The biggest disappointment was not putting this game's scenario to the movie even Sean Penn was the one who could act James Sunderland. I remember I took my parents to watch the movie after the effect of this awesome scenario it was a big fault.

This soundtrack complements its game extraordinarily well because it does not induce or allude to threat or danger, but introspection and reflection. Many psychological horror games are infused with the concept of punishing one for their sins, but Silent Hill 2 asks you to look at yourself and decide what fate you deserve. Silent Hill never antagonizes you, it just provides the tools necessary to antagonize yourself. It does not lie, it does not distort, Silent Hill tells the truth.

Silent Hill as a town is quite benevolent unless you go out of your way to mess with it (like Dahlia or Claudia did) It's always intrigued me as to why the town selectively summons people to face themselves and why it chooses to do so? A question for a future Silent Hill game perhaps.

"Black Fairy" to me represents more the feeling of James' ultimate sadness, but also the moment where his subconscious is now actively trying to pull him out of this mess in his head. Everything is clarifying extremely quickly, and these are the last moments that still involve his Silent Hill-induced limbo.

May sound pretentious but a lot of Silent Hill's most iconic music could be described as "the crossing point between dreams and nightmares". They have a mythical aspect you can associate with a deep dream but are always just underlined by that unsettling feeling that something deeper is wrong.

Honestly, that's my favorite horror game in the entire world, it is not a scary game, that makes you scream or jump of you chair, but a emotional, deep and melancholic game, with the most human characters i've ever see, every detail is amazing, the soundtrack is definetly one of the best in the entire video games history, it is a mix of sorrow with fright and passion, Akira Yamaoka is a god. I miss you, old Konami, old team silent hill, old feelings, but in every new game is the same good nostalgia.

Listening to this soundtrack feels like being teleported into a different type of dimension. Feels like a place where time is stopped. Especially the forest theme. So nostalgic. The year of 2002 when everything was more mystic. I don't even know how to describe it. The feeling itself can be hardly described. But I do believe that every single one of us has felt it at some part of his life.

There's this atmosphere that this soundtrack creates that just can't be replicated. The feeling of isolation and despair, yet, within that dark and lonely place, there's a glimmer of hope. That something that urges you to keep going on. It's otherworldly, yet welcoming. It's hard to pin down, but there's that mystery to it that has yet to be re-found in any game after that. Thing is, that really only applies to SH 2, as far as the original trilogy goes. 1+3 were more about cults trying to resurrect a god if I'm not mistaken. 2 was the only one of the three that was intensely personal and internal, where everything was a manifestation of the main character's psychological problems.

@@Stigmatix666 It came out towards the ass end of the ps2 life cycle so that might explain stuff a lil. A consoles best games usually come out earlier on it. Workers are hard at work to make the games impress more and have a better first impression on the customers. You don't launch your console and take years to put good games on it. That's something a phuck up like every xbox cept the first one did and clearly that hurt them. ALWAYS launch your console with must haves in the first few months or else you're going to get your ass kicked in the market. FACT! It's also simply just not as good as part 2. I discovered that game in 2020 during the lockdown, at a moment where the joy of the days without having school left me. I was feeling bad, and ended up being curious about the Silent Hill game franchise after loving the first movie. The most recommended one was the 2nd and so I played Silent Hill 2. No matter how hard i will try, I think I will never have the right words to explain how deep is the mark that game left within me and honestly, as someone that played so many horror games (aside from all the other genres i ve played), I can tell you that this game won't be topped anytime soon. This game doesn't have any jumpscare, or thousand of enemies yet it was the most stressful and mentally impacting This game is a horror game, yet it has the most brilliant dialog lines, soundtrack, story and environments choices I've seen for a game fitting with the story. This game is a horror game, yet it's the most emotional impacting game I had to play in my entire life. This game is a horror game, yet instead of scaring/pushing you away from playing it, it's just weirdly attractive. Calling this game just a "horror game" would be wrong, that game is considered as a "psychological horror game" and I swear that this is so so so so well deserved. I can't verbally explain how much for one single person it is to mentally endure every picky detail and care the developpers did put in their scenario and the way it's told. One single soundtrack from this game is enough for someone that played it and understood it to get into the darkest mental states you've ever went through (I'm particularly thinking of White noiz, Promise(Reprise), Magdalene, Fermata in mystic Air, Silent Heaven, True, Betreyal, Black Fairy). I sincerly consider this game as the artistic production that is the closest to my vision of a dream/nightmare feeling. That game will make you question that principle during the whole walkthrough, and once the game beaten, it s only at that moment that you ll have the 80% of the reflexion material that makes this game unique. I played this game almost 20 years after its release, (I'm 21 right now so don't think i m being biased by nostalgia in this opinion I'm sharing), and still, the game is very playable and convincing to the point where I don't have any other game of the same genre ever released that can get any close to Silent Hill 2. I hope some day Konami will accept doing something great of that franchise again because in my restless dreams, I see that game, Silent Hill....

