1. Start in the fall 2. Kill the weeds - use tenacity 3. Aerate lawn 4. drop in grass seed 5. Apply starter fertilizer 6. Water 2-3 times a day 7. Stay off the lawn 8. Mow in a month and bag clippings. 9. After 2 months, mow weekly and cut 2.5 to 3.5 inches high. 10. Every 6 weeks fertilizer

I have a question, the video says to start the process in fall. But once I add the seeds and fertilizer and wait for 3-4 weeks it is already October and cold considering I am in Canada. So should I mow the grass in October or can I continue the following steps in spring?

same here. I reno'ed a big area and since I have no idea what grass seed was used previously I ended up with beautiful new grass that was dark green while the rest of the lawn wasn't that dark. @@markorebernik3760 oh noo. Hopefully it will get back on track. I was very fortunate this year to get a ton of rain up here in Delaware. So mine has been nice and green but I have had to water it here and there to keep it from starting to Brown in between the rains. And I also have zoysia grass so it always dies and turns brown and dormant in the fall and winter, so that will be coming soon for me. But it is fun taking care of the lawn I think. Many people see it as a nuisance but it's kind of relaxing to me to go out and mow the grass and weed the flower beds.

Just wanted to let you know I took your steps and this fall, my yard looks at least 75% better than what I came in with. Tenacity is amazing - got rid of my crabgrass and ground ivy, and most of my dandelion. I spot sprayed for weeds August 1 and again August 15 to hit what I missed. I aerated (this was hard on a hilly lawn, but next year I will use a billy goat or outsource this part) September 13, and put down limestone then - I have a lot of moss and pine needles to deal with. I overseeded the next day with Pennington Contractor's Mix. Fertilized a week later. Watered twice a day for about 2 weeks after seeding. Then every 3 days or so for another couple weeks. Was ready to mow by week 3... there was over 6 inches of growth. I basically haven't stopped bagging weekly clippings since... helps me get all the leaves off my heavily wooded lawn. It's not perfect, but my husband is impressed with what I've accomplished in a single season with minimal investment. I wish I could post my before and after pics. Guys, if you live in New England.... Silver Cymbal's tips will help you get your lawn better. These steps worked for me. I am no longer embarrassed of my lawn. Thank you Silver Cymbal!

I'd avoid any contractors mix. It's usually fast growing sometimes contains annual grasses that germinate early and look good for that season and die off the next year. They also usually are the cheapest and have more weeds. His advice on grass seed has been very accurate for me.

and everything that can cause a really thin sparse lawn is using a sprinkler system too much too often it depletes the nutrients so a lack of fertilization will also cause a poor looking lawn and once the lawn is established it's best to water heavy one time per week instead of light waterings everyday this will force the roots to go deep and top growth equals root development in about 3 in of root development for seed to make it through the summer so that's why it's best not to seed during the summer. your advice is pinpoint accuracy for success

I only add that "new lawn nutrients" can be added prior to a lawn renovation, while seeding, or after. Try a granular bio char prior to renovation. amazing! this has worked like a charm in mid Iowa. i have had outstanding results following your advice this spring! tenacity worked perfectly! my yard was over 80% broadleaf plantain weeds and purple clover smothering out the grass by the first week of april and now it’s down to just a handful of small spots after 3 applications of weed killer, one round of fertilizer and 2 rounds of overseeding. The first 2 tenacity applications were over the whole yard, last one was spot treatment. I’m currently waiting for my second round of overseeding to grow but i’ve seen a massive improvement. it feels like a miracle! i have gained so much confidence in how to fix and maintain a lawn when I was once was hopeless. i’m confident before the next winter my yard will be one of the best in the neighborhood. thank you so much for the clear and easy to follow instructions!

Thank you so much, I followed these steps and achieved unbelievable results that shocked my neighbors, family members, and coworkers. I had all but given up, my lawn had turned brown and sparse - looking completely dead. I followed these simple steps, and followed them COMPLETELY, and had a perfect green lawn within 5 weeks. So many people asked about it, and all of them I just gave them your link! Cannot thank you enough. And for those of you reading this and are on the fence about doing it, stop thinking and just do it - but do it ALL, no shortcuts.

Hello. After tenacity, how long did you wait to start seeding? And after seeding how long did you wait after applying starter fertilizer?
@BrettLyon
@BrettLyon Жыл бұрын
@@sofiavillarreal820 No need to wait for either of your two questions! Every year, I usually do the following: get home from work on a Friday night, apply the tenacity, go to bed, wake up on Saturday, rent an aerator from Home Depot, aerate, spread seed, and spread starting fertilizer all on Saturday. Then I water twice every day and refrain from cutting for 4 weeks

After we put thick layers of woodchips all under our bushes/trees at one edge, we noticed our lawn got nicer. It seems like the woodchips not only fertilized the ground under them; but seeped into the lawn next to it. And ooh! I just got Black Beauty seed this week.

You want a blend of different grasses. That way if it gets a disease it won't wipe out your entire lawn. Set a timer to water just before sun up. This will cut down on mold and overall disease. If you aerate it's a must to keep the clippings after you mow. This will add nitrogen and provide coverage from the sun and hold enough moisture, not too much for mold, to help with new seed. I worked at a large lawn care company all throughout college. Their methods were backed by years of science. Last tip keep your mower at top height. This will allow the grass to naturally chock out new weeds reducing the need for chemical sprays.

The only issue is it's late to aerate now that it's May but my lawn is Ugly with some patches and filled with clovers, crabgrass, and white flowers i don't know the name of and want to get started. I believe I can overseed but have to water yard more often, right? I hope I don't mess up and have a yard full of just dirt from killing the grass...LOL

Little tip for all of you, he touched on it but its very important. You need to do your best to keep the lawn constantly damp at the minimum for 2 weeks, not sopping wet, if it feels like a water bed when you step on it youre either going to intoduce disease or drown your grass effectively wasting your time.
