraying the songs. But this 2019 version feels empty.

‘Just meh’ is putting it lightly. The cats here behave like those overly critical neighbors that live two doors down, who stick their noses in the air and scoff at everything they see for no reason aside from scoffing for the sake of scoffing. I have always considered this to be the characteristics of these particular cats and did not compare them with humans or nationality. I never perceived the original as racist. When I was little, I didn't know about it, and now, after so many years, no one remembers those stereotypes anymore. Racism. Ugh, it only works when someone needs it. Russia is shown everywhere as a snow-covered tundra with vodka and bears. But it's okay for everyone. And here, ooooooh nooooo, stereotypes, racism, oh nooo. They could have just removed the teeth and accent of cats since racism hurts their eyes

The whole reason the song and design of the cats were changed was because the intent of the original song WAS racist. You also can't claim for an entire community that something isn't offensive because only you "didn't notice it" or feel affected by it. Sterotyping any nationality, race, and ethnicity is wrong. For example with Russians, like you said. But that doesn't apply to this song for some reason to you?

Why people claim the song was racist? I don't know the intentions of song's creators, but if they intended to make a joke at cost of Thai people/Asians in general they didn't make it clear imho. There is nothing wrong in the lyrics. And according to some page about Siamese cats "slanted eyes are one of the identifying features of a Siamese cat". As for music- I am not an expert on Thai music by no means, but if you search "Thai Folk Music - Loy Krathong" you will hear quite similar sounds. Now, those cats were not positive characters, that's for sure. But if someone feels that this is offensive because somehow they associate those cats with their country then I have no idea how offended people should be when in movies/books they make a very clear joke at someone's nationality or potray them in the bad light.

I’m pretty sure the reason why they changed the song in the live action is because the original can be interpreted as racist and stereotyping Asian people. This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm a really shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I could introduce myself. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I wanted the best for her and I harbored no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seemed happy with her boyfriend, so I didn't bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it. I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already since I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wanted to live some other life without me in it, so I said, "Okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness." My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally couldn''t take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, "you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get myself a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got so distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video." She said, "You know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer." So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.

There is many things wrong with this version 1. If your gonna film the siamese sence then why didn't they just use siamese cats? 2. There not even singing the actual iconic siamese song. And 3. When someone remakes an old disney movie or they remake it to real life the old one of ALWAYS better and lastly 4. The original siamese cats are way more cute.

The reason for these changes is that the Siamese cat characters were a racial stereotype of Asians, and if you listen to the original song you can tell (it even uses Chinese instruments for the instrumental)

Also for the people saying the whole buck teeth thing to me they just look like fangs, also quite a few Asians that pick up English as a second language speak broken English the same with anyone who learns English as a second language, That's not racist That's just people learning a second language and not speaking it fluently. I will admit the music though could be actually construed as racist or stereotyping.

I just got Siamese cat and stumbled upon the original song. Learned about this version. Boy did they massacred everything. And I don't know whats more creepy, Lady or these cats. They look like animated corpses. They shouldn't make these characters so realistic. Theres a reason animals are made more anthropomorphic in cartoons. This here is uncanny valley territory. Also such realistic animals without any genitalia looks weird. An ultra realistic male cats with female bodies. Why did they change breed and gender? And for this version of the song - it sucks.

@@nicolelatham979 explain how it isn’t and I’ll explain how it is. During this time, being just a little bit after WW2, there was a lot of misplaced fear towards asian people. In several of the propaganda for back then, it show “asian” people with extreme slanted eyes, large sharp teeth, and with an “Asian” accent, which wasn’t actually an asian accent. You see this in several media forms back then, including lady and the tramp, the aristocats, and a few other movies. The Siamese species of cat has been demonized through this media, as well. I could go on, if you still can’t see it.

it wasn't problematic at all, you damn racist. Is portraying those of other races in an authentic way racist? I've heard actual asian people sound like the siamese cats and have buck teeth. Of course it doesn't mean all asians are that way, but it's a stereotype for a reason. Stereotypes aren't racist, stereotypes are simply racial tropes. It's when the trope is used in a negative way that makes it racist, which the siamese cats were not used in a racist way.

@@efrainamezcua7594 A lot of people saw it as stereotyping, with the whole Siamese cats having chinese accents, the music, and all that. I didn't find it offensive, in fact I found it quite charming. Though I'm not Asian myself so don't know how they'd feel about it. For me being African I kinda like it when animals traditional from a certain worldly area have the accent of said area, it always made sense to me. Like how shows that have African animals have traditional African accents. But I guess this is basically the Asian equivalent of Jim Crow from that other Disney movie. Where a black crow was literally called Jim Crow and had an African American accent. That ish was so on the nose that I burst out laughing from how racist it was 😂💀
