The Ronnie Rig has become the most popular Carp Fishing Rig that exists in modern day Carp Fishing. It’s easy and simple to tie so suits beginners and experts alike but also it catches carp plain and simple! I see a lot of pictures on social media of peoples attempts at Ronnie Rigs and whilst these will probably work, they can always be improved. Follow my 5 common mistakes and how to fix them and hopefully you can catch more carp with Ronnie Rigs!

Hi bud. To make better use a large korda kicker instead of shrink tube. That way when you need to change the hook you can just crush the barb and take everything off without having to tie a new boom section. Also saves you money on shrink tube because if you crush the barb when changing the hook the kicker and the bead doesn't become damaged when you take it off.

Hi Simon...another great video...............Another mistake i commonly see is people make up his rig and put the slight curve in the shrink tube, as you have explained. then they attach the Boom section and store it on a rig board with the rig pulled tight. When you come to use the rig the curve in the shrink tube is pulled straight!!! i always make the hook section of the rig up, and always add the boom i require on the bank. I just cover the point of the hook with a small piece of foam andIi have loads of these hooks sections made up in a pot i carry in my tackle box

I only use flexible material for the boom section if I’m fishing over a very uneven bottom as it won’t reset if it gets moved by feeding fish or bird life- I prefer a stiff material to reset when using a Ronnie. If you don’t feather it or fish to a clip it could lie badly - great info for new carp anglers👍

Interesting stuff! I've just bought some ready tied rigs to start off and then build my own later... those rigs have stiff fluorocarbon hooklinks.. the only difference compared to yours is the blob of putty in the middle of the hooklink, do you think it would need it that on a stiff fluorocarbon hooklink??

How would u use this with an inline rig in a pva bag.. ive caught fish with a ronnie rig (inline pva bag)but if what u say about the distance between the laed an the rig is true, then i might be doing it wrong..
@SimonDewCarpFishing
@SimonDewCarpFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate I wouldn't normally recommend using a pop up with a PVA bag to be honest. It obviously works for you but it's much better to use a wafter or bottom bait. One of the main reasons being the possibility of foul hooking the carp in the face as it will be feeding on the bottom on the contents of your bag and the pop up will be above.

I’m not convinced by the hook bead position. I’ve been trying the ronnie for a number of sessions now and I’ve never had so many beeps and no takes on any other rig! Today when I got home to test the failed rig I noticed that the particular pop up I used wasn’t buoyant enough to lift the hook to an almost vertical position (with the hook bead opposite barb as adviced) and concluded that with the hook then being positioned horizontal, it was much easier to eject. Moving the bead around gave the pop up far more leverage to stand the hook up properly, and I cannot see how that position leaves more chance of blow out than the horizontal. I mean how on earth can it? The only problem I see with a hook being vertical is that it may alarm the fish earlier on the suck in stage and praps cause an earlier blow back than if it had glided in easier on a more horizontal position. However being horizontal also helps the carp to blow it out without the prick touching the lip. So it’s catch 22 really. Maybe something in between is ideal, so the positioning of the bead would depend entirely on the level of buoyancy from the pop up.
@SimonDewCarpFishing
@SimonDewCarpFishing 2 жыл бұрын
The solution is to use super buoyant pop ups mate. If yours aren't holding the hook up they aren't buoyant enough 👌
@250ty
@250ty 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but another mistake is to push the pop up too far onto the swivel, if your bait is out there for some time, it can swell, press against the ring on the hook and stop the swivel from rotating. It may or may not make a difference, but everything you can put in your favour improves your chances!
