So I finally got the inverter I wanted. Let's take a look at what's in the box and under the lid

You can't beat Sigineer low frequency, transformer based inverter chargers for performance and reliability. They're so much better than all of the cheap, short lived, high frequency junk inverters that everyone else is selling.

Interesting things about you say about the fans, motor on the back is the direction of flow (even the shape of the thins) , So this is a split phase 7kw per leg inverter (don't expect it to do 15kw off one leg without melting stuff) I seen others wire directly off the circuit breaker instead of the junction blocks so not to overheat

correct, each leg would do about 7kw max. i'll demo some test during future videos

Those are DIN rail breakers and are much more common than what North America uses in our walls. They are the standard for all equipment and machines, as well as ROW electrical panels.

Those are dc breakers with arc protection built in which is what differentiates them from ac breakers. DC arcs dramatically when it makes and breaks contact. Arc arrestors are necessary and these are the one's designed to do that.

4Awg is rated for 135amps when used as chassis wire like it is there. When used as a chassis wire it's current rating is higher than for use as a power transmission wire. Because it's used in open air it will dissipate heat more efficiently.

At 15kw using 48 volt battery voltage, you'd need the batteries to provide 312 amps. Which means you'd need a whole heck of a lot of battery. (312 amps x 48 volts = approx 15,000). Which means you'd need at least 350 awg wire to conduct that amperage. 350 awg is nearly an inch in diameter. So in essence 15 kw inverter is for industrial use and not intended for home usage. Not sure you realize any of this. At today's prices the wire alone will cost as much as the inverter. Most homes will run fine on 5 kw or less, depending on devices used. If you are off grid you will probably want a gas or propane hot water heater and stove as well as clothes dryer if you need or want those items. I can run my entire home for around 2200 watts including 4 heat pumps (inverter type). Bigger isn't always better. Unused inverter will be less efficient than smaller one being fully used. I cannot imagine the price of batteries you'd need to fully use this beast but it's got to be near $10,000 range using build it yourself components.
@BobbyBleacher
@BobbyBleacher Жыл бұрын
I used tesla batteries with 4/0 wire for the necessary amperage and lived with it for many years supplying power for the entire home, charged by solar every day. It's extremely feasible to set it all up. Lots of satisfaction being self-sufficient, too. Mine was the 12kW version.

I wish they made inverter/chargers that could be phased locked together, so that instead of 1 large inverter/charger like this, you could have 2 smaller ones each feeding a separate 120V branch, but phased locked 180 degrees so that the 240V stuff would work well too. So for example, a pair of 7.5 KW inverter/chargers instead of a single 15KW inverter/charger. I suspect it can be done so why don't they do it? It would be easier to move 2 smaller inverters around, and they could either share a large battery bank or have their own smaller battery banks. Many more options with that setup.

you need to flip out thoses single breakers for a single double breaker. its very bad if 1 triples as in the usa or canada we use 2 legs of 120v aka 120/240 split phase. double single breakers tap on leg 1 and leg 2 to get 240v. each leg is still separate of 120v when running back to the appliance. so if 1 pops you need both to trip or you can burn out your appliances. can even cause your appliance to back feed from a simple trip and burn out your inverter but save your appliance.... or burn both up... My guess the inverter will fail first

Joel, when I was installing my battleborns to inverter I spoke to battleborn. They advised me to wait untill they sent me free of charge a (csl-500 unit) currant surge limiter device which they told me to install between the batt. bank and inverter. It's purpose as they explained it to me was to protect the BMS systems from the initial high draw upon turning on inverter (while capacitors charged up). They said without it I could have batt cut out issues from BMS, or worse batt and BMS damage. I waited and installed the unit as they suggested and everything has worked flawlessly for 1-1/2 years now. I saw your comment and immediatly thought of this. Hope it's useful to ya.

Mine is yet to be unpacked. Was shipped mid summer this past year. Still working on my bank of batteries. Im going to be using Nissan Leaf Modules. I have 90 usable ones at this time. I'll be making them into 48 volt packs and want to charge the batteries from the inverter itself. Then go into generator mode when power goes out or to manually switch off grid at night then back on in the morning.

@onegreenev
@onegreenev 3 жыл бұрын
@@iandadschorn4336 I’m still hunting for a simple but reliable BMS built somewhere other than China. Those are not overly user friendly. Our solar was put up before microinverters. I do however recommend micro inverters for solar. One nice thing is if you know the size system you want you can buy the cabling and rails and add a panel and inverter at a time as your funds allow. My next option is using new micro inverters and stringing two or three older panels together per micro inverters so you can take advantage of the cheap panels. Micro inverters are much better than the large inverters hands down. I’m going to buy a small high frequency inverter for my power wall. Hoping to make it an all in one unit.

2x 10AWG wires is almost exactly equivalent to a 7 AWG wire. It's minus 3 gauge, the entire AWG system was based on the idea copper wire is mandrel drawn from a solid copper billet which is 0 Gauge. Each size mandrel was 1 Gauge and the billet was drawn that number of times. This was setup for solid wire, so for stranded wire the cross sectional area of copper is the same but the bundle of strands will increase with strand count so there *should*/has-to-be the same amount of copper in a solid 2 awg wire as a million strand 2 awg wire. This is about 5 minutes of research so learn and get better please!
@kingrpriddick
@kingrpriddick 4 жыл бұрын
@Ray N American wire gauge was based off of the number of times the raw material was drawn down through a die to make it smaller, so the more times the wire was made smaller the smaller it is and the less electrical current it can pass without melting.
@kingrpriddick
@kingrpriddick 4 жыл бұрын
@Ray N another uncommon piece of knowledge about American wire gauge, the gauge defines the cross-sectional area of a wire not the diameter. So a stranded wire will have a larger diameter to fit the same cross-sectional area of metal. And American wire gauge tells you nothing about the thickness of the sheathing or anything else around the metal.
@aday1637

David James Hm, interesting Wait here So let’s see this like this GRID IN======>>>> Transfer switch (1 or 2) ====>>> panel 1= grid, 2= Connected to this inverters output Solar=====>>>MPPT====>>48V lithium batteries======>> To the inverter And then, a generator connecting to the Inverters input... Is this setup possible? So when the grid goes out we can MANUALLY transfer it over to the inverter, and if there is no sun or the batteries are dead, we can start the generator which will charge the batteries and also provide the home with electricity....
@davidjames1684
@davidjames1684 4 жыл бұрын
I would feel more comfortable using a manual transfer switch yes. Once disconnected from the grid, you can do just about anything with generators, idling cars (to charge batteries), solar panels.... The "worst" (in my opinion) are those solar systems that are "dead" when the grid goes down. What a waste. Also, how would you know if most people that buy this unit use it with solar? Is that an assumption?

Wattage is a volts x amps. If you can supply 48v at 312.5 amps you have an input wattage of 15,000 watts = 15kw. 48 x 312.5 = 15,000 That's with perfect efficiency of course so realistically probably would draw closer to 330 or more depending on waste heat. How the hell will that handle 1000A peak input when the 15KW units handles a brief surge of 40KW? 2) I wish the display would show many things at the same time rather than having to cycle thru them. 3) Why have it only 48V input? Why not something higher such as 60V? I have a 48V DC input UPS that is only 1600 watts output so why would they also use 48V DC input for 15KW surging at way more than that? 60V or even 72V might be better. 72V can be felt if you touch it but is not normally deadly.
