That's how I knew this would be a good game. Sigourney Weaver would never sign up to a pile of trash. I thought she was only in the DLC - so when the opening titles came up and her voice started talking, I creamed my pants! It was the perfect start to the game - a superb game at that.

@@jazzx251 I have to say, I was skeptical and not trusting my ears when I heard the opening narration. I was thinking "That's not Sigourney Weaver narrating, it's impossible.". Then I discovered that she actually did the voice-acting for Ellen Ripley. Mind. Blown.

Completely agree. And Weaver's part in the game was terrific - I nearly cried as Amanda forlornly touched the screen.

I'm just happy it worked, and in a way things went in alien isolation's favor, espically aliens colonial marines, it's almost like going on a world adventure for this rare bottle of wine, when you land your plane in front of a desert you go into this bar that has the win, upon drinking it you see it's this cheap knock off brand, you still want the wine but you have to cross the desert to get it, after months and months of walking you finally obtain the wine, and when you drink it, it tastes better then it ever had. What I'm trying to say is Aliens colonial marines made us yearn for the experience more, and I question if that game ever existed would the game be lower graded?

alex ellis I've never played Colonial Marines, and still think this is a rare vintage of a game. I don't think the score would be lower.

Saying 'creating a good male character and changing it to female would not work', okay, I might get that, but saying 'creating a good character and changing it to female' creates an assumption that all base characters for absolutely everything are always male, that male is the default for everything.

ScarabD You make a good point. I think the setting might be the biggest factor here. If the character is living in medieval times gender plays an important part, during modern times a little less so and in a future setting maybe it doesn't really have any effect at all. If the story is set in imaginary setting instead of a one that aims for some realism/root in history it depends wholly on the writer. Character should be a compilation of things. Childhood, gender, friends, family, setting... In my opinion effects of things like that should be considered when making a character, even if in the end you decide that it doesn't effect the character.

I'm not entirely sure if what you say is correct because I haven't studied the matters of personality or social standing in psychology or anything. What I HAVE studied is female portrayal in media such as this (although the general differences between males and females aren't nearly as huge as some like to make out. Psychology has revealed there are actually very, very few traits that are dependant on a person's gender and are not just socially learned responses, and this isn't even taking into account intersexed people, transsexuals, genderfluids, etc.) What I hope we can both agree on here, is the fact that the current representation of women in the media is far from an accurate or complex one, nor is it representative of women (or for that matter, men) as a whole. To simply apply supposedly 'masculine' traits to a female character would create a) A female character like Ridley who WOULD conceivably exist as she was - there are of coruse many women like Ridley out there, it's not like Ridley was an inaccurate representation of women b) is, basically... a good *start* in removing the idea of limitations people have in their minds regarding gender and c) Opens the door to more nuanced portrayals of people of all genders on the spectrum.

If only. That'd be amazing to see their reactions and what they think of the game, and the world created here.
