I’m so glad this channel exist. No other channel makes this kind of content. I even forgot I was working and was just watching this new episode. That was one underwhelming homing torpedo. At least its still held on to its name. The torpedo just YEETed and went home by itself.

Windspeed 15m/s - min torp depth to guarantee correct operation = 6m. Formula is *indicated windspeed* x 0.4 = torpedo safe depth. That's why the homing torp ran way deep.

I have played Some SH5 and i was and still am a rookie at these types of games. At the time i was playing that game and i apperently also came across an ‘hunter killer group’. I was just casually aiming some torpedo’s at the Aircraft carrier (so without the AIM assist), i fired a couple of torpedoes and then fled away, a couple of minutes later, carrier sunk Herr kaleum. Man i was happy!

The sound glitch you experinced was caused by game pause. It happens from time to time. In my game pause removes ambient sounds 50% of time. To avoid that, use right Enter. The one on numerical keyboard instead of minus. With using right enter your time compression drops to 1 so you never accidentally pause the game. Also sometimes sound can stuck when you use external view. Then you can hear wind inside the boat until you hit the surface. Also I played a lot of SHIII multiplayer in past and from my own experince I can tell, the best depth for torpedo when attacking any destroyer or corvette is 2,5m with magnetic detonator. It rarely fails. And please don´t try break to the Normandy, there are three long mine barriers north of Cherbourg. I like this series and it´s still long way to the end of the war.

At this point in the war......load up on 100% acoustics and just unload all six tubes on the hunter/killer groups or escorts. After you sink about 300 warships things will be safe enough to go after merchants again.

Love this series, keeps getting more and more intense each episode. I actually kind of get nervous towards the end of the war, that you may end up dying at some point.

Wow, i spent all evening working on the list you have here and finally got it to work with most of the mods. This old classic is now revived for me :D Its looking great

Just a thought - if you want to be completely historically accurate in this campaign, you could use the Type XXIII mod for SH3, which replaces the Type XXI in the game. The Type XXIII is a tiny little boat with only 2 torpedoes - but it did actually attack and sink Allied ships in WW2, unlike the larger Type XXI which entered service just a little too late to get into combat.

That homing torpedo was so fucking disappointing. But I guess you have to shoot it with propellers in view so it could home at them.

Another thing as to D-Day... would be interested to see what it looks like for a boat equipped with snorkel, arrived off the coast of Normandy around June 1st, and then linger in the area only comes up to snorkel depth in order to recharge batteries and replenish fresh air... Wolfpack mentioned that it would be impossible for the game to completely replicate that 5K plus ship invasion fleet, but I still see a plethora of capital ships and huge merchies. And with it so crowded and noisy in general, might not be all that impossible to escape after littering the English channel seafloor with prize after prize...🤔

That escort carrier was SUCH a tempting target, I doubt I could've managed to not launch a full spread on it.

My dad and I toured the U-505 in the late 50s, as it was on display in back of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. It was an unforgettable experience as a young boy and probably contributed to my lifelong interest in subs.

i thought battlefleet gothic had so many micro management, gues i was horribly wrong... love the uboat game tho, might try this one as well, but now i should learn how to do proper manual torpedo attack before jumping to this game... keep up the content!

