This is a comparison between the Sig / GSG "1911" to the Colt "1911" in 22.lr. I discuss all major parts and differences in general to give you a no "BS" viewpoint that will help you make a decision on which pistol suits you better. If you want to see how both pistols perform, please take a look at my individual Colt and Sig 1911 reviews:
Sig "1911" 22.lr review: • Sig Sauer "1911" 22.lr...
Colt "1911" 22.lr review: • Colt 1911 "Rail Gun" 2...

Regarding the recent SigSauer/GSG 1911-22lr from 2019+ the plastic guide rod is gone, it's been replaced by a full sized metal one (looks the same as the plastic one). Also the slide release has been upgraded, there is a steel pin injected into the aluminum slide so there should no longer be problems with it being non functional over time. I just got back from range and I can tell that the trigger is a master piece, overall no malfunctions on HV ammo, haven't tried the regular one tho.

****Update****....there are magazine upgrades available for the Colt models also. With the mods you can get 16 rounds in a magazine. search "Colt 1911 magazine Upgrades" on youtube. I just got a Colt model with a couple Xtra mag's. 3x16 + 1 in chamber = 49 rounds.

Nice fair evaluation. Once you consider cost Sig or GSG is very favorable. Also the myth of about the GSG or Sig pot metal is total ignorance on the part of the readers. Just do a search on Google for 30,000 rounds in a GSG and see how little wear it has for that number. How many people put 10,000 rounds through a weapon let alone 30,000? That review about 30,000 was some years ago and I expect to see another once they hit 50,000 rounds...

i just ordered the colt gold trophy. i looked everywhere on forums on both. all the gsg's and sigs reports they break around 4000rnds. then after the replacement some other parts would break sortly after and get replaced as the round count climbed to 47k it was a crazy list of parts replaced. the Walther colt has almost no complaints and most the complaints are answered with a 10$ part, a better recoil spring that allows cheap standard velocity ammo to work and even more ammo's to select from if not all. also the Walther/colt mags are way more expensive then they should ever be. the gsg seems to have had more people who have gotten it and detailed the life of the gun as the round count climbed. i still can't find many round counts for the walther just a few competition shooters who have gotten to 10k without any problems or signs. but no one has documented anything.

I've just joined my local gun club in WA, so when I'm eventually allowed to buy a firearm in around 8 months time, I'll be looking closely at the Sig or the GSG 1911. They're both significantly cheaper than the Colt or any of the other derivatives. My son always goes to work with his best pal Mr Glock, and he's pushing me towards a Glock 44. It looks cheap, weighs nothing and seems to have an overabundance of polymer. My preference is for an all-metal, or mostly metal gun with a bit of weight to it, and there's a few around reasonably priced, one of them being the Sig. This video has made my decision that little bit easier, so thanks for posting. I spend a lot of time on KZfaq looking at the various offerings out there, even though it will be some time before I can get one legally in my hot little hands. I'm also looking at the Ruger MK4, the Browning Camper, and the Smith Victory. No short list as yet, just going through the motions...

I have a friend that "HAD" a Sig, I let him shoot my Colt and he walked out of the range into the gun store part and traded it in on a Colt 1911 Government model 22LR just like mine. I shot his Sig and it felt like a toy compared to the Colt. The Colt has more of the feel of a 1911 where the Sig just don't have the heft. Both are great guns but the Sig would be fine if you never fired the Colt. I'm talking out of the box guns with "NO" modification at all. My friend and myself actually liked the Colt 12 round magazines better then the Sigs. No reason except they just seemed smoother and just felt nice going in or dropping. I can't say the Colt is better, But I can say if you do have a Sig, Do "NOT" shoot a Colt, Especially if your a 1911 45 person.

I have over 2,500 rounds through my Colt with no problems at all, The barrel still looks like new inside. It is still very accurate and I mostly shoot Winchester M or CCI Mini-Mags, Abut 500 rounds were American Eagle. I don't think there will be any problem at all with this barrel on my Colt, Both are good guns but I prefer the Colt because it just feels way better then Jack's Sig did.

