Great vid, only thing missing is info on what size fuse to use. Common sense would say that this is a very small electrical load so a 3 amp fuse would be the safest option to use in the plug.

Even easier to connect the lamp (bulb) with a 2 core + earth wire straight to a plug head with a 3 AMP fuse and then plug into a nearby socket.

One point fuse in the plug top must be the correct amps as in 3 amps.

Some outlet boxes have switches that have to be manually wired to the two socket terminals. With this type of outlet box, could you connect the live wire going to the light switch directly to one of the outlet box switch terminals?

Simple and useful video, thanks. I had already done this exactly, except I had mistakenly joined the LIVE wires with the terminal block. Reasoning that it didn't matter if it was live OR neutral in the terminal block, because the circuit was still opened/closed by the switch. Can anyone please explain why my way was not OK?

Hi i have an external light that has a plug on it to turn it on and off. I want to put a switch on it. The light is plastic. Ive noticed that the wire connection has no earth wire in it, is this a problem? Do i need to rewire the the whole light to earth it? Or could i just use earthed cable from plug to switch and then leave existing cable (live and neutral) from switch to light? Or just add a switch and it will be fine?

I'm just trying to work out how to wire in two LED spots in this way. I am going to connect the spots in a circuit with one wire going to the switch. The cable I've bought has no earth. It's a metal switch. Is it necessary to have an earth? The cable that will go from the light switch to the plug also has just the live and neutral wires. Is it ok to do it all with no earths, especially considering I'm using a metal switch and a metal box?

is this the same if it was a single plug socket instead of the lightbulb. i have a plug for the washing machine behind it and the switch for that plug is above the counter to switch it on. i am trying to change the switch and it has the same back as your switch with the Comm and L1 and L2 would i wire it the same as you did in the video
