Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary Lens. Why I chose it for my Aviation Photography. With real-world example photographs
I am an outdoor and aviation photographer. And needed a new lens to work on both my full frame and cropped sensor canons.
Keep watching and Ill share my reasoning behind purchasing this lens. But don’t decide if its what you need until you have seen all the Images.

Paul Hudson. Also depends what your viewing them on. They look fine on my iMac at home. I have another video 12 months on with this lens, and a couple on garden bird photography using the same of you’re interested. And thanks for the subscription!

@@BrianNorthmorePhotography brilliant 😂 my black lab got caught on my astrophotography rig once and almost brought it crashing down, and we’re talking an EQ6 mount which weighs near 20kg! I bought this lens last week, going to have a play with it over the next two weeks before taking it to RIAT!

@@metallicaKSA oh yes I have nearly had a few tripods knocked over! Especially when I’m filming videos! Good Luck at RIAT. I’m thinking about spending 3-4 days there next year.

I Bought this lens over a year ago now for my Nikon D5100 to use for air shows but haven't yet of course because of the lockdowns! I know that the Optical stabilisation setting number 2 is for panning horizontal (aircraft flying by) does 2 also work for aircraft going vertical, or do you have to use setting 1 for jets going vertical do you know?

T I have to be honest and say that I have never done any test to put both modes to the test. But I have always used mode 1, the simple theory being like you have said aircraft don’t just move horizontally. You can be moving the lens in all planes at the same time.

Brian, do you have any videos in regards to focusing. I have a Canon T7, long distance shots with the 300 mm lens looks in good focus, however when cropping or magnifying the images they are slightly fuzzy.

Paul Hudson Sorry Paul no I don’t. Maybe I should! Strange thing I ran a 1/2 day workshop a few weeks ago just on focusing. You need to rule out a few things. I would mount the camera on a good a sturdy tripod and take a few pictures at different focal lengths. Use single point focus. Use a self timer or cable release. And good subject with crisp sharp edges and texture. Then try again. Slightly fuzzy covers a multitude of sins, from camera shake, to needing lens calibration. Eliminate the basic ones first and go from there. Hope this helps and gives you a starting point.

Do you think that the 150-600 would work well on the canon T7?

Hi, Yes I don’t see why not. I’m guessing you are shooting aviation? It would certainly give you huge reach on a crop sensor camera. Depending on where and how you intend to shoot you may find a 400mm lens more manageable it would still give you full frame equivalent of 640mm. But the 150-600 is great value for money. Just consider what, where and how you are going to use this lens. Good luck!

Yes this would also be a good option. You would probably find it a little more versatile than the 150-600, due to the crop sensor.

No Brian, I haven’t. My current system does everything I ask if it and need it to. More than that would be waste of money I. I probably will one day but that will be in the pursuit of a lighter system for landscape photography

@@BrianNorthmorePhotography Most of my glass is currently EF still. I am a late adopter into the mirrorless system. I bought the EOS-R on a decent discount earlier this year from Canon Direct to try out the mirrorless system. The EVF was a lil tough getting use to for me. A job required me to have a camera with 2 card slots so I had a choice. Buy further into the RF system with the R6 or R5 or stick with DSLR's and buy a 5DS, 5DMKIV or 1DX II/III. I opted to go for the R5.. but I do find myself still eyeing EF glass considering the RF versions are much more pricey. I want a nice super zoom and looking more for a "bang for my buck" sorta thing. I think this Sigma 150-600 "c" is still a great buy at $900 even using with my R5.
