서던 락의 대표주자로 분류되던 Lynyrd Skynyrd (레너드 스키너드)의 1973년 데뷔 앨범에 수록된 'Simple man'과 'Free bird'를 포스팅한다. 이 두 곡은 'Sweet home Alabama'와 함께 가장 많이 알려진 명곡이다. 밴드의 이름은 머리 긴 학생들만을 골라 체벌한 그들의 고등학교 체육교사 이름을 따 왔다고 한다. 한참 전성기를 달리던 1977년 전용기 추락 사고로 리더인 로니 반젠트와 멤버 2명이 사망하게 되어 밴드는 해체하게 된다. 이후 남은 멤버가 그룹을 재결성하게 되지만 과거의 명성을 되찾지는 못한다.
"Simple Man"은 Lynyrd Skynyrd의 데뷔 앨범인 Skin-nérd의 마지막 곡이다.
이 노래는 리너드 스카이너드의 가장 인기 있는 노래 중 하나이다.이 노래가 디지털 다운로드가 가능한 이후, 이 곡은 "스위트 홈 앨라배마"와 "프리 버드"에 이어 리너드 스카이너드의 세 번째 베스트셀러 디지털 곡이 되었다.이 음반은 2013년 11월 현재 미국에서 1,333,000매가 팔렸다.

This was my mother son dance at his wedding. We both cried. We sang it all the time. He knows all the words and we both sang it. Such an emotional moment. Words to live by.

Well.. As a mixed black n white man... This song resonates with me hardcore... As my white side was this. Hell's Angels. N my black side was Black gorilla. N this song makes me see it ALL. Beautiful song. No matter the race. Just simple... No pun intended. Good music is good music. N love the message.. there's ya comment.

@L Cotton if nobody cared about race- then over 20 years ago black folks would have been able to vote - go to school with us white people- drink fromt he same water fountains, sit on a bus .. at the front if they chose... fast forward to today- and there are still many differences- at the same time - music is music but dont get the shit twisted

I saw next to last concert in st.pete Florida .. I still remember everything about it.... My tears flow.. allways... They were true. Southern rock.. and now the times go tic toc...for rock.

When their plane went down in October of ‘77, it was a shock, and another day that music died, all because of a plane that was not properly fueled. I was 16 at the time, and there were very few bands that generated such a pure Southern Rock that was loved by so many, and sung for the common man.

I was 15 when I heard the news on the radio about the crash. The plane was an omen, sell your soul if you’re going to stay on top. This is one of the FEW groups who told those who serve the underworld to F@$K off, and they paid the ultimate price. See you wonderful people in heaven where I’m sure you’re jamming today.

More than just not properly fueled that plane had issues previous to the crash but as the burn bright due young attitudes they had Ronnie chose to fly on which led to the events that took place
