Hey Ladies! Just wanted to say, while I definitely miss our OG girlies, I’m really loving all the guest episodes these last several releases! Super stoked to have S, R, and P all back together, but it would be awesome to showcase more of the collective/other friends as guest stars in future episodes! Love the pod, I never miss an episode! 💕

Girl. Your trader Joe's story. I am so sorry that is so unacceptable. I had someone say something similar to me when I announced my first pregnancy. "I wouldn't tell anyone else if I were you. A lot of people lose pregnancies that early, it's very common". Stole the air out of my lungs. Intense anxiety after. From pure joy to terror.

What Rachel said about setting boundaries and breaking hearts but not caring is so so SO important. I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and 2 weeks ago my mom uninvited herself from my baby shower, took back her gifts, and dismissed herself from my babies life completely because I set certain boundaries and she was not ok with it and you know what.... I'm ok with her walking away. The boundaries I choose to set for my child need to be respected no if ands or buts and like sierra said, you WILL respect these boundaries if you want to be a part of the babies life. If you can't do that then we are all probably better off with you not being around.
@peachxtaehyung

Wow wtf? I am so so sorry! I cannot imagine not having my mom being around my child's life. I wish people would understand even if it's that's your grandchild it doesn't mean you can raise it however you want. Help raise it how their actual parents want it to be raised you know? Things change so not everyone should be raised the same way

Just had my 3rd baby (all 2ish years apart) and oh my goodness I wish everyone could go into parenthood with a 3rd child. The level of confidence and chill, it's a game changer. I know not everyone would thrive with 3+ kids so it's more the confidence that I wish upon every parent.

I never comment on anything but I just wanted to say that this was such an amazing episode and I really appreciate your guys’ willingness to be so open about the harder parts of parenthood. I am not a parent lol, but if I am someday, I really hope I am able to find a community that is as uplifting as yours. And on a lighter note, I think it is so amazing that Kenzie, despite her social anxiety, was able to see Harry styles in concert by herself! That resonated with me as a person that has had social anxiety my whole life, but also goes to concerts alone (mainly to see Harry lol). There’s something so freeing about his shows and I am beyond happy that Kenzie was able to experience that, especially at a (seemingly) dark time.

I LOVE all of the open and honest conversation from each of you and hearing your birth stories!!! ❤❤❤ I knew immediately when you mentioned the Trader Joe’s lady she must have had a loss. How inappropriate and scary for you!! I had someone do same thing when I was pregnant with my first, telling me not to get too comfortable because she lost one. I ended up losing that son at 16 weeks (pregnant). 20 years later, I still think about how wrong it was for her to have ever said. Good for you for sticking up for yourself! I wish I would’ve said more and always try to be super positive around pregnant people!

My favourite podcast yet - love Rachel and Kenzie and think mom cast should happen again! Also, as a fellow hyperemesis Mum who is 27 weeks through her second, miserable HG pregnancy, I couldn't identify with Kenzie more. I always thought I'd have three or four kids but honestly unsure now if I can ever do this again. People are so unfamiliar with it they just don't often understand how hellish the experience is. Well done for Kenzie making it through 2 pregnancies - it genuinely is a super human effort that comes with a huge mental toll and so much guilt for the 'neglect' of your first kid, your family, friends etc while you're ill. And as for body image after pregnancy, some personal grace is needed - think of it as the same as if you swapped bodies with someone else, you have to relearn all of your positivity because you don't fully know this different body yet. So hard to do! Thanks girls for being so inspiring, real and talking about these issues 👏

Sierra I struggled so much with body image after my second. I think a second pregnancy (and eventual third) changed my body more than my first! Honestly the voice that helped me the most through that was yours. I found you somewhere between my second and third and it’s been so healing to hear you talk about your body image. All this to say, I see you where you are. And I thank you for being that positive voice when I needed it ❤

It is incredibly validating to hear you 3 talk about the default parent/burnout/resentment stuff. I’m in the same situation where my husband is AMAZING and so involved and not only does what he’s asked but also takes initiative. But it’s STILL unbalanced just because of me being the mom and it’s something I struggle with so much. I feel guilty when I get resentful or frustrated because I feel like I have no right to feel those things when I have such a great partner.

Loving the birth/momma videos! Listening to Sierra’s Trader Joe’s story had me so angry for what happened to her and gave me flashbacks to a similar situation I experienced with my 2 year old son. The story- our family had suffered an extremely traumatic event a few weeks prior so being out in public was already scary for me. A woman in her 60’s came up to me while my son was in the shopping cart and said “he’s so friendly” while waving. Thought nothing of it, said “yep!” and moved on. Got to the check out and the same lady came running up to me saying “you need to be more careful! Your son can be stolen at any moment. You’re not paying attention to him!” I felt flustered and scared that she was going to try and take him. I started yelling “I GOT IT, THANK YOU!” while putting my hand out in a “stop” motion. I legit paid and ran out of the store. Threw everything into the car as quick as possible and sobbed in the parking lot.

I think what’s hardest about setting boundaries with parents (if you had decent parents) is that when they were in your shoes, with a new baby, they did everything they could to be the best parents for you, and they are trying to share what was helpful for them as new parents.

