It is getting colder in Japan, but here at Higashiyama Zoo, we were filled with enthusiasm.
Shabani and his son Kiyomasa were playing wrestling furiously.
They were getting more and more heated and playing so intensely that I thought they were fighting.

That’s one of the best interaction videos I’ve seen between dad & son! Kiyo seems to be playing, yet testing his limits and how much “ show of force” he can exhibit before dad takes the upper hand. Great fun, esp when Kiyo tosses grass in Shabani’s face, then the chase that ensues! Thanx for posting for our enjoyment!

It's because he through the hay on him. He had to show him who's in charge and to even further illustrate who goats him into battle with the rope in order to say " I challenged you mentally and still beat you physically". I completely understand the silverbacks predicament.

Steve, I agree. Shabani is such a great Dad! Shabani took care and protected his little Princess, Annie and made sure She wasn't attacked by Nene. Shabani has the personality & heart of a child. He loves affection from his family and often will try and engage affection & attention by touching and playing with his wives, who usually deny him, but the kids always want to play and adore their Daddy! Shabani is just so wonderful with so much strength, he is so gentle and patient with his babies! He is so funny and playful. I wish there were more babies in this family because when Annie & Kyomasa move on to a new group to start their own families, there will be no one there but the adults. I think Nene is alive because she lives to dote on and protect her Prince, Kiyomasa and I fear when he leaves she will be so devastated she will find no reason to live & it will kill her. Shabani, he will be heartbroken, confused and maybe angry for his babies to suddenly be gone. ( wish we could explain why they had to leave to ease their suffering and confusion ) But, what will become of them after the Gorilla kids leave? Nene doesn't really like to bother with Shabani and Al is just a bit dissociated well, in her own little world, mentally. LOL! Shabani is 26, he is still young and should have more babies. Maybe if there were a few babies still there, Annie and Kiyo leaving may not be so heartbreaking to them as they would have more babies to distract and interact with. I hope the staff has a plan for the adults because Gorillas are so sensitive to any changes, especially Shabani who lost a lot of weight when they moved to the new enclosure , his kids suddenly being gone one morning will really break his heart and he may even be very angry with the staff and the females there because he is so heartbroken and confused why they are gone. Hopefully they will add a few Females to this family to mate with Shabani before the kids leave. I would think, the sooner the better so Shabani has more Kids to play and dote on. I hope the staff doesn't wait too long and gets some females in this family. Nene is too old to have more babies and Al doesn't seem interested in being a mother. Hoping for the best for this beautiful family. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and great NY! 😁

Father used to hug his son with love like submission, but now son has grown and will definitely miss those hugs. That was so lovely to watch. Peace and happiness to them.

What a great video of the boys playing while gibbons sing in the background! Shabani is teaching Kiyo how to fight and at the same time, how to keep his strength in check. Kiyomasa will be a fantastic silverback!

Dana, agree. Shabani has the heart of a child. He is so playful and affectionate and loves when his kids want to play and interact with him. I just wish he had more females moved to this zoo so he can have more babies. He is 26, still young and if he has more babies, soon when Kiyo and Annie leave, it may not be as heartbreaking having babies to still play with and distract the adults from the stress of them leaving. Sadly, I think Nene lives for Kiyomasa and lives to dote on him and still protects him. I fear when he leaves Nene will be so broken hearted it will kill her.She is old, but when it comes to her Little Prince, Kiyo, she is strong and fast to protect him. Shabani is just the best Dad and needs more babies. He is so sensitive, I just adore him and how patient, playful and affectionate he is with his family. He is just wonderful. Me too! Shabani had a great Dad who taught him and I also agree Kyo becomes a very playful, patient and decent Dad. Shabani's job is to teach him that. Mom has to back off a bit and let Dad do his job.

My Beautiful mother was born and raised in West Virginia Beckley West Virginia and the small family built dwelling was a beautiful little home and she was raised mainly by her grandmother who was a beautiful special strong white woman who had a beautiful spirit. She married my mom's father who and his brothers were talented hard working honest builders plumbers and carpenters. This union that my ancestors were blessed with would be a win win situation and while grandma was busy buying property and houses that were rented out after completing the rest of the family held jobs so everyone can benefit from one another's and It would teach a important lesson for the family. And this is the only one thing that we lack as a race of honest people who have been blessed and promised to be safe in the mighty hand of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Amen.
