In this video I talk about silver stacking and how silver is silver. Some silver stackers will say that all silver ounces should have the same value regardless of the shape or design. The only thing that gives silver its value is the fact that it is made out of silver. Certain silver coins that carry heavy premiums should be avoided for silver stacking simply because the premium will never be recouped. I push back on this idea and explore the concept of collectible silver items as a way to keep people interested in silver stacking. I have been silver stacking for over 6 years now and I have bought generic silver, silver rounds, silver bars, junk silver, silver coins, silver eagles, and many other types of silver bullion including collectible high premium silver coins. I think that high premium silver items should not be a priority for any silver stacker, but simply a fun alternative that is explored with the understanding that all premiums could evaporate if we go into a SHTF Scenario.

As a Boomer Stacker (hey, great name for a KZfaqr!), I buy only Eagles and Maples. But in a nod to my childhood (when a pocket full of change made you feel like a millionaire) I also collect a few coins from the past, such as Mercury dimes, Franklin and Walking Liberty halves, Morgan and Peace dollars. Nostalgia for this country's past is also a great reason to stack!!

Like S Dragon says silver is silver. Now if you buy various coinage to give as presents to your children or grands, which I've done for special occasions that's fine. If you decide your going to build an inheritance for your progeny then stick with bars, low premiums that you'll never recoup unless you bought it for 20. p/ oz & your selling for 30.

But in the recent past, when demand and premiums were crazy for ASE, you could make a nice profit selling ASEs. Now, when there's no/low demand for silver, ASE keeps lots of the said HIGH premiums. Compare buyback price of 27.5 for rounds vs 32.5 for ASE. Thats a $5 or 15.4% difference. People are only looking at the buy price but not looking at the historical buy/sell spread. ASEs are the best buy and sell for silver. Better yet get Gold Eagle and be in the money when you buy it.

The thing is that people are stupid and they think there is extra value in higher premium things when there isn't and so they buy it which keeps that idea afloat. So if people refused to buy those items, the premiums would end up coming down. Silver is silver. Buy the cheap stuff.

The key is risk analysis. The markets are and has always been unpredictable. Thus the important point is not how much one might make but what one could lose. trading and holding on speculative stocks/Crypto and even great stocks can test ones ability in the arena of our ability to control ones loss aversion bias…buy high sell low…The market is overvalued by almost all measures like the CAPE and Buffett indicator. Speculation is high with things like meme stocks (are they dead yet?), our kitty dude, Ai dreaming and all.... It is all about how much one can lose during times like these. Does that mean don't invest, of course not but one must access the risk and have a way out if the tide goes out.....I've been engaged in active trading and managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.6B'tc to a decent 24B'tc....I'm especially grateful to Sandy Barclays, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

Silver is silver. I started stacking last year. I'm only buying silver bars and silver rounds. So I want to get as many oz's of gold and silver for my $20k / year budget. I totally get why people by other things. I have two friends that only buy silver eagles. Also, the dealers have to make money and my understanding is they do it via premiums. And last, I would guess that supply and demand effect premiums as well as physical supply. This was a fun video and I bet there will be lots of comments!

This is the melt value argument. It's all about sell price. When it's time to sell, Silver is more liquid and more sought-after and is priced of its intrinsic value, not cuz of any collectibility or added value beyond that. If you don't agree with this, then you must be of the school of diversification which means that you will not be selling all of your silver at one point. So a good way to balance both ideas is to get generic cheap silver that you can sell at melt value one day and hold on to your more precious stuff forever and ever and ever and ever and ever! We love you bro, since day one, my 7 year old has been saying for years, silver dragons is the best!

Ex Poketuber here, I agree with you, premiums are easily comparable to why some pokemon cards are worth more than others. I stack silver and I'm not a collector by any means when it comes to silver, to me silver is silver but some intricate pieces be they government backed coins/bars or bullion round have more value as they are unique and limited. TLDR if we don't like the premium on silver items stop buying high premium silver and buy cheapest we can get. If they don't sell well they don't turn a profit, vote with your money people.

It really depends on what you want the metal for. My parents are both retired, no debt, mortgage paid off, they turned a portion of their cash into gold and silver as something of a value safeguard (a good family friend is a wholesale precious metal dealer, he got them some boullion for melt price, the amount they bought was ridiculously small for him and my dad has been somewhat of his mentor in ham radio construction, so it was more of a favour for a retiring friend). On the other hand, if you want to see it as a hobby that does retain a value, for example something to enjoy with your kids while teaching them basic economics at the same time, coins would be my choice, worst case scenario, they still are worth melt, most scenarios, the premiums bring a little extra.

