It is absolutely nothing like what Italy did or England did. English football got rich by selling broadcast rights, people want to watch it, eyeballs = money. The Saudi league makes no money, sells no broadcast rights, and despite all their buying this year, there's still nobody interested in watching it.

Does a Premier League club buying a player from the Turkish, Brazilian, or Norwegian league not ‘Destroy the ecosystem’? Don’t throw your toys out of your pram just because there may come a time when The Premier League isn’t the A-side or the biggest bully in the playground anymore. Get a grip Simon. The thing with Europe though is their clubs are sustainable. They aim to make money. That's the issue. The Saudi league buying players isn't the same as a pl club buying a player from the Brazilian league. A premier League is restricted by what it can spend. They won't offer 250milliom for a player plus 250million in wages over a 2year period because that's ridiculous. That's the biggest issue. Not what they're doing but how they're doing it. I mean Jordan Henderson is on 700k a week. He's not good enough to play at Liverpool any more yet is nearly earning twice the wage of the pl highest paid player who is a triple winner

Exactly. It's the natural evolution of the football landscape. They have money to burn and want to create a great league. The old division 1 couldn't compete with serie a back in the 80s and early 90s. La liga had it's time in the early 00s with galacticos and the prem has only been the dominate league since the late 00s. It took a decade or more for the Premier league to attract the very best. I think Neymar is going to be the one they wish they would have kept in Europe. Neymar further gives Saudi Arabia legitimacy, and soon players in Europe are going to think they’re underpaid. They’ll see these Saudi teams stacked with younger and younger elite players and a bigger European exodus is going to happen. Some of the top talent is going to think it’s maybe not so bad there when some of the best talents are there. Give it 2 years, and let these guys see this money and growing competitive teams in Saudi. Europe is already panicking a little bit. i think so too, the West is losing alot of influence and money every day this war in Ukraine continues. On top of playing games with Russia and pushing them, the West started an economic war against Russia and now both are hurting from it. Just one example: Russia now sells it resources for a discount to some friendly countries (China, India, Saudi etc.) while we in Western Europe have to pay ridiculous money for energy from other countries. Saudi's already made atleast $200 billion from the debacle and their economy grew nearly 9% last year, so yeah.. paying 1-2 billion for football is small business for them. Especially Europe is really in decline but even the rest of the West have many issues.

Simon I usually agree with a lot of what you say but there's much ignorance in your statements here. 1. Saudi league has 18 teams and they're establishing a football league model to have more divisions 2. As with anything in life, regulation and governance comes with time and development of the league. You can set certain parameters from the offset but it's down to AFC (Asian Football Federation) to apply rules such as FFP in Asia. 3. The EPL have literally been doing the same to most european leagues since the mid 2000s. Now similarly, other leagues will say EPL is ruining football but conversely we would say "No, it's your FA and league who are not keeping up with what we are doing with the EPL". I'm no supporter of these ludicrous transfers but to point fingers at Saudi when we literally have been doing this for last 20 years in EPL is a bit hypocritical.

People are only interested in entertainment and will switch on to whatever place has the best players and coaches. As soon as we have Pep and Klopp going there the switch is on. The Saudi league don’t need the champions league if it’s a champions league in itself. It will be built on the same model like the NBA or the suggested Superleague. @@rootsoriginal415 True but if I recall nearly 30 years ago hardly anybody watched the NFL yet here we are and pretty much whoever is “with it” supports some NFL team. How did it happen they watch their heroes on you tube chat about their teams. The massive advertisement drive by bringing the NFL to Wembley got so many as well. Remember these guys have got some of the biggest stars like Ronaldo and Neymar playing there. Soon the pull will be the top coaches like Klopp and Guadiola to coach those superstars. Then interest will build in watching the highlights on you tube then the whole game and after that … the TV licensing and with that money. Talking about the lesser teams. Let’s not forget that this is a country with no scruples . They don’t have issues with a club being owned by a dictator or a Russian oligarch like Abramovich . Those lesser teams can easily be bought and have as much cash as the state owned. For the players. I remember a time when other nations would make fun of us for being long ball specialists. The Saudi League is a freak show where people will watch it for Neymar's team v Ronaldo's team. However they will never have the generational loyalty that United, Liverpool, Madrid amd Barca have to the club, as opposed to the players in the shirt. Fact is, if United and Liverpool were relegated and playing against each other in the Championship, fans would still be glued to it, no matter who's playing for them.

@@duran9664 You're missing the point completely. The Saudi League is nothing without it's superstars and it would take 20 to 30 to build up any loyal fan base. The big European clubs have a generational and sometimes family loyalty that goes back hundreds of years. People watch United-Liverpool and El Classico because of the teams, while the players are just a secondary bonus.

We have generational loyalty in Saudi, clubs age range from 60 years old to 95, around 3 clubs older than 70, and two eldest are 87 and 95 years old, all have generational fans that hate the rival team 😅. Saudi league is nicknamed mini prem by other Arabs duo to the fact there's many competitive clubs and you never know who will win the league, that was long before Ronaldo came here...

There is too much history and emotional attachment from fans towards their own football clubs in the uk. So it doesn’t matter if most of the top English or Overseas superstars want to go and play in the Saudi League. The crowds will still go to each match and cheer their teams on, no matter which players are on the match. In team sports, historic clubs are more valuable than shelf life players.

Dont forget, its in the last decade when Barcelona vs Real Madrid was the biggest game in football, above any premier league fixture due to Messi and Ronaldo. If the top players are playing in Saudi, people (especially young kids) will be attracted to that. I was out in Birmingham last week and the saw a bunch of kids with Al Nassr shirts on. TV deals are not the only source of content now, most people stream digitally now or see highlights through social media (which drives in big numbers and money these days)

Exactly. The next generation don't watch motd on a sat or sun... they stream, use smartphones or tablets and use a lot of social media. It's a different landscape at that point. It becomes ever more global. I've seen quite a few Al Nassr shirts around at home or on holiday. I’m so sick of these false promises whilst obscene money gets given to those already over wealthy! Not just Sport that’s broken, the morality of the worlds rich is destroyed beyond repair.

Saudi Arabia are changing their main revenue stream from oil to sustainability, sport and tourism. There is enough short videos/documentaries on here about their vision for the future. It is not rocket science. Oil is/will be on the decline and the Saudi's want to stay rich. They've identified that climate change is a huge problem and plan to be one step ahead in terms of being able to provide sustainable energy to the Western World. We certainly talk a lot, but simply do not do enough and they know there will be a demand for clean energy. The same goes for tourism and sport, which both bring in a vast amount of money. Saudi are envious of Dubai's growing level of tourist and plan to create their own vacation buzz. The Middle East in general love their sports especially football/soccer and see it as the perfect way to generate wealth whilst enjoying it. Do I agree with some of their laws?! Definitely not. But, I admire their determination in keeping their country a wealth and prosperous place to live, which can be more than said about our Country and others in Europe.

The simple fact that there is no historical prestige (Champions league) and heritage of football (Real, Bayern, Man u, Milan) in Saudi will make this “best league in the world” project’s due date extend forever. When the Prem flaunted cash like that European football stood as a marker of competitiveness of the investment. This is more like a wealthy retirement league, yes 433 and other media platforms will post more about about the league but it definitely won’t be turning most people’s heads that quickly from the higher stake game in the west.
