She didn't wear makeup in the film and still looked great. What a natural beauty.

My wife and I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! It's shot in our stopping grounds!!! San Diego and Solvang wine country. The Hitching Post has been our restaurant since 1980!!! We have the DVD and open a bottle of Gainey Pino Noir and watch it. Everything she says about the area are soooo true. Once you are there... you in a special sanctuary.. We go up there every year from San Diego.

Virginia did a great job, wonderful performance, a fantastic, human, emotional film. It doesn’t matter how Hollywood sees you, all these actresses act like a victim, they can be in a play, they can make movies in other countries, they don’t always have to be in a big budget film. It’s hard for everybody, no matter what they look like, to make it in Hollywood. A career is a difficult thing to build no matter who you are.

Beautiful place, I lived near there and a friend of mine worked at the Hitching Post. One of my all time favorite movies. She is wonderful and so genuine.

Her interpretation of "The Valley" hit home for me, having lived in Santa Ynez for ten years. She described the feeling, the hold it has on anyone who was blessed to be part of Solvang. I miss it badly. Her acting resonates the flavor of the Central Coast. What an ensemble of amazing talent. Every aspect of the movie created a work of art.

Virginia Madsen is so elegant and poised, a true beauty. I can't believe Antonio Sabato Jr didn't marry this woman. They had a son together and reportedly co-parent but Antonio went on to conceive two more children out of wedlock with two other women. He's now married to some immature Asian girl who's an ex Raiderette cheerleader. I saw him on an episode of Celebrity Wife Swap and his new woman is so immature, it was ridiculous.What a step down compared to Virginia Madsen. Virginia is a class act and such a good actress.

Get a life. You know nothing about this woman other than that which she chooses to show you on the screen. Just like every other self-centered actor on the planet. People are so damn gullible.

Epitome of the earthy beauty as Maya. When she came out with the "Sassicaia" line it harpooned me. I later had dinner with Piero Incisa della Rochetta, The young Marchese owner of the winery, and asked him "how the hell did you get that product placement?" I believe he told me it was Alexander's call. I don't remember it being in the book. Like many I know, I no longer drink but love the movie-the humor and tenderness. Maya's ultimate line is the sexiest in film sans sex. I particularly love the Maya message/Rainy drive full of hope and rebirth.

Sequel idea: "Fully Upright." Virginia Madsen works out in a gym lots, but gets sucked into drinking Merlot at night for the er, anthocyanins... What the hell - make the movie for the dollars it'll rake in; you guys have already made one of the best movies of all time and have already proved that you are actors, writers, directors, and producers who deserve to be in the same league - literally, in the same league - with things like Sunset Boulevarde. It's a fact. This movie will be remembered for a long long time. It's a total classic. Thanks for such great work. How can it possibly be improved on. It's up there. No question.

She was too picky and fussy about a job having to perfect or she won't do it. She said it herself in this interview. Sounds like she got in the way herself.

Man, it would be an absolute total knockout hit if Alex Payne goes for a decent sequel if not even triple line it with a third. Yes, the first one really IS that good. Here it's friggin 2016 almost and every time I watch this one I wonder why on earth there isn't another one. Everyone could speculate with their own spin on what it should/could look like, but this cast is Da Bomb and they made this film shake!!!!

@brianmallen88874 жыл бұрын
Maybe, just maybe, she was too picky about the work she chose? Paul Giamatti seems like a "let's do it, it may not be "Sideways," but I will treat it like that". Of course, Giamatti and Madsen are totally opposite "types," one the nerdy everyman and the other a blond knockout. So I can imagine P. G. easier to cast. And Virginia has to compete with other stunningly beautiful actresses who are probably gonna be younger. So it's tough. If I was her agent or manager, right after "Sideways" I'd be " okay, 75% of Sideways, good money, book it. Ten seconds later same thing. And again, like ten times, four of five years of steady work, bound to be a chestnut of a role in there to raise the profile again. Worst case scenario? you're set for life financially V.M. And to look at it objectively, like Audrey Hepburn's first boyfriend told her, "the world needs to see you on film, your heart-stopping beauty is almost like it belongs to the world. Plus your acting talent alone is a gift that needs to be shared." Sideways got ripped off by Million dollar baby at the Oscars. Chick boxer carrying this tide of political correct b. s. empowerment over a real person like Maya, and Jack. It's like the academy is such a sucker for typical "tropes." The mentally challenged underdog, or anybody playing " The Joker. "