Just got my GSG 1911 ad ops and love it. I'm not quite sure if the guide rod in mine was plastic, it seems to heavy to be plastic and it tings pretty good against metal. Although it's not magnetic doesn't mean it's not alloy either but doesn't matter cuz I immediately ordered new guide rod system from Tandemkross but the bushing on the first one I ordered was very tight on the slide and was deemed out of spec. Currently waiting for my replacement kit but I'm really diggin this GSG.

I own the GSG 1911 22 and the only complaint i have is the considerable wear in the area of the slide stop notch. I have about 3000/4000 rounds through it and often have to dress the peening in that area. STI has sent me a replacement slide but i wish it were made from a harder material, maybe they will address this. I'm using a fitted barrel bushing and tapered barrel thread protector (it's a tight lock-up), a 30% stronger slide spring, 4lb. trigger with almost no creep. disabled magazine release safety, disabled grip safety and a polished trigger group. This is a great shooting 1911 and very accurate. I only hope they will make a stronger slide material, or put a steel insert in the area around the slide stop notch...

Got my Colt rail gun last week and I'm quite happy with it. Superstore has it at $299. Really wanted the FDE finish but those are rarely in stock it seems and I was done waiting. Magazines are still priced too high, and I felt the owner's manual lacked details about the gun itself, focusing on safety. Safety is paramount but more details on the gun would be better. Here's a tip for Colt owners that's not in the book: When breaking the gun down, after you remove the spring, align the slide notch with the slide stop. Grab the muzzle with the barrel pointing down and give the gun a little shake. You'll probably hear the spring guide drop down. Now you can press the slide stop out with your fingertip instead of using a tool as the book instructs you to do. Making the spring guide drop away from the slide stop lets it pop right out, otherwise it's going to be a struggle. I wonder how many have scratched their new Colt by following the manual? I practiced until I can do it with my eyes closed. 😅 I'll suggest a light oiling before hitting the range the first time. Mine was pretty dry but had black grease on the spring guide and mag well. One last quirk... Seems odd to me that the thumb safety only engages with the hammer back. Am I wrong? Happy, happy beer can hunter! No regrets.

It seems the Colt will eat everything but the Sig has the better trigger OTB. The Colt is a sturdier pistol but the sig breaks down a little easier. I would think that if you're going to be in all kinds of weather firing either one of these pistols the Colt would probably have the reliability edge. I'm the type that will go to the range twice a month and fire about 100 - 150 rds of 22 at a time. So, price is not that much of an issue. I also have a Springfield 45 Mil Spec and usually fire about 50 rds at the same outing. It boils down to personal preference because BOTH appear to be well made. My preference is the Colt (Walther)Ozzie gave out a treasure trove of info and thank you so much, excellent job!

Outstanding review of two very nice "practice-time" 1911's--that pretty much sums it up for me in that I use my GSG 1911-22 to train "more *affordably*" with .22lr vs. .45ACP round...Even though the .22lr ammo market is going through an entirely unprecedented period now as supply/demand/price all are now fluidly volatile whereby any given day both supply and price are subject to change...Walmart, for example, is prone to seeing shoppers turn out early AM after delivery trucks arrive subsequently grabbing (*hoarding*) may be a better term in these cases) bricks in volume as it flies off the shelves as quickly as it's stocked...Nevertheless, when .22lr ammo can be had the GSG or equivalent as seen in this very good review can be a fabulous training tool or just all-around fun plinking gun.

Thanks for the review! I've been eying a 1911 in .22 for my first handgun. I just recently joined a range and my orientation was done with a GSG. Nice trigger and the heft was decent. I was told if I got one to avoid using plain lead rounds and hollow points. As thay were well known to cause a majority of failures (FTE, FTF, as well as stovepiping). Probably going to still be a little while before I can get one anyways...

