in my younger days i would travel from France to Holland by train in winter so you could see the weather drastically change from the beach of the south of France to the cold climate of north Europe ... i was listening to Rachmaninov 3rd concerto and Paganini caprice Variation during this travel, this was on a cd portable player with headphone and was basically the only recording i had on me for the 7 hour travel .... listening to the entrance bring me directly to this time back when i was boarding the train and going for the first time to northern Europe... thanks for sharing it is an amazing performance i have just listened to and it bring back some sweet memories of my first encounters with classical music ( i know that concerto by heart ) i teach classical guitar btw

Not everybody :) People who already knew about good classical music watched this video first, and a handful wouldn't have watched TwoSet's at all. I agree that it would be irresistible to watch Ray Chen's review of Brett and Eddy, and then *not* come to the video of the great professional violinist himself!

I phrased it as nicely as I could, considering that TwoSet (and their loyal fan following) are the reason why *three* of my viola students [8 years old, 9 and 12] *quit music entirely* after getting sick and tired of all the viola disses and jokes, and not only seeing it on what was once a beloved channel, but then being bullied at school by fellow classmates that had "just watched the latest TwoSet video and read the comments (and added to the viola jokes). I couldn't convince *any* of the students that their instrument was a fine instrument and that jokes are just jokes and there are real job and performance opportunities for violists.... so I felt like a failure as a teacher of 14 years, and feel into a depression for over a year consequently. Yes, TwoSet have done great things to motivate a younger generation into starting music or even sparking up the flame for passion again in violinists thinking of putting away their instrument after just learning the basics for a few years .. ... but some of TwoSet's actions have lead to *not so great things* as well....as mentioned above in this comment. So actually from my point of view, my comment is quite nice considering I even chose to put a compliment at the end. I have to finish on a low note as well (no pun intended) but actually in my city: there are ensembles and groups that will *not* even consider you as a joining member at auditions or similar processes if you so much as mention TwoSet, seeing as TwoSet has put out a lot of "junk-nothing-fluff" videos and "immature" videos that don't add much to classical music at all, it's just for laughs. The reason why said ensembles and groups choose their musicians accordingly is perfectly legitimate in my opinion considering they are searching for professionalism [as much as possible] and I am on their side with that to be perfectly honest. ....and I personally would like to see a beautiful classical concert of Beethoven, Grieg, Shostakovich, Paganini, Debussy .... *without* hula-hoops being involved. No disrespect to you personally at all either by the way - I've never met you and you seem nice enough (you didn't swear at me, and worded your comment nicely), and I do see your side of the picture in regards to my first comment. The people who do see my underlying bitterness in such comments *do* get the longer reply though, with a fuller personal story, and I have to say sorry about that!

But I think it's a normal thing and it doesn't necessarily mean you are a bad teacher or TwoSet is evil :D As you have mentioned, they are children and they might find understanding sarcasm and jokes difficult. I have studied in a music school for 5 years, and I had my own moments😂. (I'm not a musician tho) So, I see where your anger is coming from, but if there are issues, being passive aggressive or shaming isn't the way to solve them, I believe. I'm not trying to be their advocate or smth, just saying what I see. They r professional violinists, knowing the rules of classical music world as good as you, I believe. The amount of passion and respect they show for their work is incredible and respectable in my opinion. The youtube channel is created for fun, and there is nothing to diss saying "Playing while hula hooping is not professional!" Bc..? Of course it's not😂 Besides, the passive aggressive remark about not even being considered to join an ensemble if you mention TwoSet too much, is a little weird? I don't rly know how the qualification process goes, but in any type of application, where you would try to look professional, talking about a youtube channel isn't a smart move anyways. TwoSet violin is an entertainment channel created for fun and nothing else. I still think there is nothing to shame about it. Hope u don't see my comment as disrespectful. YJ JY - In my opinion, the most expressive version of this is by Lisa Batiashvili. Her recording with Daniel Barenboim conducting is extraordinary, again, in my opinion. There are some videos of her playing the concerto on You Tube. The one with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome is very good.

Talking about obsession, I once played the third movement on repeat on a one and a half hour drive. To my defense I will say that I had just bought the concerto on CD, so I was finally able to play it in the car. And I was alone.

I personally enjoy this version's pitch of the top note in that segment, its pushed higher than the version i watched of stern's interpretation, but its good.

This interpretation feels really jerky, especially compared to Vengerov's silky smooth rendition. Honestly, I find this interpretation by Chen absolutely revolting. I do like his other performances though.
