I have a six month old baby boy and whenever he is fussy and can't calm down or even to fall asleep I play this for him, he calms down right away and nods off he loves this song! I see myself as being a simple man. I don't have much so the things that I do have I am very thankful for. I cherish what friends I have. I am thankful for the people that I have in my life. It is the little things in life that give me much joy and it may not be any more than just a walk on a sunny day, a smile from a neighbor, the laughter of a child, the touch of a woman's hand, listening to the birds chirping while laying in a hammock, or just being able to relax in my recliner. The little things in life mean the most to me. I've never had much money in fact I have actually been homeless more than once and it gave me a totally different outlook on life. I've learned to be happy without money though I do work. I don't care if I ever get rich. The little things are what I live for. Thank God for peaceful country roads and the sound of the wind in the Willow trees. The little things are all I need. I love this band and this song. Thank you for your awesome music throughout the years. And may God bless you my brothers.

My son found this song... and it saved his life!!!! After 8 suicide attempts in 10 years.... he said to me " Mom, come i need you to hear this" it has been 5 years and he is now a dad and doing well. Thank you Lynyrd for saving my son!!!!

This song upsets tf out of me. Got a call from my old buddy while I was at work one day, when I picked up I couldn’t understand what he was saying cause he was choked up, so I told him to repeat what he said. At first it sounded like he said his dad was gone and something happened to his dad. I rushed out of work went to his house, come to find out our friend shot himself in his basement, this song was playing as I was on my way to his house. Will never forget the look on his face when I got there, all the emotions that went thru my head, I just remember being numb and not knowing what to say. Everybody rushed to his house including his brother, we were all devastated. Seeing our friend come out in a body bag is the most terrible feeling in the world, wouldn’t wish it on anybody. I love this song but that memory keeps me from listening to it sometimes. RIP Pat, you’re still missed brother.

I'm depressed and suicidal, have been for nearly 10 years (in therapy for almost the same time) I often cry on lonely nights wishing for an end, but this song brings a different kind of tear. Its tears for my mother who loves me and wishes for me to be happy in whatever way possible. It reminds me of her suffering seeing me like this. Whenever I feel close to the edge this song reminds me of my mother and that It would destory her, she doesn't deserve it, wish I could be a better son. I love you mom, I'm sorry for hurting you so much, you deserve better.

several things are inaccurate in the statement you just made. 1. in an emergency gold is useless all you need is food, water, and shelter. 2. Those types of items are exceedingly cheap in 99% of America no one is forcing you to live in New York or the Silicon Valley were water costs ten grand. 3. the song doesn't tell you to give up on your dreams or to be homeless, it just tells you to set real goals and be happy were you are. 4. when you go after piles of gold in the manner in witch your statement implies you will 9/10 times die with less than a penny to your name because you saw gold and demanded it would be yours while ignoring reality.

It is a weird feeling having somone in your life who is so important and means so much to you and your kids , To have that suddenly snatched away is hard to process . it has been under 2 years for me and I will tell you I can not grasp it ,I am having a real hard time with this . I swear he wrote this song about my dad. He retried from special forces to be a carpenter. We've never been super close, but I've always admired him for being the kind of person he is. He'll refuse payment to fix an old lady's house for free, and I've watched him stop the car on the side of the highway to run across traffic to pull the car door off a car that has just crashed so he could get the people out before paramedics arrived. And I've tried so hard to watch and learn to be like him.

My mom explained this to me in her raising of me all the way to her passing at 79... She was a wonderful mother and wife to my father who is still with us today ... Blessed to have both a caring upbringing and adulthood .. Love u Mom & Dad!

Feel u brother lost my father when I was 3 barely remember him but u have memories and pictures it's hard to sleep at night thinking of him and how it could have been anyone but God chose my father guess he has a plan for everyone and ours is what we make it out to be so make it good we only have 1 chance

My son 13 is in a boys home. I hear this song several times a day because I swear it wasn't written just for him. I can't sing worth a crap but this song I can belt out with passion in my voice. Just hope one day he lives this song. Calm my Son Just be a Simple Kid for now and a Simple Man later. Ain't raising a kid anyways. I'm raising a Man one day. He's in the boys home because I pushed for placement. He was going to hurt himself or someone or several someone's... I love my son enuf to be like Nope we ain't doing this shit. You ain't taking the life of Drugs Sex Crime and Rock N' Roll. Wish my Mother would have done the same for me cus I wouldn't have battled a 12 year drug addiction If she had. Blessed Be💫

This song! This song that I’ve listened to for most of my life, it makes me think of my mom. It will be seven years in 2022 since she’s been gone. My mom raised me from my 8th year and she did a fabulous job. She taught me right from wrong. She taught me to treat people right and to be a decent person. I’ve done that all of my life and I’ve done it all of my life, for my mom. Thank you mom for making me become the “Simple Man” that I am.

My son and his family moved to Oregon over a year ago. This has been the longest my son and I have gone without seeing each other. He just sent me a video of him and his beautiful family driving around enjoy the day with this song on the background. He texted....love this song, reminds me of you. This was played at my grandfather's funeral unexpectedly. The church said they were going to play "Down By The River" and they did but after that they played this. He told me he wanted his funeral to be happy and he thought this song would capture happiness. It did. The whole church was singing along and the energy was just positive.
