Ammo and velocity test. 5" barrel vs 3.8" barrel. Does it make that much of a difference?

I keep wanting to buy another 10mm but there so many good choices right now. And it help if more ammo was loaded hotter, it's not as if there are antique 10mm guns they are protecting by keeping it down loaded.

Definitely several choices out there now days. Underwood ammo is a great ammo choice and it's definitely not down loaded.

It's a shame when the big ammo companies do this. It get's worse when guntuber's blame the caliber and not the ammo manufacturer for the poor performance. I am thankfull this one knows the difference.

Got the Comp about 5 months ago and I love it! It’s my EDC while my 9mm sits in my safe. On a sidenote, I have some of grizzlies 10 mm, 200 grain hollow points, I don’t think I realize that they had a 220 grain solid point. I have some 10 mm 220 grain but it’s from Buffalo Bore.

@@9MilRidge woods, self defense, whatever long as you can control it and stay on target which seems to be a lot easier with the reduced recoil, if 10mm is good for bears its good enough for criminals 🤣 my only issue is 10mm is not as plentiful in lower 48 vs alaska where I spent a year living last year, but prob where you live 10mm is plentiful as 9mm

@@9MilRidge thats my only issue with 10mm, fantastic ballistics and power but for shtf situation 9mm is better simply because its more commonly found worldwide and easy to scavage, but for recreation use, camping, hiking, daily edc 10mm is king vs .45 or 9mm, more capacity than .357 yet same level of power

I love 10 mm. I hope your Caldwell still works or at least suffered a fast death. I bought a 4th Gen Glock 20 & tricked it out with a threaded 5.2" barrel, -3.0 Edge connector with polished trigger parts for a 3.5 lb. trigger pull, & Talon grips. I also bought a Springfield Ronin Elite 1911 in 10 mm & this is most most accurate pistol with the 1911 trigger and fiber optic sights. But the felt recoil is more on the 1911 even though it is another 10 oz. heavier than the Glock 20. I think the grip angle of the Glock with the wider polymer grip soaks up more recoil. Both are great guns. Thanks for the review!
@9MilRidge6 ай бұрын
Gotta love the 10mm round! I agree I do think the polymer framed 10mm's soak up the recoil better. I tested my chronograph after the video and it still worked fine. Just a flesh wound. Thanks for the comment! Happy New Year!

Appreciate the video. Thank you How would you say the accuracy was with the comp compared to the full size?
@9MilRidge6 ай бұрын
For the most part pretty equal but the full size is a bit more accurate for slower shots because of the longer sight radius and barrel. It's not a huge difference though. The Comp is more accurate for follow up shots because of the reduced recoil.

Man thanks for this, awesome content. Im a new 2A participator lol , have an EDC 9mm but good gosh , i didnt expect to be bombarded with "thats not a good home defense weapon! You need a full size too!!" Its hard to tell when its salesman trying sell and sincerity, as new 2A participator anyways. It felt like salesman stuff to me bc they pushing a full size 9mm. Can someone with more experience ( probably everybody) please tell me if my instincts are correct in that IF Im going to need a scond firearm for home defense wouldnt it be wiser to get a larger caliber? Maybe because im planning on lotsa National Forest trips it makes more sense to get a 10mm and not 9mm , like I already have... being a Lifelong gear gear ( just sold my 03- 754hp Cobra, to fund my new adventures guess for now no more hot rods for me) I should've expect the firearm industry to be similar to the Horsepower industry, tons of opinions and wvwn more with the mentality of sell sell sell , even if it isnt whats best for the buyer. So, I am leaning towards a 10mm for my full size and because I already have a Wilson combat P365 X, im thining stick with Sig. Gotta see how it feels in my hands ( i have suoer tine tiny hands tho, like umpa size hands) 😅 last part was sarcasm..
@9MilRidge4 ай бұрын
Honestly your P365XL is perfect for edc and home defense. But I think of caliber options as tools. So 9mm for edc or home defense, 10mm for woods defense or it can be used for home defense. Some people carry 10mm for their edc but I don't think that's the best option just because follow up shots will be slower because of the recoil. It's like having a truck instead of a car, you need a car to get you around the majority of the time, but sometimes you just need the extra power to hall something or do some offroading to explore the back country. So for me I like to carry a 365xl or a 365 XMacro most of the time but for the woods definitely love the 10mm because of the penetration power, the capacity it offers and it's just not too heavy to pack around compared to a old school revolver.

Does anyone know if there’s any truth to the Sig comp being able to fire 45 caliber rounds? A very informative video, liked and subscribe!
@gabethomas81235 ай бұрын
I think you mean .40 rounds. Most modern 10s will cycle .40s&w since it’s the same diameter as 10. The cartridge is virtually the same, just shorter with less powder. .45 wouldn’t fit in the barrel of a 10.
@easttexascountryboy4872Ай бұрын
@@gabethomas8123 I've shot 40's out of my X-TEN full size and my X-TEN Comp. Just to see of course. There's really only three manufacturers putting out decent "full power" 10mm ammo, Sig of course, Blazer 180gr and Aguilla. Everything else is just watered down 40cal in disguise.

People keep regurgitating about the so called issue… It was from the 1st to 2nd year batch is 2014 and 2015 FCU units and it has the old fat plastic trigger… If you don’t have a old fat plastic trigger then you’re 1000% OK.

As a ballistics expert for more than 25+ years. There’s truly no difference and the gauged difference is negligible. Your target will also not tell the difference 🙂

I call do-over. Your chronograph was malfunctioning... run the comparrison test again. Flawed results due to faulty equipment. I just cannot accept that anyone will get virtually the same velocity from a 5" barrel compared to a 3.8" barrel utilizing the same ammo on the same day at the same place and virtually the same time under identical atmosheric shooting conditions. And what about all those identical velocity readings between shots... your chronograph was clearly off. Using a 1.2" shorter barrel, I'd be skeptical of your results if the variance was any less than 100 FPS, and that's ignoring the compensator factor. On a separate note, the new X-Ten Comp is the same height and width, and only a mere 0.75" shorter in length than the full-size original X-Ten 5". It's not a compact-sized pistol at all. When I think compact pistol, I think S&W M&P 40 M2.0 4" Compact, and Glock 23. Pistols with 13-round flush-fit .40 caliber magazines. Perfectly sized EDC CCW pistols. Or else the SA XDm Elite 10mm OSP 3.8" Compact, and Glock 29. Thank you. Good things! 👍
