ABC News' Patrick Reevell reports on the melting permafrost in some parts of Russia that's putting roads and buildings at risk of collapse, and may contribute to more greenhouse gases.

At this point people need to stop talking about reducing our emissions and we need to invest in the technology to extract carbon out of the atmosphere

The concern in Siberia may be unstable foundations, but the implications for the world are dire, as it proves feedback loops have already initiated. Even if we could stop putting so much carbon into the atmosphere each year, it wouldn't stop that momentum forcing feedback loops. Think of it as a slingshot effect with a 35 year delay (thermal inertia) from emitting CO2 to the resuling effect it has. We have to wait until 2056 just to see the inertial effect of what we've already put into the atmosphere, let alone the billions of tons we'll continue to emit into the future.

This is more important than who took the vaccine or not. I'm really concerned about the climate change.

I live in northern Canada and it's permafrost here as warped roads and destroyed towns

Between the permafrost releasing natural gas in Alaska and Siberia, the climate is toast

Luckily the people who created these major problems won't be around to suffer any of the consequences.

It's also a major problem in Northern Canada and much of the land is subsiding becoming bogs and in parts washing away into the Arctic Ocean. Siberia is much larger though.

It’s amazing that the ecosystem is so delicate that a change of 2-3 degrees can cause such dire consequences.

Wait, where does that guy at the end get his mammoth bones for carving? Are there mammoth bones just laying all over Siberia?

In the 1970's scientists said we would be in an Ice Age right now. Let that sink in....

Well apparently there were living animals where the permafrost was in a most likely ideal environment for survival.. the climate changes…..
