I’ve just made it a personal policy to NEVER congratulate or even comment on someone’s weight loss. Ever since I learned that 95% of intentional weight loss efforts eventually result in even more weight being regained than what was originally lost, I just feel like it’s setting people up for poor self-image and created an unnecessary social dynamic/conversation around other people’s bodies.

Sometimes it's not about what you eat but the way you eat. From my experience having going through a life of scrutiny about what I eat, the suggestion of a skinner body making me a better person. Again for me it was about eating slower chewing more and avoiding bread and liquids other than water. Eating fast can lead to excessive bloating and so can eating after 7 pm. It's an annoying reality but it does make a difference, at least what I have seen.

I agree with Bob about not congratulating people on their weight- there's so many more beautiful things you can complement. I lost some weight before my wedding because I was really sick (crohns disease) and during my final dress fitting the owner of the dress shop wouldn't stop complimenting me on my weight loss, even after I told her it was due to illness, she actually said she was jealous of my weight loss aha. People can be so dense.

My girlfriend had big issues with an ED and lost close to 80 lbs. Eventually she got so tired of people congratulating her on her weight loss she would straight up say "thanks its because of my fat eating disorder" and it shut people up real quick.
