This train takes off faster than most cars I've owned! Love it.
@one_step_sideways Жыл бұрын
It's not even accelerating that fast though. It's actually rather slow as the train was made to reach higher speeds to go fast between two neighbouring towns, but not accelerate and decelerate fast between the stops.
@segsfault Жыл бұрын
it's an EMU Train Or Electric Multiple Unit Train, these sort of trains basically have traction motors on the main "locomotive" + all the carriages attached behind... so yea acceleration & deceleration is quite fast...

Always surprises me there's enough friction between the metal of the wheel and the track to transfer all that torque without slipping

Trains weighs a lot. And friction depends on the normal force, so enough friction is generated for it move forward.

@@roopeshkrishna34 no, sand box isn't being used regularly. It's usually used by the locomotives during uphills or in rainy season, not on regular basis. In this video this is emu, and there's no sand box here but still it's using it's torque without slipping the wheel. I also have this question how the torque is being generated efficiently without wheel slip. Your reply doesn't make any sense here.

That sound, particularly the clicking of wheels on the rail joint points (idk what they're called), is jogging memories from our first apartment right next to a railroad. Mom says both my sister and I would wake at the quietest noise, but sleep right through a giant-ass freight train rocking the entire damn building while lumbering past...

But indian railway is highly strict 😕 because they don't allow to put the camera under the train carriage, so no video is available on the internet. But I love the sound the motor makes 🙃

Yeah, it's nice hearing the good old clickity clack that railways without welded rail offer
@FrostyAUT4 жыл бұрын
@@karlosbricks2413 Pretty sure those are welded rails. They make that sound as well, not because the wheels are rolling over a gap, but because the rails are given a certain leeway to bend down in regular intervals. When a train passes these points, the rail than gets pushed vertically into the railway sleeper, which causes this sound. At least that's my conclusion.

This is MY kind of train video! I love the sound of (what might be) the motor drive ramping up the frequency.
@stephen7mgte3 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what it is dave, you can hear the cooling fans ramp up inside the the traction converter unit and the high pitched noise comes from the control package which incorporates I.G.B.T'S (insulated gate bi-polar transistor) these transistors are capable of very fast switching and very high current handling so they are a good choice for a/c motor speed control
@matthewlongstaff31129 ай бұрын
@stephen7mgte Does the IGBT switching frequency increase until it becomes too high to hear?
@matheusmaquinista66985 жыл бұрын
The locomotives here are from Brazil that are diesel-electric. The traction motor is inside a box that can use oil or grease as a lubricant of the gear assembly. The box has an upper entrance that connects a flexible tube that sends cooled air into the box coming from the blower the hot air comes out through a small grill on top of the box