A Silver Eagle as a whole coin is not pure silver, but contains 1 ozt. of silver in the alloy of silver and copper in the coin. It is closer to sterling silver in make-up. In contrast, a Canadian Maple Leaf and most bullion rounds are pure silver with no alloy. This is why Eagles are larger and weigh more than 1 troy oz., and do not say 999 or 9999 on the coin. A Maple or round that is 999+ can be direct melted into pure silver, but an Eagle will require refining to purity, an additional cost on top of the initial premium should it need to be combined into an investment grade bar, divided into fractional, or used in industry somewhere down the road. If stacking for BULLION value, buy coins, rounds or bars that indicate 999+.
@tempestformatics
@tempestformatics 23 күн бұрын
US Silver Eagles are .999 pure silver, and weigh exactly 1 troy ounce. >US GOLD Eagles contain 1 troy ounce of gold alloyed with copper/silver, so the coin is heavier than 1 troy ounce (33.93 grams).

The fact that some people simply don't TRUST anything other than Constitutional or ASE's, or "fill in the blank", then I think you have your answer. The real issue is when people try to sell, and some LCS's will lowball on many things because they don't trust it or are worried about fakes. The issue of premiums is ongoing, dealers and traders need to run a business, but the real issue here is TRUST. Silver is silver, but people won't trust something they don't recognize as legitimate.

I have some bars, rounds, etc...But I believe, that when the dollar goes to nothing, it's probably much better to hold the coin of the realm! Which is constitutional silver and type 1 silver eagles! I live in America, and silver is silver yes, but it's better to have American coinage then another countries money! But, we all have to do what we think is best for ourselves!✌🏼👍🏼

I'm no expert, but typically the larger bars are cheaper, per oz. I ended up with a 5 oz and a 10 oz because of a spot deal. At some point, I'll trade them for 1 oz rounds.

If you are stacking silver with the possible intent of selling it at some point, I think you should purchase the most popular coins or rounds which would give you a better chance of selling it when that time comes.

Great video Silver Dragons! I’ve adopted a different strategy. At my LCS, I hit the generic bins for 1 - 10 oz first. I’ve found a lot of interesting pieces at low premiums. With spot >30, people are dumping their hidden treasures. I always find a few oz to buy. As you mentioned, it takes some of the boredom out of stacking generics.

I love coin-bars, shame there's such a high premium on them. I got a 100 gram cook island coin-bar for 110 euro which was cool, sadly they only had one left :( I also bought a tube of random 1oz silver coins for normal coin price and there were 14 silver eagles from 1988 in there :D (eagles have like a $5 premium here in The Netherlands so that was a nice suprise)

super informative. thanks! i'm a new stacker and spent the first year going for silver that interested me, and i paid some silly premiums for several ingots, vintage poured bars, and other artsy collectible silver bullion. i still get halted in my tracks when i see a very pretty piece of art on a coin, round, bar however i have moved on to silver coins, my first batch of 'junk' silver is coming soon. I see no junk in 90% lol stack on!

I love to "roll hunt" vintage rounds and bars. I buy assorted lots at auction and you don't know what exactly is in there. I pull the unique stuff I like and list the rest on FB or eBay. I can sell it near spot ($1-$2 over) which is more than a LCS pays and is cheaper for the buyer than going to a shop. It essentially pays for itself. I'm still "playing" with the same money I started with and have accumulated 20-30 vintage rounds over the past 6 months or so.

Whatever it takes to reach your goal. I reached mine a cpl years back, but this week I bought 100oz of buffalos just bc. Last week, however, I bought 25 oz (1-2oz rounds) of just crap I liked. If you're new - absolutely go for weight. A few years ago I'd have told you "whatever," but the price action right now + rate cuts + global volatility = get weight first. If you have some weight though, do you!

I bought a silver eagle last purchase. I was a bit underwhelmed. I much prefer spending less for more appealing rounds and bars. I'm getting close to 200oz of my 500oz goal before converting some into gold. Should we be forced into using silver to buy items, the premiums will likely still be a thing, as the identification will be easier for the common mints. But what happens should the govt demand the exchange of the coins to digital currency......I'll stay with lower premiums and bigger stacks.

If one really believes we are going to get a measurable move up in price, it does make sense to allocate your silver investment into less premium rounds, bars, etc. In other words, choosing private mints over government mints generally. The premium will more than likely not change by % compared to price appreciation.