Sig arms in regards to the .22 caliber is the pits. I have had several of them and was quite disappointed in all of them. Due to the quality of the name Sig Arms I was delighted when they made their .22 handguns. However the delight soon faded to aggravation. There is simply no excuse for these guns to perform as sadly as they do perform and it should not be up to use the consumer to rework them so they will function. With the cost and problems of obtaining .22 ammo good CCI is almost impossible to obtain and if you can it will be quite high in price. So in our new world a crappy gun is but a crappy gun. Now the colt is a joy to shoot, and it runs perfectly. I have no complaints with it as of yet and you can use any ammo that you might happen to find at an economical price and even the bulk ammo will hold 1.25 to 2 inch groups at 25 yards. I find all these reviews to be amusing, as everyone is simply afraid to tell it like it is, and there is no excuse for a crappy gun like the Sigs to be even considered, as for them to work you will have to polish, fiddle, and even then they are not perfectly reliable with available ammo. The colt is reliable, and runs perfectly.
@ozziereviews
@ozziereviews 10 жыл бұрын
I obviously own both… I did the individual review of both also and I had no major issues with the Sig, I found it's trigger better than the Colt but as for the slide, I mention it here too, so I don't give people BS nor am I afraid to say it how it is from my actual usage. If the Sig had screwed up round after round, I can assure you I'd be one of the first to mention it… However it works well for me...

***** You will not find me to be as the normal person who will not speak their mind. I have had two 19ll Sig .22 pistols. Both malfunctions greatly with CCI ammo which is the best we can obtain to use for function and reliability. I have never understood why some will defend a maker or any product when problems do exist with such product, perhaps it is a sign of our times when all things are simply accepted as normal. For myself out of the box any product be it a pistol or whatever should function as designed or it is not even a consideration. Folks today cannot get CCI, and if they can it will be purchased at an extraordinary price and the amount will be limited. So in this new realm of reality I recommend the colt over a great many others as yes a well made pistol and one that will actually function right out of the box. When one pistol has function problems out of the box I fail to see why it would even be considered. But that is me, one who will call it like it is. I was greatly disappointed in Sig and their .22 pistols both this 1911 and the Mosquito. Sig center fire pistols are one of the best in the world, so it was a big let down with these pistols in .22 caliber. What I am saying is it does not have to be as that Colt is the Cats Meow.......

You make your preference known, so instead of comparing weights, measurements accurately to give the listener facts, you offer your opinion biased one way!

What parts did you replace in the colt to lighten & improve trigger?
@ozziereviews
@ozziereviews 6 жыл бұрын
sear and disconnector along with the mainspring
@goiter26
@goiter26 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ozzie great review as usually I replaced both the sear and disconnector with Wilson combat billet proof parts the trigger weight is still Very heavy as 7.5pounds it only reduced the trigger pull by 1pound can you recommend a main spring or anything else to reduce the pull a lot. I was hoping close to 4-5pounds

Hey I'm not a contract shooter, but I"m in the process of doing my h license. are you legally allowed to use pistols when you are on a job? I know farmers in qld can have them, but rec shooters can only use them at the range, so where does that leave you?

Colt invented the 1911 so ill stick with the original designer
@GIJeaux1
@GIJeaux1 7 жыл бұрын
Except, the Colt is made by Walther not Colt so, it has nothing to do with the Colt design. Also, the M1911 Colt pistol was designed by John Browning not Sam Colt. Colt had been dead for over 40 years when John Browning designed the M1911.

Using cast zinc aka pot metal for an important moving part is nonsense, it's soft and it breaks easily. Cheap, avoid.

The amount of sintered alloy makes me cringe. I bet if you actually tried to bend the slide on the sig, you could with bare hands.
@ozziereviews
@ozziereviews 8 жыл бұрын
+whole our I can't do that with my bare hands, it's not that weak, but I would have preferred to have a proper metal slide with some cut outs to make it lightweight enough to cycle the 22.lr
