My shop:
I just bought a CD player. It is made in Japan and uses 100VAC. In today's video I will make a 220VAC to 110VAC converter for my CD player.

does it works like a voltage divider? that I can reduce the capacitance and resistance of the second junction to get lower voltage? also, how do you measure the capacitance and resistance required for the CD player wattage?

ps: you don't need to speak; just hold red/black in hand & then reverse, then give that rocking hand motion that designates equivalence. Bit more advanced as thumbs-up, but if youre going to do silent films, enlarge your sign vocab.... (pretty fresh comments for finding the exact simple solution i needed for my problem !=)

Good thing is that circuit is simple. Bad thing is that if the capacitor is short circuited the equipment connected will be damaged.

The voltage drop across the capacitor is 110VAC. Capacitor withstand voltage is 630V.

what if you want to ground the equipment? i have a preamp that is 110v on a 220v circuit, i have a transformer, but it has a 50hz hum noise, do you know how can i ground it? I dont want to wire it to the 220v ground

I connected the capacitor with 2 resistors in parallel. when you unplug . The capacitor will discharge through the resistor.

Simple Technic , good conversion of 230V AC to 110V AC, but please mention maximum current and wattage , so that we came to know useful for how many requirements.

Для малой мощности пойдёт, но если что-то большее подключать, то не пойдёт.

@@kraid1988 ну по таким примерным прикидкам, если сделать схему как в видио, то холостой реактивный ток будет 0,7А, и подключить нагрузку можно до 10Вт, при этом напряжение под нагрузкой должно проседать не более 10%. соответственно если кратно увеличивать ёмкость конденсаторов, то для 100Вт нагрузки и 10% уже ток холостого реактивного тока будет около 7А. В общем такую схему лучше не использовать, а если использовать то только если очень надо, только в одном устройстве в квартире (или частном доме), и на мощность до 15Вт.

икс цэ - ёмкостное сопротивление равно 2*пи*f*C, где f - частота в Герцах, С - ёмкость в микрофаррадах, для 10 микрофаррад и в сети 50Гц составит 163Ом, для более точных расчётов надо считать через комплексные числа.

@@boris9189how about connecting both outputs of the divider to the bridge rectifiers and then connect DC together to get half the voltage but in DC and then solder it just behind the rectifier bridge of the 120v device? Would that make it safe for higher current?

Is it normal for capacitor to heat up? Im afraid it will melt, that is why i unplug it from my 220v source. And i notice too that at 1st it was 120v then after a while it became 170v while continue heating up. Can u enlighten me pls

Capacitors and resistors alone did not work because I tried it, I have to add voltage control capacitor in parallel with the circuit before it work. I used it for my 110 v soldering iron. I tried to the same circuit for my GE electric range, because I believe oven section uses 110 v for the control board but the cooker plate use 220v
