The best way to move through the winter forest! (Often made of spruce, poplar, Siberian pine, willow, etc). You hardly need lift your feet, especially on an already run route making pulling sleds or trekking through the snow a breeze! The first time i put these on it felt as if the whole winter forest opened up to me...

Snowshoes are fairly easy to construct with small saplings and cordage. Whereas skis require the processing of large pieces of lumber. Which may explain why snowshoes developed in North America, while skis were made in Eurasia where iron tools were available. Great videos btw.

Hi Jordan, check out Altai skis! they make a cool modern version of these traditional skis, based on skis used in the altai mountains, pretty useful up here in Canada too. Keep up the great content

Less drag than Ojibwa-pattern snowshoes is very attractive. I looked for a commercial version but the Altai mentioned below is apparently not imported into the US.

Glue and Staples or small nails along the edges

Hey Jordan, I became a big fan of yours watching Alone, and have seen all your videos with the Evankis. I got a question. How would you have made skis on the show had you needed to stay there longer? With the equipment you had could you make Siberian skis or some other make shit style skis. Since you did have the Moose could you have used the fir? I'm really curious if it would be possible without a plane. Anyway, keep up the good work and I love your videos. Thanks

Hey thanls...I made some things that would of worked .....roycraft snowskis they are called. It would be hard to make nice ones without a plane, but you could make something to get by

Hi Jordan, Here in Lapland skis are also the prefered way of transportation for hunting vs snow shoes. Are the skins folded around the edges?

@@hobojordo The hunter's favorite nowadays is of the Swedish brand Tegsnäs. It's been around for about 100 years. A wooden skii that is used off the beaten tracks and like yours goes everywhere silently. I have them as well :) It's a longer type of ski with different width all along the length of the ski. tegsnas.se/skis/?lang=en Wooden skis for forest use has a long tradition in upper Scandinavia. The swedish army's ski is also kinda popular. It's also a wooden ski called Vita Blixten/The White Flash but is quiet heavy. I had a neighbor who made and sold skis. Bo Östergren. His skis are considered the Rolls-Royes of skis. The nose rise very slowly and makes the ski a bit longer than the average but which allows it to never sink even in deep powder snow. His skis are inspired by 5000 year old finds. The Sapmi people manufactured their own skis through the centuries. polarisen.se/manniskan/skidor/tillverkare-av-lossnoskidor/
