In this video I compare three different brands and styles of silicone trays. I will say the boltster has quickly become my favorite for sure. They all seem to have their pro's and con's whether it be price or design or material that's used.
To me just like anything else they each have their place and will cater to different people with different budgets and different needs as well.

I find a three-piece set that you have is one of the better ones. Well, I'll start out and say I'm biased because I own something similar from harbor freight. Primarily use it to lay it down on the shop floor and when I pull things off suspension knuckles and brakes I just throw it down on the mat. It's better than just leaving it on the floor as some mechanics do, annddd....okay! I did it too.... And I did it for a long time! And sometimes still lazy and use the shop floor...So having one of these mats is way better. That bolt mat is totally down your alley though. You do a lot of engine work.

Yea I’ve found as I go along in my career everyone has different preferences as well as different types of work as well. A lot of time I see assumptions being made on the internet that just because someone is a mechanic they all work on the same stuff but usually they have their niche they do a lot of as well. Never thought about putting them on the ground for that. It’s a good idea thanks for that!

@@Enrightauto yeah I hope that technique serves you well! Leaving them on the floor on a mat is quicker than trying to dig through them and magnetic tray. Except for lug nuts. I always seem to need to have them in a magnetic tray and leave them on a rack

I got the large and medium from HF. Not sure I’ll need the small one but the large lets me get a bunch of space to hold parts and fasteners when I’m working on my car. The medium is all around perfect to carry around while I work on things away from my tools. Load it up with some things I know and might need and take it to the problem area to fix what I’m working on. Gotta say I love these with coupon prices. And they’re just flat awesome colored.

@@ws4835 honestly get the small one. They all nest. And then they hold bits. And when I work on a car I embrace the 1/4 impact driver from screws with adapters. From 1/4 to 1/2 inch I run down all my fasteners with adapters . And that's what the small mat does, hold bits.

You completely ignored the purpose and design of the Boltster - it's not really for bits, it's for keeping bolts in a specific arrangement, like when you have longer and shorter bolts holding a cover on, so you don't have to draw a "map" on cardboard. But the one problem with the design is that it's meant for M7 and larger bolts, which doesn't help people working on small engines.

I’ve been using the boltster for 2 yrs I know what it’s used for. I didn’t ignore anything. Not everyone will use them the same 👌 they have multiple models now as well

Mac just came out with a new 2 piece silicone tray that's really nice. I bought it and I love it. Check it out. It's $99. Part# MBSS-TY

Yea I tried looking into that tray except Mac tools is stuck in the ice ages with their online stuff. You can’t even find that tray on their online catalog it’s annoying. I don’t have a dealer so I’m stuck
