Got to put the work in and dive often , Get hovering at depth and the fundamentals ,be comfortable being uncomfortable. Make the trips to dive open water for us it quarries in 40 degree water with 30 ft viz on a great day. But it’s so worth it.

First, "you don't know what you don't know", and decades of garbage training has led to each subsequent generation of [so-called] "instructors" being less and less knowledgable, skilled, and qualified, and ALL of them have always thought they were "great divers". Second, this effect directly impacts the overwhelming majority of divers out there, all receiving sub-par at best training, and all going on to believe they're better than they actually are, simply because, well, "you don't know what you don't know." 🤦🏼‍♂ What you're describing is exactly what we deal with on a regular and routine basis here...

Great video and very good insights. That propulsion technique at 04:37 kinda blows my mind - never seen anything like it but have to try. Is there a tutorial on it somewhere?

As someone just starting to look into technical training and possibly sidemount, I would find something like an assessment dive with my future instructor helpful. Tell me where I stand and if my skills are sufficient to continue. If not, tell me what to work on. But I guess that's kind of what a fundamentals / intro to tec course does, but in a course format. But how about a sidemount course? If it's an entry level course, shouldn't those skills be taught if they're not perfect yet?
