Twins Husai and Hassi take the decision together to leave Sierra Leone. In spite of Husai’s initial failed attempt, this time they’re both ready to take the step. They hope to earn enough money and eventually bring over their parents and Husai’s daughter.
The documentary paints a detailed picture of the sisters’ daily lives. The twins live with their family in poverty. It’s the monsoon season and once again, the family home is under water. The twins are unable to convince their father to move out of this vulnerable house. He refuses to leave - in spite of everything.
Husai and Hassi hatch a plan to leave Sierra Leone to find work and a better future abroad. They’re in agreement over this, but they didn’t always see eye to eye. Unlike her sister Hassi, Husai wears a headscarf. She was raised by her aunt and was always the more adventurous of the two.
She tried to make a life for herself abroad before but ran into problems. When she got pregnant in Kuwait as an unmarried woman, her horrified family had to bring her home. Now, their taciturn father supports their plan to migrate - but their mother is against the idea. The filmmaker accompanies the young women as they go about their work at the market and in meetings with intermediaries promising visas. A new, strong bond begins to form between the twins, who have learned to forgive -- and stand up for -- each other.

I am a British of Cameroonian origin. I have lived with people from Sierra Leone and they are very good people. I have been to many remote communities in Africa and saw this problem. I think we Africans have to invest in our communities and create wealth and opportunities to the locals. I plan to invest in Sierra Leone soon and I hope to be able to employ a lot of young people and train them by the grace of God.

For those talking about the marriage emphasis from the mother. They don’t understand. Getting married is what they know as the easiest way to get their girl child out of poverty. Getting pregnant for an unserious man which is likely decreases those chances. So they’re not being selfish. This is the community I was born and grew up in. The street they passed to go to school was where I lived till I graduated from University in 2021. I go there every now and I saw faces I have shared laughter and sorrow with. I don’t know these families though but I can feel it. I pray they make it. That school the kids attend is actually formed by a mosque called Jamatul Haq. From the current parliamentary representative to the former and so many of us including my Dad have been able to find meaning out of our lives through that mosque. You can hardly find mosques that allow young people to live there and pay their school fees unto college fees. If not for the people we surrounded ourselves with, we would’ve been in the streets with gangs like so many we grew up with. Never stop trying. Someday we will rise to a better society and better living.

The best, most beautiful and kindest people in Africa. I am a Moroccan from North Africa and this is a testimony to the people of Sierra Leone. I passed through their country on my trip across Africa by bicycle. It is true that the people of Africa are friendly without exception. And any people has good and bad. But the good are more than the bad. And the people remain. The Sierra Leoneans are the best. I did not see a single flaw in them. Even the police are friendly, kind and helpful. I will never forget what they did to me. The second people I loved was the Guinean, a wonderful people. Likewise, the Senegalese and the Ivorian. I consider the Ivorian a wise people. It seems that education in Codevoire is the best education in Africa, and God knows best.

This documentary made me so emotional, I hope the sisters are doing well and have kind employers that would treat them fair and with respect. the parents should be proud that they've raised them well. I love the bond of the twins and how supportive the dad was, i understand where the mom was coming from but children should leave the nest and experience life for themselves, glad that she didnt hinder their applications. It's beautiful to see a glimpse of how a family and a life in Sierra Leone goes. Love this docu. And update about them would be very much appreciated, hope they are doing well

Great documentary @ DW , I’m so glad a lot of people out there can get to understand some of the hard stuffs our people are faced with in their daily lives. There are many more sad and disheartening stories out there similar to this or even more pathetic than this. These young people go through a lot to get out of our poverty stricken society and it’s like they are left with no option but to push further.

Our people in Africa put their responsibility on God, everything is God but God gave you mind to think. So the poverty in Africa is a mindset. The Allah we worship gave us every but we don't like to think. So that is the poverty.

I had the opportunity to view this documentary at the International Film Festival in the Netherlands, and it was emotional. As a Sierra Leonean, the situation back home is terrible. Nobody should go through this level of poverty that forces them to flee their homeland. Unfortunately, the situation is not any better in some of these countries that promise work and better living. We should educate our citizens on this and of course Government support.