Aah, the old fourstackers, sunk a lot of those back in the day :-) Some advice: use your boat a sniper basically in late war, and probe harbours etc. Just stay on the bottom during the day, gently obviously, and go hunt small coastal convoys around the harbour entrances. There´s a lot to be learned about the T-5, only use it for deflection shots. It´s only sensitive truly at an arc of 60 degrees on either side of the torpedo. When you fire these, you fire them at a reasonable angle, and always set magnetic detonators obviously. They often don´t kill the destroyer either, just slam into the screws and let it slowly sink by the stern if you´re lucky. But the T-4 is darn slow, it´s incredibly slow and, the T-4 was developed against merchants ships by the way :-) Not against escorts ;-) It´s audio-filtering system was designed for screws below 12 knots, and the T-5 had the over 12 knots filtering. But yeah, they´re only as good as the captain using them, and they´re kinda ´inverse logic´ in terms of firing at target. Unless you get within say 200 yards at an angle of 90 degrees, she will not start tailing the escort. PS. As crazy as this may sound, you should read the book called ´Dönitz his Last Gamble: the Inshore Campaign´ and understand the drastic change in tactics U-Boats took from September 1944 onwards. They operated submerged 24/7, and this is something you´ll have to learn if you want to survive. A VII-C/41 is a great machine, even if it´s dead slow compared to modern submarines, and I truly enjoyed slugging it out with the Allies in TOTAL underwater war. This places very different demands on weaponry, crew and upgrades. You need to count in 50% more fatigue submerged, and reduce your crew to the size that´ll fit a continuous rotational scheme to avoid this problem. These were real problems, but the war was not los for me. I sailed it out from 1944 all the way to my surrender in Scapa Flow :-) This was actually just 2 patrols because of going soooooo incredibly slow underwater, but it´s the way they handled things from the late war onwards. The XXI never came to be, but it was decided that the change in tactics from surfaced to fully submerged warfare could not wait. Boats without snorkels were simply used for spare parts/scrapped altogether, and the U-Boat war actually, for a very short time and without the XXI, caught the Allies of guard and seemed as if it would turn around right around the period the Battle of the Bulge started. The Admiralty had no answers to these new tactics of coastal hugging, continuously submerged U-Boats breathing trough their ´Life Saver Pipe´. You should forget about reloading torpedoes, replace those crew with increased radar/hydrophone officers, forget about Flak, just add extra mechanics and repair guys and reduce the crew to say 35 men that rotate in 15 men shifts. It´s not impossible to score success even this late in the war, but you´ve got to make a choice: Slug it out on the surface, with certain death, or go in the most ´hot´ areas imaginable, and forget about sinking convoys. It´s bad for your ego to home with ´just´ 6000 tons in sinkings, but of those were 5 destroyers that tried to kill you? It´s a very happy time indeed. :-) The Hunter-Killer group is also not as strong as it seems, at first I was scared of them. But with a well-timed attack (and take out the escort carrier in a first blow, otherwise the Avengers get launched and ur screwed) and making maximum use of the homing torpedo... You should get away with it. However no idea if this can be done with a IX-C, since it´s rather slow/fat compared to a VII-C(and/or 41). I got the hang of it after a while, and operating from Flensburg, every dash into the North Sea alone was an adventure! The scale of the war narrows down, it becomes a slugfest in the Channel, which is not impossible to breach. There´s the England-Antwerp convoy-lanes to stalk, and you can take on a *lot* more damage in these shallow waters. Also, if this is any form of the Late War mods, than the shallow water should reduce your audio-signature. Get a mod, rip the SONAR file out of it, and put it in your SH-folder if necessary.

I would love to see you play around with one of the surface ship mods one day. I know there's a mod for one of the Silent Hunter games that adds a Montana Class Battleship, so they can get ridiculous.

I would recommend firing a spread of tubes 1-4 at that convoy from a distance of 3,000-4,000 meters - or maybe select two targets and give them 2 fish each. Then I'd suggest spinning around as soon as those four bow fish are running and fire tubes 5 & 6 at another target in the convoy and then heading away and diving deep. With your current hull damage attacking is a BIG risk IMO. If you do attack, I wouldn't penetrate the escort screen. I want to see you live to get that type XXI in a couple more in-game months. After breaking contact, I'd head straight for Lorient. Just my 2 cents! :)

I think our approach here is too aggressive given the Allied superiority in the air and the prevalence of hunter-killer patrols. If, for example, we take damage from attacking a particular convoy, that means our position is known to all assets, and thus the prudent response is to move off for a few days and resume the patrol for a convoy.

Don't know about the hard coded fix mod and it potential effects on homing torpedoes, but maybe I'll try it on. If not anything else, that patch will get your boys killed! -One tactical gambit I used was to lure the vessel in question in a favorable torpedo path by having them deliberately acquire&chase me while diving making sure the homing sequence initiated. Also, in times of hurry I always put a standard 1.5m depth to any homing torpedo as it usually ends up chasing and hitting the aft of the destroyer, at least incapacitating it's mobility. Dud rates were low with the contact pistol. 700-1000 renown for a single shot is expensive..

If those type XXIIIs at Bergan were better placed they might be able to get something done to the D day fleet, their sonar signature is much much harder to detect than a type IX. Type IXs are just too big for that sort of thing.

Hey Wolf I know you did some videos for mods in silent hunter 3 but have you done one for controls? I just got the game myself and I have to say the tutorial leave much to be desired. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

Because I can't make either work on my PC, I'm guessing that it is because of Windows 10, but seeing that you make it work 100% fine and with a bunch of mods, I would like to know how you get it done. nice work think at the end that was a hunter task force there,s a new game coming on steam not sure when but it,s shoe on the other foot Destroyer ... i remember when Destroyer Command came out you could play against sh 3 in multiplayer. so might be a good series coming up, keep it up Capitain Wolf if your near germany land radio in a contact.the Luftwaffe will come out and attack the convoy not seen you do that yet...
