I did 25 years wearing my country's uniform with two deployments in a war zone. While deployed every day is groundhog day. Remember to give thanks and honor the military families that have to carry on on their own while a loved one is deployed. My oath of office never expires

Thank you for reacting to this song, I'm a US Army combat veteran. The war cost me a marriage during my 6 month deployment. After my divorce I volunteered to go back to Afghanistan and Iraq to serve for another 10 years as a Department of Defense employee. I'm retired now from 27 years of total service and still single 😊

Your reaction is true, genuine and heart-felt. My husband (I did not know him back then) enlisted into military service after HS in 1971 (18). He said he didn't have to enlist, his draft number (during the Vietnam War) was 341, but he says he felt obligated. His Dad was a Navy WWII Veteran and his oldest brother served 2 tours in Vietnam in the US Navy. All of us sign a "blank check" upon oath of enlistment payable by accepting unlimited personal sacrifice - whatever was asked. The only reason he says he left military service was an opportunity to go through the testing/hiring process for police officer in his hometown - which he did get. About 7 yrs after starting his civilian police career we met and were married. He took a 20 yr retirement in 1997. Very much appreciate the job you do.

I, as a American veteran, appreciate those who serve and have served. Even those who cycle out for a other than dishonorable discharge take an oath that the individual never rescind's. That patriotism live's in their blood. Veteran's past present and future are proud to have had the opportunity to bear that cross, and will always carry that with them even after discharge for whatever reason other than dishonorable. We may not always agree with the reason's why but we still just do it. We love our country and the people in it and will always stand beside our brothers and sisters in arms to defend the rights and freedoms that men and women have so proudly died for. Thanks to Sir Toby Keith (RIP) for bringing the soldier's voice a bit more clarity.

Imaging serving in the US Army, enlisting straight out of high school and deploying to Afghanistan before turning 19. He came and did an USO and MWR tour across Afghanistan and landed in Helmand Providence which was a Taliban stronghold through the US war there. He cared about the troops so much he faced the same things we did to bring us joy and happiness, as well as, a little bit of home to our troops while fighting. I was stationed at FOB Leatherneck where I got to watch him perform this song live in 2012. It was definitely a moral booster for us.

I am from a long line of US MARINES, my dad served 3 tours in Vietnam. His first tour was when Vietnam was classified as police actions in 60. At one time they only classified Vietnam war , from 68 to 75 as the war and from 58 to 68 were police actions, they have reclassified it now because there was just as much fight there , we just didn’t have a large ground force. My brother served in the marines from 84 to 91, I served from 86 to 92 marines, and our youngest brother served army for 4 years 89 to93

Just stumbled on this reaction video. I’m glad you enjoyed it and understand the message that Toby Keith was conveying. Although not music videos, you might want to review two videos based upon the rescue of Jessica Buchanan. One video is by CBS News; Jessica provides some of the voiceover. The other video by Brothers in Arms tells the story from the vantage point of the Navy SEALs. Both videos highlight the selflessness of our military’s special operators.

I remember when I was 5 or 6 my Mom and I drove my Dad to the Navy base so he could get on board his submarine and little did I know at the time but he was headed for Vietnam service. I was old enough at the time to realize what that meant. My Dad was in the Navy for 20 years. My older brother was in the Army during the height of Vietnam but they wouldn't allow him to go over because of disciplinary violations. He actually did want to go to the war zone.

I missed Vietnam by five years. I lost a cousin there. I served in the Navy for 10 years. It was the deployments that were hardest. I always hated seeing all the women and children seeing off there deploying husbands. Military should only be for single people. There were too many of those wives that would hit the bars after the ship hit the breakwater. I married another sailor and she and I seem to keep passing and never were together. So much for marriage and have not been in a relationship in over 30 years. I have fond memories of the Navy. Things like building schools in the Philippines and providing text books to schools. Providing food. So much good our military men provide in foreign countries. It's not all about war.

Sometimes I wish we could go back to when people wrote letters to each other. I really miss writing a pen pal in school, we wrote to people a few states over and I just remember how nice it was to see how she would decorate the letter and waiting for a week for something made me really focus on what she had to say. Kids today miss out on that and it’s a shame. They have no patience at all. If they had to wait a week for a reply they would totally forget about it. I’m 36 now and I’m not sure if anyone still writes friends but I wish I could find a nice woman who enjoys writing letters or maybe like a email pen pal would be neat. I dunno why I wrote that im sure most people don’t like writing letters to a stranger just to be friends, but I dunno maybe I’ll find one some day.

Very rarely do men join the Service because it's just something to do. Men are born to protect and they do this. It's called toxic masculinity these days. We've not been through a World War in our time so true men have never been needed like this. When tough times come, men will shine and protect us.
