I actually think the first mistake was hiring Graham Potter rather than a established high level manger and I blame that on all the pundits saying he is a wonderful up and coming manager but quickly failed to make the grade (I must admit I thought he could work). When Frank came in as care taker he was shocked on how unfit the players which is why we performed badly. We also had 11 injuries with many of the injured key players , which added to the disaster. The final error was selling so many good players and buying in many inexperienced players and many that are not good enough. We are paying the price for these bad decisions. I do agree they should have asked Marina and Petr to stay on for the rest of the season and help guide them in their first season. Not sure Bruce Buck what have been of any value. Not a Pochettino admirer but they should have probably got him instead of Potter and I suspect we would be in a much better state.

I mean, 3 of the defenders left on free transfers because the club couldn't offer them new contracts due to the sanctions, the time had come for Kante, Giroud and Kovacic to move on and majority the rest (Ziyech, Pulisic etc. never really did it in a Chelsea shirt, so you're kind of misrepresenting what actually happened. But, that said, only recruiting raw, largely inexperienced prospects isn't great strategy at all

And Boehly sacked most of the staff at Chelsea... the medical staff (which is crazy), ... even the flippin' grounds keepers (wtf). He hasn't a clue what he's doing. Frankly it doesn't matter. Clearlake Financial will be selling Chelsea in 10 years as the global market for football continues to make teams more and more profitable. The Glazers bought Man U for like 700 mil pounds, now they can sell it for billions. What will 2030 bring?
@BSMAG87
@BSMAG87 6 ай бұрын
They're definitely making enough mistakes on their own but some context lacking here namely, the exceptional circumstances such as the sanctions that lead to the first transfer splurge (losing Rudiger, Alonso and Christensen on frees meant they were in desperate need of recruiting new defenders, and selling clubs exploited that) and the huge ongoing 2-year injury crisis that has made integrating all these new players even more challenging
@ahmedthebassa
@ahmedthebassa 6 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you've said apart from the part that the "sanctions" led to us losing Rudiger, and Christiansen. Its down to POOR planning from as Souness says "football knowledge" at the club. Tuchel was brought in with Cech and Marina running everything. Remember, during the entirety of that season, we kept hearing that Andreas and Toni were close to signing a new deals, but their agents were clearly shopping them around. Those talks should of began a year earlier. Sadly, the man they brought in previously, a Mr. Frank Lampard want them both out, he preferred Kurt Zouma to them. Its a problem we've had previously. You gotta have the coach, directors and owners aligned. We went out for youth in 2012, then we hire Jose, and he gets rid all of most of the youth in Salah, Lukaku and KDB, but only kept Eden Hazard. Under Tuchel, we once again did the same, we brought in a coach that only got the job because of our transfer ban, had to use youth, in Lamps, but then a couple years later, Tommy T walks in, wins a UCL, but then wants a 28yo 100m Lukaku, to fuel the spend we sell Guehi, Livramento, Tammy, etc. TT PAID 15m + Marcos Alonso for Aubameyang. Alonso was valued at 10m, so we terminated his contract to allow him to move to Barca without them having to pay any Tax. Every other player we signed either played amazing against us or was overly hyped up. It was all down to TT in the first window. He was definitely terrible to work with Tuchel. When asked if he would be part of the interview process to get the technical director, he said he didnt want to do that. When asked if he enjoyed having more control over transfers, we said he couldnt wait til the window was over, as he didnt like talking and convincing players to join. Which explains why Lukaku fell out with him, he clearly wasnt the one who convinced him to rejoin, it was Marina and Cech, with a tower of cash. Imagine, you give the manager power, power that all managers in the modern game would kill for, but he then says that he 'misses' Cech and Marina.

It amazes me how some of these well-paid people in the media genuinely appear to know less than fans. Marina was Abramovich's employee and was always going to leave the club with him. The previous board all then left of their own accord once the new owners came in. Granted, most of the transfers so far have been very poor, but the old regime left of their own accord, so you can't really throw that one at the club.

Exactly, yes he shouldve pleaded with them to stay but buck, cech and marina were all jumping ship as soon as the take over happened, not much boehly could do about it. We can't compare it to Newcastle as the transition of purchases was very poor and not needed (forced by the government). Of course its gonna be rocky at first but with time the club will go back to its status of a European regular club.

big hole in Graham's argument is simple: the people running chelsea before Boehly were running the club into the ground. 12 of the senior squad all had the contracts expiring in 2023 and the players they were bringing in weren't up to much. they literally sold the bulk of chelsea's centre backs right before Boehly arrived. the rot started in 2017 and the new ownership are having to turn around a much worse situation than most people realise. also Boehly assembled a footballing structure beneath him a few months into the job, something Chelsea hadn't had for 6 years. so the 'people around him' are all 'football people' and not Todd Boehly or American

They appointed themselves as Sporting Directors - instead of hiring a Sporting director et al. Who's that foolish to walk into a foreign sport and appoint themselves as Directors? They were being played by agents like Mendes to everyone else. They also were foolish enough to go into foreign markets themselves. Boehly said in an interview that they were learning how all the markets were different and it takes time to learn those markets - so why the heck didn't they hire people that work in those foreign markets, that know those foreign markets, to actually work for Chelsea in those markets instead of learning on the job and having their trousers pulled down? Sacking Tuchel because he didn't want to get involved with recruitment or be micro-managed and now telling Pochettino he doesn't want him involved in recruitment and to focus on coaching. Simon just had a howler of a debate. He keeps repeating the slander from ONE SIDE which is Boehly as to why he fired Tuchel. Boehly has given multiple different excuses as to why he wanted rid of Tuchel and Simon just repeats them without the wisdom to know there's two sides to every story. Todd first said he wanted Ronaldo and Tuchel didn't want him. Kept refusing. Then Tuchel stopped Boehly and a crowd they were bringing into the dressing room. Or Tuchel wasn't responding to his messages or Tuchel didn't want to work on the recruitment side. Now it's some mystery slander that Simon continues to repeat. Souness conducted himself very well here. Simon saying it's fact Tuchel spent 300 million is silly. Todd had plans to sack him since the summer and only waited because he didn't want the backlash. Why would he buy Tuchel targets for a manager he's doing to axe? He wasn't. Tuchel got Sterling but the rest of the picks Tuchel didn't want. Tuchel wanted Nathan Ake and de Ligt. They gave him Kulibalay and Fofana. Souness was correct in what anyone with half a brain would have sat back, hired professionals to work for him and assess the situation. Boehly, Eghbali decided to burn money like the Joker from Batman.
