Jewellery Making how to do videos by David Ross.
David of DR Jewellery & Design videos some of his manufacturing processes in the world of hand made jewellery. Hand made / hand fabricated / hand forged jewellery is becoming a lost art form and David would like to share some of his knowledge.
I really the process and love how the pendant turned out in this jewellery making illustration. It has such an old world & Navajo style - look to it. I made most of my stamps as per an old document that I found that contained a lot of old stamp designs that the Navajo used back in the old days and have tried to recreate some of the combination stamping techniques.
In order to move things along and get in to this video as much as possible of the processes that it it took to make this pendant - I have done most of the video clips in high speed playback.
I also decided to include video footage of the Darkening the metal / Patina stage using Liver of Sulphur - I hope that you find this useful.
I’ve been experimenting with a few different video formats so please let me know in the comments if you have any feedback for me - it would be greatly appreciated.

Wow... that is beautiful! The mirror shine is amazing and the way the stone snapped into place was PERFECT! 👍 I do a little bit of wire wrapping and create round wire-wrap bezels to set CZ's in pendants and there's no better sound than hearing it "snap!" on the first try. 😊 I'd love to have tools and a safe little work space to practice what I've been learning from video tutorials such as yours. You do fabulous work! Thanks for sharing your valuable skills! Cheers! 🙂

Great design. I love it. Little tip that I use for measuring around bezel. I use sticky tape and it doesn't slip around the stone. Overlap and mark with a pen then cut on the line. Perfect....

I wonder if you might do a tips and tricks video on how to heat a big sterling silver base without melting the bale. I seem to always melt the bale. I also seem to end up with a chunck of solder that will not melt. ugh. Any advice is appreciated. 😊
@davross_au
@davross_au Жыл бұрын
Heat controll is what any Jeweller will need to develop .. When I was a beginner .. the teachers would give us projects that would combine a very large object to be soldered to a small object.. and it takes time to get a feel for how much you can heat an object befor it melts or is the solder does something undesireable .. getting your flame hot enough is one issue .. and learning how to move your flame out of the way quickly befor you melt the items .. as well as the larger item needs more heat and the smaller item need way less heat. and how to balance between heating the 2 at the same time.. I will persist in putting another video up about soldering . But my new studio is not completly set up at the moment . . I have recently moved and will need a bit of time . Thanks for watching :)

Is it better to not back the bezel with plate. ? I am just learning, and ask questions.😳😳
@davross_au
@davross_au 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah .... The bezel wire that I am using has a step in it... which becomes the seat for the bottom of the stone ..... You can use a few ways of dealimng with the void beetween the base of the stone to the top of the dome...... thr Navajo indians use / or used sawdust .... some people use epoxy resin / setters cement (some think this is a controversial approach). Keep on learning and keep asking Questions ... :)