15:53 this hit my heart so hard. Honestly the way your mom heard your request and instead of fighting you or undermining you or making you feel like what you said was overrated (regardless of its legitimacy) means everything. I think the biggest part that people forget (of older generations specifically) is that when it’s new to you and you’re trying to figure it out and it’s the biggest life change you’ve gone through so far, so much unknown and you’re scared and they hear you and respect what you’re saying -when you’re as vulnerable as you are - is the most impactful thing you can do ❤❤❤❤❤❤

We had our baby girl a couple of years back during a high RSV and covid outbreak and we had family members literally walk out over being asked to wear a mask if they were holding her. Oh my goodness. I’m a 50 year old grandmother of a 7 year old girl and a 4 year old boy ( who is on the spectrum), and I have found myself as an almost full time grandmother. My husband ( grandpa) is so supportive, but I JUST had to have a talk with him how overwhelmed I’m feeling. I have been on full time grandma duty for 2 months ( this time around) and it took me those two months of getting worn down and feeling resentful, before I finally got through to him that I am Mary Poppins for the days and nights until I’m not! He just called me from work today and ask what days this coming week would work for me for him to take a half day of work and come home to give me a break. We have been married for 25 years and I can honestly say this is huge, and makes my heart so happy that he is listening to me, understanding me, and is thinking about a plan to help out. So I’d love to let you ladies know that your wonderful husbands will get even more wonderful as you grow together as a couple, as parents, and then grandparents. ❤

I’ve had OCD my entire life but didn’t know/wasn’t diagnosed correctly until after I gave birth to my daughter. I thought the intrusive thoughts I’ve dealt with my entire life were normal (lol SIKE) but after having intrusive thoughts about my sweet baby girl I knew I needed help. I wasn’t able to hold my daughter near a microwave, kitchen knives, or the CLOSED door to the basement for months. I started believing that my little family that I’ve always dreamed of would be better off without me. I felt that someone who has these violent thoughts should not be around children. When I told my OBGYN physician I sobbed and said “Please don’t take my baby away.” All she did was hold my hand and say “I am so glad you told me.” I immediately was given a prescription and recommendations for psychiatrists and counselors. PLEASE TELL SOMEONE IF YOU START TO EXPERIENCE POSTPARTUM MENTAL ILLNESS. It is SO common and your support people want to help you 💙

But at 3 months my son had his first seizure, and later was diagnosed with epilepsy caused by a rare genetic mutation (SCN8A), and ever since my anxiety has been nonstop. Becoming a mom to a disabled child has totally flipped every expectation I had about motherhood. It can be really, really difficult, but it’s still so special and amazing to get to watch this little guy grow at his own pace ❤ just hard because a lot of those things that I expected would get easier in time (like leaving him with relatives for a date night or weekend away) still haven’t for us

Wow so relatable! Loved the answer to the first question about setting boundaries with family / friends. I love the way it was articulated that those first few weeks of being with your newborn you are learning all about their little personality and it is such a sacred time for you and your partner and your baby! My parents / in laws are going to have a very hard time understanding that when I tell them something similar that those first few days / weeks with your newborn are incredibly intimate and the idea of having to host people and be in such a vulnerable state is incredibly overwhelming and anxiety inducing. I also do not want anyone at the hospital other than my husband and I don't think my mom is going to like hearing that at all, but setting boundaries early on is so important. Thank you for sharing.

I’m 43 and have 5 kids. My oldest is 24 and youngest is 13, and I still have these intrusive ”post partum anxiety” kind of thoughts over my kids. And I also still struggle with after kids body image. My skin is so thin, thanks to EDS, that I still have tiger stripes over my belly. I guess they do not always eventually fade away 😅 Parenting is hard but worth every cry and sleepless night❤ You all are so awesome parents❤❤❤

I’m 6 months PP and am also a confident plus size woman. I LOVED my body when pregnant and it is easy to be frustrated with how things fit. I mainly focus on how strong I’ve become holding my daughter all day. I appreciate my flexibility and being able to sit on the ground to play. I love how I can pick up my daughter and dance around the kitchen to make her laugh. My widened hips are perfect for picking her up as we make dinner. I’m so blessed by my body and what it can do for myself and my baby and focus on that first. Loved this podcast, would be great for a part two in a couple months!

I dont want to be a mother. I dont want children at all. I actually gave a child up for adoption and have since gotten a sterilization so I wont get pregnant again. But this episode and listening to you all talk about motherhood was great. I did not feel like i am missing something or that it changes my opinion or that i regret what i did. It made me realize that YOU are meant to be mothers and I am not. You are all glowing and great moms ❤

My experience was similar to Kenzie’s. I feel that I totally lost myself in pregnancy and postpartum with my first born. We were also right in the middle of COVID lockdown when he was born so I was isolated and terrified. I felt like I got to reclaim a lot of that with my second which helped me find myself again 💕

Not a mom, but I loved this episode so much! I love you ladies so much! The whole team is filled with amazing ladies! I’m excited for riayn and Paloma to come back but I’m also really loving things episodes and getting different perspectives. I especially love when yall talked about being the default parent because that’s so true, everything a mom does is expected and when a dad does those same things it’s celebrated like it’s revolutionary lol. Anyways uhh I kind of went off the rails with this comment 😂
