As the mother of a son who served 21 years in the USMC, this touches me deeply. Toby Keith and Trace Adkins have been in Afghanistan and Iraq so often that most deployed military have met at least one of them....sometimes more than once. I saw him perform this live last summer in Indiana, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the place. He's still a great performer.

The reason I like this song so much is that it really shows the hardest part of being a soldier. It’s not the danger. Its when you’re in a tent on Christmas Eve thinking about your family that you haven’t seen in a year. I cried a lot overseas and every single time it was when I was in bed at night thinking of my loved ones.

My husband and I met in the Air Force. He stayed in 20 years. He was drafted and sent to Vietnam in 1968. His Dad was a Army Air Corps fighter pilot in WWII. My Dad also fought in WWII. My husband's family and mine have fought in every single war including my nephews in Afghanistan. My husband passed away in 2012. These patriotic songs bring tears to my eyes. I know the cost and sacrifice. I have always loved my country and am saddened by those who don't these days. I suggest 8th of November by Big and Rich. It will gut you. Thank you for reacting to Toby Keith's "American Soldier". As an American, I have a great deal of respect for the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Yes, there are things that need to be addressed and corrected from time to time. But, considering that our Armed Services are made up of people who volunteer to serve, there is a lot to be proud of, and grateful for. Contrary to the image some people have of Americans always looking for a fight, most Americans don't want to start a war. But, we do realize that we have to be prepared and ready to fight when it is necessary. I enjoy your reaction videos and appreciate you thoughts and insights. I look forward to watching more of them.

I like to see other peoples outside the USA react to this song because OBVIOUSLY the idea of patriotism, and soldiers of one's country having laid down their lives in prior/current conflicts is universal. I love lyrics. I don't get behind this song as a "YEAH LET"S GO USA" anthem I just really like the theme and lyrics from a soldier's point of view, in service to whatever cause they are committed to, even if that means the ultimate sacrifice. Really great lyrics by Keith I think, indeed timeless lyrics. "I'm just trying to be a father, Who has a daughter and a son Be a lover to their mother Everything for everyone Up and at em bright and early I'm all business in my suit Yeah I'm dressed up for success from head down to my boots I don't do it for the money There's bills that I can't pay I don't do it for the glory I just do it anyway Providing for our future's my responsibility Yeah, I'm real good under pressure Being all that I can be And I can't call in sick on Mondays When the weekends been too strong I just work straight through the holidays And sometimes all night long You can bet that I stand ready When the wolf growls at the door Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady Hey I'm true down to the core And I will always do my duty No matter what the price I've counted up the cost I know the sacrifice Oh, and I don't want to die for you But if dying's asked of me I'll bear that cross with honor 'Cause freedom don't come free. " You cold apply those lyrics to near any soldier anywhere. Replace the "cross" with whatever faith, it still holds true. Really great songwriting.

I can totally relate to this music video. I was once that lady at the fence seeing her hubby off during deployment. I remember the countless dinners at the hangar because hubby had to pull 24 hr flight duty and wasn't able to come home. My hubby missed out on piano recitals, art exhibits and lots of games while my son was growing up. He watched my son graduate high school on a satellite because he was deployed. The military is not for the faint of heart. Lots of sacrifice had to be made by the soldiers and their families, with that said, we have zero regret. I met so many wonderful people along the way from different walks of life. My hubby finally retired a couple of years ago. We are now catching up on things.

I was wondering if you are going to be doing anymore Pentatonix reactions? Also I know Mitch is your favorite as he is mine and I don’t know if you saw that he released a solo album called Roses. He uses the name Messer and all the songs are originals written by Mitch( Messer) for it and my absolute favorite song is called “Machine”from that album. It has a 90’s feel to it. I ran across your channel a few days ago. Reaching out to tell you how much I appreciate your respect for the American soldier. I am the son of a retired Army veteran, I served in the Air Force during "an Asian vacation" my eldest son sailed around the world on an aircraft carrier (including Fjords near Sweden) and also ten years in the reserve, my youngest son is a retired combat veteran who served in too many places, his younger sister served as a medic in the reserve. We are not unique. None of us want wars anywhere, but will serve in any way we can to preserve our country and our Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. Recently through DNA testing I came in contact with a first cousin in Sweden. My cousin is very worried about the threat from your east. I said your military has excellent technology, your Air Force has performed excellently alongside US in military exercises. It doesn't matter to me if you join NATO or not, a free country should choose its own path. Either way I don't doubt that we would stand alongside you if there was a call to preserve a free people. I am touched by your willingness to show respect to our people in military service. As you may know there is a strain of Sweden in the USA and my family respects your nation and culture as well. Thank you.

I will never forget the guys I served with when we had to deploy. Saddly we did it so often during the early 2000's that many of the husbands and dads said it was getting easy.

Hi Recky! This song always gets me. I feel like I need to recognize my family members. My great grandpas were service men. Grandpas too, one a medic and one brought bits of Normandy back with him to dangerous to remove. My Uncles, on both my dad's and mom's side. One a medic earning the purple heart and coming home a paraplegic. MY DADDY, MY HERO, served in Nam. Things to this day he will not repeat. He was hit with Agent Orange, nightmares, certain loud noises make him jump, and waking him is a story in itself. OUR SOLDIERS ARE TRUE HEROES, MEN ABOVE MEN. They have no glory but once a year they MAY get a thank you. Thanks for letting me recognize them!

As an American, I'm very grateful for your comments to this song and Angry American, and your words touch my heart. May I suggest some patriotic songs that I'd enjoy hearing you comments on.....Meet Me At Arlington and Name On A Wall (both by Jimmy Fortune), Travelin Soldier (Home Free), God Bless the USA (Lee Greenwood, Home Free, & The Air Force Singing Sergeants), Ballad of The Green Berets (Sgt Barry Sadler), and going back to the 60's (?), Little Barefoot Boy (Bobby Vinton). Thank you, again. I love hearing your comments.

Check out "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood. The version he does with Home Free and the US AirForce Band is the best in my opinion. 💙

I would recommend "Angel Flight" by Radney Foster. This version is the Radio Tower Remix. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bZZ5ns1izcConqs.html "Angel Flights are the U.S. Air Force planes (C-130's) used to fly home our Fallen Soldiers. Angel Flight is also their call sign. ... Now, of course, there are other flights that have an even higher priority, but in reference to other standard military flights, for takeoff or landing, Angel Flights are always #1 in the pattern.

Toby Keith is great! He also has a lighter side to his singing..try listening/ reacting to TRAILERHOOD or NOT AS GOOD AS I ONCE WAS... I relate to a lot of his patriotic songs & videos because for most of my adult life, I was a Naval wife ( Gulf war, Dessert Storm era)...prior to that, my father served in the Army ( Korea war era), 1 Uncle that served in WW2 (Normandy) and 4 other Uncles served in Vietnam. My niece is currently in the Airforce and serves at Dover, working with the Thunderbirds. Anyway, I can relate to sending your loved one off at the pier, standing there with your children as the tug boats push the ships away from the pier & out to sea, and all their questions and tears as I tried to hold mine back. It's not an easy life, for anyone or any military family, but we all understand why it is necessary for these sacrifices and we're all so proud of our service members. The cost of freedom is high and we don't take it lightly or for granted.

@@Reckyj there are a couple of versions. The history, the changing of the guards, why you never mess with a tomb guard, what it takes to be a tomb guard, and the worst mistake made by a tomb guard. There probably are others as well. Thank you for responding back. Happy Easter.
