Very informative video! I’m still a little confused about the custom settings. I mostly do wildlife photography (wildlife that moves fast). I just bought the sigma 150-600mm so not too familiar with kit yet. Im still trying to figure out the settings for the type of photography i do. I mostly use aperture priority and manual modes. Would you suggest that I use custom settings for that type of photography and if so which custom setting? I have a Nikon d3300 but I’m about to receive my Nikon d750…I would imagine the settings would be different. Thank you!

@firstchoicephoto

Keep it on anytime the lens may be moving. Only time that you "may" want to shut it off is when using it on long exposures like 2 seconds or longer on a tripod. But it needs to be perfectly still before I would do that.

On a long telephoto speed your shooting at is more important than stabilization. Stabilization turned on for some long telephotos can create a problem when trying to achieve a sharp photo. There are some excellent articles on the internet about this subject and I suggest you search and read some of them, they may answer the questions you may have about this.

Fresh owner of the lens here. Very useful video. Thanks for that. AF/MO is a bit weird to me. Both allow auto focus to work, but MO additionally allows for manual override with focus ring. What I found on the Internet so far, if lens have MO as separate mode, focus ring should not be touched when lens is in AF mode and is actively focusing, because I'm risking lens damage this way. So the question here is, is there any downside to have it always in MO mode. is auto focus less reliable in this mode? Other topic I was looking for answers - are there any custom functions applied by default on a new lens, but I couldn't find any info about it. I will probably buy dock anyway, so not that important.
@firstchoicephoto
@firstchoicephoto 7 ай бұрын
I would leave it on MO setting. The only draw back is if you adjusted it after it focused. Custom settings come as blank if the lens is new. This talks about the dock kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i7qBmMdnx8ycmas.html
@bootowalny
@bootowalny 7 ай бұрын
@@firstchoicephoto Yes, but adjusting after it focused is also possible in AF mode. This mode does not lock, or disconnects focus ring in any way. So this drawback is in both modes. That is why it was confusing to me. If indeed it's possible to damage lens by using focus ring during focusing in AF mode, then it's a nobrainer to use MO mode exclusively.

Whenever I have used any large camera always used a bracket that attached to the camera and the lens tripod mounts, then the bracket was secured to the tripod. Too much weight hanging off the front of any camera for me. A $10 part to save a $10k body and $1.5k lens is a good investment in my mind.

About setting a foot on top of the lens - you are mistaken - first, if you are shooting, you don't look at the distance on the lens (what for??) , you only check in evf or screen if you have focus, and second - it is used as a handle to carry the camera. It makes a much of a sense
