This was a great video and fantastic technique. If you can tune out all of the people who keep interrupting her you’ll see that she explains herself quite nicely and repeatedly. I think a lot of the confusion came from people not listening and being hung up on their own questions. That’s a shame because she never got to show us the fully finished dress form, but she got close enough for me to visualize it. Please make this a stand alone video where you just make your points without being interrupted. Thank you!

I have watched many videos on padding dressforms and I am convinced your method is the best, the quickest, most accurate, and easiest.

Years ago, my husband was given a Sally Stitch dress form. It was too small for me, and my waist was an inch higher. I created my first drafted pattern and made it up into a princess seam short dress. I put a zipper in it. I padded the dress form under my sewn cotton muslin body form. Just as you are doing here. It taught me so much and gave me a fitted form to use to draft patterns and test fit. I have redone the form twice since. I did eventually use a bra and padded under it. But only after I had learned bra making and had extra sewn bras. I am so grateful for all your educational videos and information. You are the best. Excellent tutorial.

Miss Peggy, thank you so much for this tutorial. I have failed miserably with my dress forms in the past. You have given me a new perspective and I am eager to try again. You are a jewel. Your sons are such a blessing. Sincerely, Paula

Playing catch up this weekend! This is a brilliant video, thank you, I really do 'get it' now. Will have to wait for the next batch of forms as the offer will stop before I have saved enough! And you are getting tables - I really, really need one of those! Hopefully, they will also be sendable to the UK.

Peggy thanks so much for this video I cannot wait to pad my dress form. I really think people can understand that the sheath dress is a cover for all the required padding but it was something to try and wrap my head around the fact that the knit sheath doesn’t really stretch. So thanks for covering this with such great detail.

As I'm understanding this: I have to adjust the pattern for the sheath dress first, adjusting for a very round mid-back and a high round, as well. I have shrunk 4 inches since going through menopause. I am now 71 years old.

This is awesome! I have a paper-tape DIY dressform that I out-grew (sadly) ... and now I have a path to making it match me again without starting over (and yes, I'll have to skip the 2nd slice of Pumpkin Pie myself!

You adjust the pattern first for your measurements before you cut out the stretch material pieces and it is also what gives you the sizing for the batting pieces. LOL...no calories in batting! But not as tasty as banana pudding, either! Thank you so much for this video!

Thanks. I need to re -fit my dress form. Just wrapping and adding foam pads did not make sense or fit my round back and fat waist. The viewers questions always distract me BUT I can always replay. Thanks for all your teaching and patterns. Take care in that storm.

This is brilliant. After a while, the light bulb went on about why the muslin is in a knit. It's like wearing a body suit that isn't tight; it's not a girdle!. And if you translate "padding out a form" like we all have been taught to what you are doing, your way makes perfect sense! All the time my forms didn't fit right when I padded them out; I never considered the thickness of what I was using to pad. I'll try this method, looking for batting that is 1/4" thick And by the way, the Sweater Set is my favorite pattern! I've made over 12 tops with it.

I agree about the sizing changes in the upper body with weight change. At 65 I gained 7 pounds and my small shirts do fit snugly thru the upper body area. I was always slim at 110 but the extra 7-8 pounds makes a big difference. Now I need to con-fence myself my new body is ok.

What do you think of this idea? Make the sheath pattern up to fit the dress form. Then lay it on top of the sheath pattern that fits your body. Line them up at center front/back and a vertical point like waist or neck and grade at quarter inch intervals so it looks like a multiple size pattern. Cut out all the sizes (except the dress form size and the muslin size) in the batting so each layer progresses in shape from the dress form to you.

You used a different method on the previous dressform video that required a woven cover. I guess I could use woven fabric to make up the knit sheath dress with because it's me so i wouldn't be able to move but the mannequin isn't moving anyway 😉

You are adding height to the shoulders, so the distance from shoulder to bust point is increased?

The knit sheath is not a dress it is cover to hold the battling in place. When you call the sheath a dress the mind of the Individuals envision a dress that they will wear. The white knit sheath you have made is not a dress to wear.
