Smiling! Thanks guys: I just spent my whole budget for my Amateur Radio/Ham Radio/Computers for the next 2 years or so buying the EG4 3000 and the EG4 48-volt battery to use as my radio and computers off grid to protect them from all the short and quick power outages. Supposed to be here tomorrow 2/27/24. My goal is to run the computers and radios all on this system off grid all the time, only charging the battery with the AIO EG4 3000. Most my radios run on 13.8 volt pulling about 23 amps on max output off my two 13.8 volt regulated 35-amp power supplies, only about 10 amps on SSB when talking on them. Two linear amplifiers at 2kw each and then some. The one amplifiers 2kw+ will surge at about 30 amps on 120 volts when first turned on charging the caps. The other runs on 240 V and this won't run it unless I rewire it to 120, or get a 2nd EG4 3000, but not in the budget for a while, it will have to stay on grid. The 120 volt amp power supply is 3930 volts DC on the tube plates is the power hog. I have a resistive load on the ac line to limit the surge the caps pull charging and then bypass it. 73 Ed K5EDD Celebrating 50 years of Amateur Radio.

It really seems like. you guys are dodging the implied questions. Examples: 1. Correct battery start-up sequence. The inverter manual is just going to say the order of power sources to be energized. To me, the implied question is when do you hit the on/off button, when do you close the circuit breaker, and how do you sequence between multiple batteries. Last time I checked this wasn't addressed in the manual. 2. DIP switches. The confusion likely stems from some of the early units being mis-labeled or installed backwards. 3. Wire sizing. You can at least say that the minimum size needs to be sufficient to carry 100A, the rated capacity of the unit and what the BMS protects at. Likewise it is fair to say that if you have an EG4 cabinet with 3 or 6 how should a user go about selecting the wire size? Do they need to size it for 300/600A? Gave up after that... but you had three great opportunities to help people understand something rather than just share a bunch of "it depends." I wish you luck in improving for the next round; this type of interaction is needed and it is worth a lot compared to fielding support calls.

Do you have any wiring diagrams or videos for connecting multiple battery racks together? Do you wire the second rack to the first rack or just join them on an external busbar? And do you connect the 7th battery to the 6th battery via comm? Common sense says yes but manuals dont specify.

Do the dip switches need to be set and comm cables need to be connected if NO monitoring software is being used? In other words are these thing only used to address individual batteries for the monitoring software? Before purchasing some Lifepower4 24V batteries in late 2022, I was told by Signature Solar Customer Service folks (twice) that you could connect them in series to make a 48V bank; you just couldn't do closed loop communication if you did that. The reason I went with the 24V version was to minimize initial cost by utilizing 24V inverters I already had, with an eye towards moving to a 48V inverter in the future and connecting the batteries in series. It's disappointing to now hear that you cannot connect them in series.

This is a very helpful video. However I attempted to contact your tech support line for parameters for programming my 12v EG4LL batteries but this applies to all batteries. The support rep knew less about these batteries than I did. For example my inverter (Xantrex) wants to know at what V should I begin re-charging batteries as they discharge? For hi battery cutout settings should I use absorbtion V on the spec sheet or some other value? This is in addition to the absorbtion value which is also an input. The support rep had no idea. It begs the issue of putting up videos of setting up a closed loop communication to verious different popular inverters. In my case it is a freedom 3012 that I use for home backup but it is very commonly used and popular in trailers and mobile homes. When batteries arrived the SOC varried between 47% and 90%. I isolated the batteries; leaving 3 shut down and turned on the 4th to let the onboard inverter charger top up each battery individually. The rep had no clue as to whether a 12v lead acid charger would do the job. He actually suggested buying a 48v charger for my 12v battery bank, probably because I mentionned that I had 4 of them connected together. I also have some confusion over the difference between LifePower batt. & EG4LL as you have videos on both types and I remain confused as to whether discussion items in you videos at times apply to only one or both these types. In my case as I understand it there is no communication hub available for the 12v EG4LL's. Is this a set it and forget it operation, or do I perodically have to charge/top up individual batteries to balance them even though I connect the 12v lines to the inverter on opposite ends of the battery bank? Do the green comm cables between batteries automatically take care of this? On my inverter I have an RJ port marked "mem". It is the only extra port. Can this be connected to make a closed loop with my batteries? Is there even a comm hub available for these batteries.?

Why did you design the EG4 12v 400ah server rack batteries to not be able to connect series and parallel? If you want to make a 24v 800ah battery bank by using four 12v batteries I'm being told you can't do it? I've never seen that lack of engineering in any other battery.

I'm mo expert here, but did the 4 12amp batteries all have their own BMS on each battery? Or is the 4 batteries hooked up to ONE BMS rhat manages them at the higher voltage of the series? This seems to be a distinction here. If I hook up 4 12v batteries in series and get 1 48v battery hooked up to a BMS that's one things, but connecting 4 12v BMS in series to make 48v seems like an issue.

I've asked the following question from Sig Solar and a couple other prominent u tube channels. ANY off grid system will require a generator as an integral pert of a 24/365 system. There has been a lot of mention of the dry contacts on the inverter to communicate with the generator. I've had a motor home for 5 years and the is nothing automatic about it! You have to insure the generator actually starts and given a warm up time BEFORE loading it. I would like to see a video showing specifically how these systems operate together - automatically - without you being there. I understand and agree that the EG4 stand alone charger is a better choice to act as a filter between the usually dirty A/C gen output feeding the inverter and the downstream loads., some which are sensitive to square wave A/C voltages. Having said that, it seems that in the future, either the inverter will incorporate this EG4 charger internally or just omit the internal charger from future products reducing costs. Please....produce a comprehensive video on this essential component in a complete system. Thanks in advance :)
