I love this system!!!!! No more knots you can’t easily & quickly get undone!!!!! Makes adjustments & tensioning super simple!!!! Worth the added weight in my opinion!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗👍👍

I've been using this exact method to hang my Hennessy Expedition since about 2010 or so. One thing people need to know is that the lines will loosen and let your hammock slide down during the night with this method. To eliminate this tendency, I tie two half hitches right below the rings after I get the length adjusted where I want it.
@TexasScout6 жыл бұрын
I haven't found this to be true, mine stays tight all night. BTW: I weigh 245lbs. I use a Hennessy XL Jungle Asym Zip.
@aquabomber4 жыл бұрын
I also use this exact method and during the night, my butt hits the ground even with half hitches. So I modded my Hennessy hammock with loop straps.
@patrickbuick54594 жыл бұрын
I did that loop through so many times thinking of different things I had to do differently to get it to hold. I finally realized what worked when I got it to work today after watching a few videos to see if I was missing anything.. I go through both rings. I then come back over the initial loop, through between the rings and down through the loop formed by the rope instead of straight out. I haven't slid down or tied extra knots, but I have only used it for 5 nights straight with no adjustment so far. That is about to change, as I set it up in my bedroom to replace my bed!

instead of a carabiner and 2 rings you can use 2 carabiners for the same job. its a standard system used to belay the second climber
@JonXuereb5 жыл бұрын
and then you arent tri-loading your carabiner which greatly reduces its strength
@ProdigiousReturn4 жыл бұрын
Could you kindly please post a link for that method? I don't quite understand how that would work.
@LutHeal4 жыл бұрын
@@ProdigiousReturn Instead of putting rings on the carabiner, just double up on the carabiners (so two carabiners used on the tree strap). Then use the carabiners as you would the rings.

Great tip. Seems amazing it doesn't pull through when the weight is applied. Thanks for sharing.
@squirrelbait760110 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I love that trick. I got an ENO a few years back and have always just used the carabiners directly on the straps, but, it then becomes a hassle if the trees aren't the perfect distance apart. I typically tie a knot in the straps and connect the carabiner to the knot. I like this method a lot more.

fantastic video, thanks for sharing. im having 1 problem tho, i need to go around the rings 2 times and then in the middle, if i just go around 1.5 times it dosnt hold at all. Wich leads to the "pinch" between the 2 rings are too tight and im struggling to loosen the hammock. Note i am using just a tad thinner rings. (Hennessey expedition asym version with rope that comes with it.

this is the best explanation on hammock rap rings that i have found, thanks for sharing.
@timp8711 Жыл бұрын
This technique is also known as an "Alpine Clutch". It can also be done with 2 carabiners. Note that when loaded it can be difficult to release, but for a hammock (which should be unweighted when untying) that should be no problem. I personally use a tied off Italian hitch, but can see this being quick and easy too, plus an extra chance to drip moisture off the rings!
@teroyjenkins308 жыл бұрын
make sure you don't tighten the hammock too tight. you will fight trying to get the cordage released. The same problem as whoopie slings. A far easier setup than whoopie slings though. REI carries these descender rings for about 4 bucks a piece. you can try a farm and home store for cheaper versions but heavier.

You could buy the rapel rings for $5.00 each x 4 for each hammock = $20.00, or do what I did. I found the same type of rings in my hardware store for .79 cents each. x 4 = $3.16 They are thinner and not rated for 5000 lbs., but I'm 240 lbs and they work for me.
@MrRtkwe8 жыл бұрын
Be careful with lower rating rings. If you hang your hammock close to horizontal your weight gets multiplied many times in the cord tension. eg: If your cords are 5 degrees from the ground your 240 lbs puts 1400 lbs of tension on the lines.

Great rig! Very well explained only advice double the line. The line looks a little thin. If by any carless mistake your rig one side fails (12' up with gear 325 lbs) the now single rope will have to support you, as you shimmie around, is near the weight limit.

I've been using 1" straps with rappel rings on my hammock and the straps always seem to slip, no matter what I do. It's a slow, gradual slip so I may go to sleep 6" off the ground but my morning, my butt is dragging. I'm debating going to cinch buckles but after watching your video, I might try swapping out the 1" straps for some 1/4" spectra cord.
@TheMochan5558 жыл бұрын
That's probably not slipping. It's probably poor quality webbing straps that stretch as the night goes on. If you use good quality webbing that won't stretch, you'll be hanging the same height each time.

+jessica Adorno they're just the standard straps that come with the Hennessey Hammock. I would probably suggest looking at Python straps or Atlas straps. Those allow a little more adjustability.

The stock straps don't fit around a lot of trees. Pick up the Atlas straps to save yourself some possible headaches.

Hmmmmm i understand your method BUT why not just use a cinch buckle?????? After all this is essentially the same concept, except you have 1 ring and there a thin piece of metal that cinches onto the webbing when its under load... Its alot easier, you carry less pieces, they weigh less(depending on the kind that you buy) there just as effective as this, and there come in different styles...