Silent Hill 2 isn’t a scary game as much as it is an exploration of what a “scary game” should be. James is a lot like us, knowing that Silent Hill shouldn’t be real, yet he is entranced by it all the same. His suspension of disbelief is what causes our suspension of disbelief, and makes Silent Hill more than just a place for horror to occur - it’s a living thing that you can never really let go of. That’s why the relatable human emotions of Silent Hill’s characters comes across as so tangible and real - not only because of the stunning fmv movies, or the voice acting, but because they’re all in a situation that we understand. I’ve heard a lot about Silent Hill 2, done more than my fair bit of research on it - reckon I should play it one day?

This game makes me feel like I can relate to it. How isolating it is. Ominous, Simple, but yet so emotional. Its definitely the embodiment of depression. However, playing the game and listening to the beautiful soundtrack, seeing the unique characters and their fight with life and death. It gives motivation, and in turn creates an emotional atmosphere.

So yeah, born in 1982. My mum's future husband at the time brought some "bootlegged" (sorry) playstation games and amongst them were silent hill. I was extremely fortunate that I had the big telly in my room when my mum got a new one. Silent hill changed my life, I wasnt even allowed to watch horror films but this fell through the net 😁 would play this game into the early hours before school on the sly. Loved the feel and the detachment from reality. Then, fast forward I'm in my own flat with my gf and booked a week off for sh2. And it changed my life. From the ost to the atmosphere and complete immersion it was one of the best weeks annual leave I ever took. I play and listen to akiras beautiful soundtracks 20 years later. I've played many a horror game, but this was so much more. Had so much hope for the franchise when PT came out but I've learnt to accept that all we have is what team silent left us. And they gave me so very much and still do in retrospect to this day. In my restless dreams..........

I come back to this song (null moon) when I notice there needs to be change in my life. Always moving and never stopping as it goes. I can’t remain stagnant for very long or else I get restless (particularly if I’m sedentary in my life for more than a couple years I start to get a little quirky). Right now I am actively starting to become more physical, by working out and eating right. Talk is cheap…

It is always hard trying to detach from this game... I love the mind that created everything in this game. It feels like what the game tried to imitate (This world) by adding horror elements to it such (the decay and the fog with monsters in them) could all together be a perfect alternative universe.

I always come back to certain games, resident evil 4 and 1, shadow of the Colossus, Devil may Cry 3,4 and 1, assassin's creed 2 and silent hill 2 must be the games I replay the most, and their music is one of the things that contribute most to that, I love these games from the bottom of my heart.

I used to listen to this whilst falling asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night at 3:33, I'm not kidding I can remember that clearly. The song that just played was black fairy. I'm a lucid dreamer so I had a third person experience, seeing myself sleeping - but in a corner in my room I saw something lurking. Nothing Silent Hill related, more like a evil ghost watching me, and crawling slowly upon me. I tried to get back into my body ASAP, telling myself this is just a dream. When I switched back into first person, I had a shock, which sometimes happen if you are forced to wake up from a lucid dream. I was unable to move, but the entity was still there! Those were the scariest 30 seconds in my life
