Some advice for ya Taff, shoot at the furthest away target first! then work closer, it will give them less time to spot befre and avoid the torpedos after they hit

Great episode taff, nice collection of sampans added to the tally and you got a well deserved meal in taking out that oiler, taking out those sampans for all they weren't the most appeasing of targets will hurt the enemy in some shape or form, think of it this way.. your taking out a good number of trained gun crews or early warning picket vessels, tonnage is minimal but you still got more tonnage and you've bloodied a patrol screen and took out any early warning radio warning systems, and painted the Pacific red.. which matters most of all. That oil tanker destroyed was the big prize and another blow to enemy fleet movement or logistics, great work.. Well done, excellent success indeed, looking forward to the next episode and well done mate 👍👍

It's coming up to 1944 and it is possible that most of the remaining enemy merchant fleet is further north or along the Asian mainland, explaining why nearly all in these waters are sampans. The South China Sea could have a lot of juicy targets. But it's also an area with much shoaler water.

I enjoy your Silent Hunter IV videos very much Taff, as I do many of your aviation videos as well. I too have experienced the frustration of Sampan overload on patrols. It was part of the WW2 submarine in the Pacific experience. One thing I noticed is that when I had multiple targets, I tried my best to fire at the furthest away first, and tried to time it so the the closest target was fired on to time the torpedo strikes to arrive at approximately the same time. It takes a bit of patience, and I sometimes had to hit pause to do the "napkin math" to figure time and distance calculations, but it works as long as the lookouts don't see the torpedo wakes. Surprise is the key. Difficult in daylight as you know. Good work in getting the first tanker and giving at least one escort something to think about. Keep up the good work.

You need to visualisation the amount of supplies and ammo in each ton then time that by 80 per sampan.. so everthing helps 😊

Makes one wonder about Depth charges, how inaccurate, you need correct location and depth. A far better system would have been sinking charges with contact detonators, like on the hedge hog. Strange it took so long to see the light ? bnh

I'd say there comes an amount of paranoia into play. If they spot you, you'll sink them, because of the slim chance they aren't what it seems or have a radio. You just can't risk it. It's a weird and perverted game of 5d chess. And then there are the less tactical and more war crimey reasons, of course. Some sailors just cracked and murdered helpless people. There are tons of reports of both sides machine gunning people in life boats, or in the water.

@@cyberfutur5000 : Thing is, if a sampan has a radio, shooting at it is very unlikely to sink it before it gets off a radio report. So even if you sink it, you've still given away your position to the enemy. The smart thing to do is to dive as soon as you spot one, and cruise past it submerged.
