Replacing the transmission cooler lines while I have easy access before the lift kit goes in. Pretty easy job except the aftermarket clips that I struggled with.
Things that might help with a project like this:
AC Delco Lower Line: amzn.to/2GxjwCu
AC Delco Upper Line: amzn.to/2GxjwT0
AC Delco Retainer(Clip): amzn.to/2SiuPji

I spent a little more and had some made with hydraulic lines and fittings. They were a lot easier to route around everything too!

Im in the process of doing repairs to this generation truck now - Transmission lines, oil lines, power steering lines, motor mounts, etc. Your videos have been a great reference. Have you ever done the fuel lines on this truck? I think that's next on my list after the winter
@mossman381
@mossman381 Жыл бұрын
I haven't done fuel lines. Those seem to hold up better for some reason. Brake lines on this generation Silverado are a must do if they haven't been done.

I had a small spike during Dec but really just a slow growth. The only reason why I have the 6" lift is because my channel did really good in Dec. The more I make the bigger and better the projects I can do. I feel like I have the skills to tackle just about anything at this point.

Cool video. I actually Just had my transmission lines that run to my auxiliary cooler replaced a few weeks ago by Mister Transmission. It wasn't too costly to have them do it, as I don't have the tools nor the garage to do a job like that in, especially in the tight places the cooler is in my F350. The lines in my truck were just the end pieces really, they were sweating through the lines and a lot of dirt and sludgy looking buildup was coating about the first 5 inches of line coming out of the cooler, and I also had the little cylinder shaped auxiliary filter for the cooler replaced at the same time also as it was coated in nasty crap too. I'm the sort of person that keeps a close watchful eye on all my equipment and taking serious mental notes of what to keep a close eye on and I like to replace parts before they start to cause me grief or problems. And my trucks never let me down before, or ever left me stranded so I think I'm doing something right. In my opinion if you treat your equipment the right way, it will more than likely show you the same respect also.

Yes, a lot of people just run a vehicle until they get stranded or it stops moving. Not a good plan.

Go AC Delco on these lines. The Dorman I got from RockAuto didn't have the flare on 1 line. Kept blowing off. I ended up cutting and splicing the old end on to get buy. But will be replacing it with OEM lines and get to do the job twice.

It's good to get that done now. I wonder what the book time is for that job. Would painting the lines help them last longer? I imagine so. But the equation eventually swings on how long you are going to keep the truck.
@mossman381
@mossman381 7 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's worth painting the lines. The first lines lasted 15 years. Spraying the whole underside with Fluid Film would be the best but then everything is an oily mess.

Yeah, I need oil cooler lines on my Yukon, but I know the Dorman lines don't last long so I'm holding off until I can play the $80 a piece for the OE lines. Mine aren't rusted just leak on the rubber sections.
@mossman381
@mossman381 7 жыл бұрын
You can just cut out the rubber crimp sections if your line isn't rusted. The OE lines leak at the crimps as well.

I flush my own transmission fluid on my 2016 GMC Terrain. I'm going to buy 3 fittings to solve this problem. 1) ACDelco 15226661 2) Jiffy-Tite 31306 3) Jiffy-Tite 32106 The idea is that when I want to disconnect the oil cooler line, I just pull back on the Jiffy-Tite 31306. What a terrible and cheap design to inflict on loyal GM customers.

what if transmission valve swap and accidentally installed in wrong direction do you think 'll keep temp of trans down ?
@mossman381
@mossman381 6 жыл бұрын
I think you are asking if you swap the lines around will it cool the trans. I think it will. I know they want the fluid going in a certain direction into coolers to maximize the cooling effect. If you are towing a lot probably would flip them back around.

mossman, I've got a 2007 Silverado 2500HD 6.6L Diesel and I'm swapping out the lower transmission cooler line, which runs beside the upper line down the right side of the engine. They are attached to the block with a plastic clip. Did you have any difficulty getting the lines released from the clip and if so, how'd you release the clip? Thanks, CJ
@mossman381
@mossman381 4 жыл бұрын
Been awhile since I was messing with these lines. Not sure I remember a clip. Most of the GM clips will unhook from the sides. Get some light and maybe a mirror and get a good look at it.
