This is a truly beautiful program, with three of the 20th century composers I am most fond of, largely because of the disturbing, sincere nature of their musical expression. Bartók's music was difficult for me to appreciate when I first heard it at concerts in the 1980s (Berg's was much easier) but over time it is one of my staples. I saw Solti conducting his Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta. Shostakovich directly entered my veins right from the beginning and I've attended performances with Rostropovich or Rozhdestvensky on the podium. I was exposed to Lutoslawski at the concert hall and even saw him conducting a program of works of his own in Madrid, in 1990 or 91. Listening to programs like this by Bernstein or Rattle is truly enlightening. Thanks for posting these musical journeys.
