After posting a feature of the day where I discussed our projector, I received a comment asking does it really work when you’re underway? This seemed like a great opportunity to show how it works and also go into more detail on our entertainment system.
There is one part I neglected to cover.
Our 16” chartplotter is routed to a HDMI switch box behind the Nav Station. A regular HDMI input port located in the Nav Station is also routed to that HDMI switch box. The output of that HDMI switch box is routed to the projector through the ceiling to its second HDMI input. I replaced the physical toggle switch on the HDMI switch box with a small stainless steel toggle switch attached on a cable, which is mounted cleanly next to HDMI input.
With this setup, we can display our Helm Station chartplotter on the projector, or we can connect a laptop or any other HDMI device, and connect it to the input port and flip the switch to show it instead.
Components
Overhead laser projector - Optoma ZH506e
Stereo unit - Fusion Apollo RA770
Speakers, cockpit - Fusion XS-F65x
Speakers, salon - Fusion SM-F65x
Media server - Synology DS220

Cool setup! Not overly complicated, yet covers all the basis. Nav station looks neat - how about an overview of that?

Wow....outstanding. Thx for the follow up & with such intriguing results. I'd love to hear about the mount, but, tbh, you should hold back a little about deets & patent this asap.. OANTV in partnership with Starlink ( cue pic w/Elon ...).... Seriously, though, apps like livestream from air or sub drones could be really useful for navigation/safety/ repair, not to mention self-SAR . With cell service, you could do that now, but on a virtually weightless space-saver big screen ?! Speaking of weight, this projector vs an equivalent flatscreen on a lift, I wonder ?. ....totally geeking out...ha... Now I want 8K for shorter throw & integration with the nav. system/MFDs.That would be some serious nautical mancave tech right there...lol...Charter guests would go bananas to see all the gizmo screens large-scale & from a comfy spot, wouldn't they ? I know I would. Nice service edge over your competition. Better than having to dress up as a pirate on a theme night to amuse client kids ( one of those friend-of-mine deals, but true). PS did a quick search on the weight thing. That Optoma is 7.5kg gross/5.5kg net, presumably the mount adds 2 keys. (16.5lbs/12.12lbs, for the metrically-challenged). Not sure of the screen size there, but the roller looks chunky. Similar 60" weigh in at about 10lbs. So we're talking 30lbs-ish. 60" 4K tvs are more than 10lbs heavier & that's not including the lift mount mechanism.

Thanks Richard. The mount is aluminum; custom designed and powder-coated by Vision. Can't imagine it weighs even 1 kg, and yes, screen is probably about 4kg, so overall less mass than a similar flatscreen, plus more stable. As to the MFD integration, already done. I forgot to include that in the video, but added a description of it in the comments; please check that out. Basically a HDMI switch with a tiny toggle switch I added to an HDMI input port plate. Toggle up -> MFD cable goes to the Projector, toggle down -> Input port from computer goes to the Projector. I thought about short throw, but that eliminates the ability to do the outside screen by projecting through the opening. We did one movie night in Knysna with the Boat Builder, James Turner, and his family and all 7 of us had a great view!
